2024-03-29: Hex 20A (Underground)

Warm, humid air flows from a settlement built among the natural pillars of a massive cavern.

Notable Feature: Settlement (Rockdown)

In the center of the island buried deep within the earth is the village of Rockdown. Rockdown is incredibly defensible because of its location underground, but space is at a premium and the village is quite cluttered with excavation projects. The current ruler, Ekku (adult male dwarf) maintains power through his knowledge of how the underground waters rise and fall underground. Crude pumps designed by Ekku's ancestors are maintained by Ekku's family. The talk of the town is of a recent caravan of 6 scouts who recently left for the surface to look for changes in the path and strength of the aboveground rivers.

Getting to Rockdown

Only its dwarven inhabitants know the quick way in and out of the settlement; everyone else must take the long way. The rim of the crater surrounding the island is crisscrossed with tunnels through the rock, and those who travel along the slow, dangerous slopes may find an opening leading to the village. Roll 1d6 on each rim hex entered. On a natural 1, a cave or tunnel is found. The tunnel leads directly to the settlement underneath Hex 20. Unlike traveling on the rim hexes, travel within the tunnels proceeds at the usual rates as regular overland travel.
