“You're just as special as everyone else in this family.”
FULL NAME: Julieta Madrigal FACE CLAIM: Angie Cepeda PRONOUNS: She/Her BIRTHDAY: July 23, 1971 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
Julieta Matilde Madrigal might have been an artist if life hadn’t had other plans. She was born the eldest of triplets, and despite being only minutes older, she took her role as eldest very seriously. Or maybe it was the levels of accountability that she was held to. As a child, Julieta considered herself crafty in the artistic sense. She enjoyed adding artful touches to her meals, even as far back as when she first engaged in her sorcery. Though, truth be told, she could also be a bit crafty in the cunning sense when conspiring with her siblings. Still, it was harder for Julieta to get away with it. Before Isabela, there was an original senorita perfecta. And it was Julieta.
From her early years, Julieta was aware that her magic could be beautiful. How could healing hurt ever be considered bad? However, that’s not what the world around her thought. Magic, where she was from in Colombia, was associated with darkness. Julieta clung to her light and held close to her parents, sister, and brother. She clung tight to her mother and sister and brother when the time came that they had to flee their home and start anew. Truth be told, it was hard for Julieta to remember the night they left. Even the subsequent weeks had turned fuzzy over time.
With their new life in Avalor, Julieta threw herself into her usefulness. Even at the age of fifteen, she threw herself into her purpose as a healer. Contributing to her community was how she felt like she belonged. It’s hard for children to move away from home even in the best circumstances. Like she had clung to her family and her magic in Colombia, Julieta clung to her community and healer-identity in Avalor.
Such actions eventually led her to spending her summer breaks during university traveling and aiding in relief efforts. Everything from earthquakes to hurricanes to high tides. Julieta wanted to be a part of all of it, if not going herself, helping organize resources. Keeping herself busy was just a part of being Julieta Madrigal.
It’s during one of these trips that Julieta met Agustín. Different from her in so many ways, and yet a complement to herself in many more. Julieta and Agustín’s brief romance was just that to Julieta at first. Brief. However, he surprised her by transferring universities, arriving right at her doorstep.
A marriage, three children, and a relocation across the ocean later, Julieta still marvels at the life she’s found herself in. She marvels, also, at the life she’s left behind. Julieta tries her best to take each day at a time. While she’s horribly prone to looking back, Julieta is just as hopeful to look forward. Who knows what’s next? Certainly not her if she doesn’t reach out for it.
✓ Nurturing, family-oriented, can heal you with a meal ;)
✖  Self-sacrificing, overworked, worrisome

"Worth a shot.”
FULL NAME: Camilo Castillo Madrigal BASED ON: Camilo (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: N/A PRONOUNS: Any (but primarily he/they) BIRTHDAY:  December 28, 1998 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
A shawl that his grandmother left draped over a chair in the living room.
This is the first thing that Camilo takes. They don’t mean to, but later, when his grandmother asks him if he has seen it, he lies.
It happens quickly after that: his brother’s comb, their sister’s ribbon, a few pound coins from his father’s wallet, their mother’s necklace. Lip gloss from Isabela’s vanity. Too many arepas to count. Some work documents from their tio. One of Mirabel’s crocheting needles.
Casita makes a little place for Camilo to keep it all, under the stage in their room, but he can feel the house’s disapproval.
The stealing is nothing serious. It’s just a joke. Just a prank. Like everything else they do. He tells himself he’ll give it back one day, but it is better for him to keep it all in one place, right? They may have to leave again. (That’s what they tell themself when they feel guilty.)
It starts to grow.
Swiping a hair clip that a customer leaves on the counter in line in front of him at the supermarket. A shot glass from the Court. A bag of crisps from the market. A book from under the Acheron’s noses. There is a little thrill to it. It’s harmless, really. Nothing to worry about. So much has been taken from them, so why shouldn’t they take just a little something from other people? (That’s what they tell themself when they steal from other people.)
Besides, they help people all the time. Need someone tall? They can become someone who is over six feet. Someone small? Camilo can become a little fairy. Calm an upset kid? Camilo’s there as their favourite person. They were always helping--and they liked helping! That is their family’s whole thing. Everyone knows the Amazing Madrigals are so helpful and wonderful.
But sometimes, they want to do something for themself. Is that really so bad?

“Sometimes family weirdos just get a bad rap.”
FULL NAME: Mirabel Fernanda Valera Madrigal BASED ON: Mirabel Madrigal (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Alejandra Cardona/Alejandra du Sol PRONOUNS: She/her BIRTHDAY: October 6, 2000 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
The first time Mirabel asked her abuela what Colombia was like, she told her about the butterflies.
Beautiful and abundant, every color of the rainbow, and standing in the middle of them was like a kaleidoscope in motion. And they weren’t just beautiful, Abuela would add. They were a crucial piece of the puzzle, keeping flowers blooming as they carried pollen from one to the next. Just like butterflies, Abuela said, everyone in the family was given a beautiful gift that would help the community that had grown up around them here in Avalor. Tía Pepa’s storms kept the fields watered, her mother Julieta’s magical meals could heal illness and injury, and… well, she never was sure what Bruno’s gift was for.
One by one, Mirabel watched her sisters get their gifts. Isabela could cheer anybody up with her flowers, and Luísa’s superhuman strength made chores that should take hours and dozens of men simple and fast. On her fifth birthday, as Mirabel approached the door of her family’s magical home  that would reveal her gift, she vowed that she would never, ever let her gift go to waste. If only…
Later, when Mirabel asked her father, tearfully, what the point of a Madrigal without a gift was, he told her about the butterflies, pointing to the one she had clumsily tried to stitch onto her dress.
They didn’t bloom like the flowers, but, rather, hopped from one to the next, supporting. As a Mundus marrying into an old sorcery family, he had found that was just as important as being able to do magic, and the same was true of Tío Félix. And so Mirabel tried her best to be like a butterfly, lucky to be a part of such a bright and brilliant garden. She brought Luísa water while she helped the town with projects. She bit back every single snarky comment that came to mind about oh-so-perfect Isabela. She kept an eye on Cousin Antonio and turned off the TV when it looked like one of Tía Pepa’s novelas was going to cause a serious storm.
When Mirabel had to flee Avalor with the rest of her family, she thought about the butterflies, and how they left their homes when the frost set in, unsure of whether they would ever see it again.
Swynlake was too cold, too strange, too full of strange dreams and unfamiliar magic, but Mirabel did her best to put on a brave face. For Abuela, and for everyone. Even if she felt like the only one falling apart, barely keeping up in school and struggling to make friends and wishing desperately she had some kind of magical solution to all of this. But there wasn’t, and the best Mirabel could do was pretend she was fine, so fine that she would be completely fine traveling an hour away for university.
But she wasn’t fine, and now she’s back in town, and for the first time, her flight path feels aimless. More than ever, she wants to prove herself worthy of the name Madrigal– but what is a Madrigal without a gift?
✓ Optimistic, supportive, friendly

“I was thinking of my daughter!”
FULL NAME: Agustín Ramón Valera Sepúlveda BASED ON: Agustin (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Andrés Cepeda PRONOUNS: He/Him BIRTHDAY: October 6th, 1974 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Agustín Valera is not an exceptional man, but he doesn’t think that’s a bad thing. If you ask him, being exceptional is more trouble than it’s worth.
He watched his father vacillate between the sheer joy of doing what he loves for a living and the shame of heading a family that lived hand-to-mouth. vacillate between the sheer joy of doing what he loves for a living and the shame of heading a family that lived hand-to-mouth.
He saw how his older brother prized his hard-earned academic success above all else because it would be his one shot to rise above his station.
He sees the way his wife puts herself last by default, as if she’s never once considered doing anything else.
He sees his oldest daughter smile and nod and go with just what his mother-in-law expects of her.
He sees his middle daughter carry every burden around her like it’s her own, desperate to be useful.
As he watches his youngest daughter yearn to be like the rest of her mother’s family, he wonders when she’ll learn what he did a long time ago.
~*~*~*~*
Agustín Valera maybe, possibly, could’ve been exceptional were it not for watching his parents struggle to provide for him and his four siblings, including his chronically ill older sister.
Like his career musician father, Agustín had a love for music at an early age. Like his teacher mother, Agustín also had a love for people.
His twin pet interests of music and people (which grew into a love for global cultures, the field of anthropology, history) were encouraged by his father but his mother pushed him toward science and math, making him take ever-more-difficult classes in the subjects throughout compulsory schooling but the boy never did take to STEM.
Instead of graduating compulsory education on the fast track to being an engineering genius, a globetrotting polyglot, or a legendary musician, he was an above-average hobby musician with the STEM grades for Avalor’s top universities but none of the knowledge, and the potential to master English, maybe, for a grand total of three languages.
Agustín knew that no matter what he studied at university, he’d disappoint his mother. He had two choices and neither was great: A. Major in engineering or pre-med and eventually dropout; B. Major in something he enjoyed, but something semi-employable, and hope he’d at least not be broke. If he was already locked in to being the family disappointment compared to Lawyer Luciano, Saint Graciela, Charismatic Feliciana,  Charismatic Feliciana, and Baby Danilo, he may as well soften the blow by making sure not to be a dropout.
✓  Humanitarian, resourceful, warm ✖  Guilt-ridden, diffident, considers himself last

“Sorry, mi vida, go on.”
FULL NAME: Felix Castillo BASED ON: Felix (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Laz Alonso PRONOUNS: He/Him BIRTHDAY: March 10, 1971 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
Wanting a big family is par for the course when you’re the first and only child of two Cuban immigrants, who left their home for work, but also to get a little peace and quiet. When your house is too big and you so small, it’s natural to go out looking for hustle and bustle. Luckily for Félix, his neighbours were used to children running in and out – the doors stayed open, the laughter echoed from one house to the next. He didn’t pick favourites, because everyone was so welcoming – except that he did, because the Madrigal house was a special house, and the Madrigal children seemed to be special children. His father teased him over dinner about playing favourites even amongst the Madrigals themselves, and he told him he liked them all the same, actually.
For a while, it seemed like he’d never see them again. Driven from his home, bouncing around from one place to the next. But his mamá believed in fate. In destiny. He did, too, even when his papá rolled his eyes. Which was why, when he saw the Madrigals in this new and unfamiliar place, he thought it must be meant to be. And so he asked Pepe Madrigal out and, miraculously, she said yes. And when she broke up with him years later under a rain cloud of her own unwilling creation, he refused to give up. He wrote a letter every single day - some were true love letters, so sappy and filled with sentiment that a lesser man would be embarrassed to send them with their flowers pressed between the pages. Some were silly little things, talking about his day and how he wished she was in it, with doodles in the margins of the pages and silly drawings beneath his name at the end.
Whether it was persistence or fate, it worked. He offered her his abuela’s ring and she took it, and within years that passed in the blink of an eye, Félix Madrigal-Castillo got the big family he always wanted.
He quickly got used to batting away thunder clouds from above his wife’s head, and writing down what he was getting his daughter for her birthday so she can’t overhear. He got used to seeing his son parrot his face right back at him, though that one still catches him for a loop, sometimes. He never did get used to a house so full of energy and laughter and magic, though; he appreciates it every day, thanks whoever’s up there for giving it to him at long last. And when their home crumbled around them, and they were forced to pick up and move again, Félix lived in the knowledge that those things, the energy and the laughter and the magic, will follow wherever they go.

“I’m as tough as the crust of the earth is.”
FULL NAME: Luisa Valera Madrigal BASED ON: Luisa (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Maria Jimenez Pacifico PRONOUNS: She/her BIRTHDAY:  July 6th, 1997 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
The one thing Luisa has always wanted was to help people.
From the time she received her gift, she knew she could be of service to others and make their lives easier. The tasks that seemed insurmountable to a group of adults could easily be performed by the young Madrigal. All over Avalor, Luisa’s name would be on people’s lips, calling out for help and begging for a helping hand. She was always more than happy to oblige. When it came to her life in La Casita, Luisa was a protector and caretaker. No one would ever be bullied while she was around. While Isabela and Dolores made their way to university, Luisa stayed at home and watched after the youngsters, making sure they stayed out of trouble. Abuela would never have to lift a finger if she could help it.
But in the end, you can’t help everyone. Despite everything she did for the people around her, Avalor still fell and there was nothing she could do but run with the rest of her family. She couldn’t protect them. The faces of the friends and neighbors they left behind would seer into her memory, a warning of what could happen if she let her guard down for even a second.
She would never let it happen again. She didn’t allow herself time to grieve. When they settled into the small town of Swynlake, she picked up right where she left off, lending a hand to absolutely anyone who needed it. From simple construction to holding back entire forests, Luisa would always rise to the occasion to protect her family and the people of the town. While her siblings and cousins went on to have an education, careers, relationships–she forewent all of that in the service of others. She joined the VFD, Swynlake’s volunteer Magick task force, and continues to spend her days performing whatever chores are given to her, by whoever asks. And that’s–fine, really! Just because she doesn’t have a single moment for herself, has very few meaningful relationships, and is constantly under the ever-looming threat that her life could fall apart at any minute and she won’t be strong enough to stop it–it’s fine! Everything is fine.
 No pressure.

“I didn’t want to marry him! I was doing it for the family!”
FULL NAME: Ines Isabela Valera Madrigal  BASED ON: Isabela Madrigal (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Muriel Villera PRONOUNS: She/her BIRTHDAY: April 8, 1995 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
When Isabela was five years old, her tìo told her he had foreseen that she would have the life of her dreams…
This is probably not something you should tell a five year old.
As the first grandchild, she was doted on growing up. Told that she was beautiful and special and wonderful. And what child  would question such a thing? Of course, she was beautiful, special, and wonderful. Of course, she would have the life of her dreams.
Unless those dreams conflicted with the dreams of the family. With the dreams of her abuela.
When Isabela was five years old, a door appeared in La Casita with her name carved into it. She turned the handle and suddenly, flowers bloomed at her feet wherever she walked, her hair flowed in the wind, and as she grew she became beautiful and graceful. She had been granted a gift by the candle that protected her family, and it was clear what she would do with such gifts: help her family. Find a good husband, make sure they were all taken care of, for the rest of their lives. Have children, to carry on the candle’s power and her family’s name. Be perfect, so that her sisters and cousins didn’t have to be.
When Isabela was five years old, her tìo told her he had foreseen that her powers would grow.
But they haven’t. None of Bruno’s predictions for Isabela have come true. She has done everything she was told. Isabela has been perfect. Her whole life has been written out for her from the moment she was born and she has followed that path as best she could, despite a coup, despite moving halfway around the world, despite her sister’s every attempt to undermine her.
So why isn’t it working? Why does it feel like the life of her dreams that she was promised has always lied just out of her reach?

“My gift wasn’t helping the family, but I love my family, ya know?“
FULL NAME: Bruno Madrigal  BASED ON: Bruno (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Fonseca   PRONOUNS: He/Him BIRTHDAY: July 23, 1971 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
“You must use your powers to keep our family mijo. Your sisters and I are counting on you.” That was one of Bruno’s first memories. His mother told him that his family needed him. Even from a young age the potency and potential of Bruno’s magic were seen as useful and dangerous. It started out harmless at first. Guessing birthday presents right. Spoiling movies that just came out.  or telling his sisters he knew when their first tooth would fall out Bruno had a knack for seeing what was to come.  What started out as harmless and intriguing became overwhelming. Soon Buno couldn’t drown the thoughts out. He couldn’t tell apart paranoid thoughts from visions to come. He spent most of early childhood holding his sister’s hands begging them to help him understand what was real while his mother pushed him to use his gift more and more demanding he get a grasp on his potential while Bruno just wanted to feel normal.  The night they fled Colombia he still remembered how hurt his mother was asking why he didn’t see this coming.     Bruno’s sisters were his rock. Every good memory he ever had was with them. Whether it was sitting under a storm cloud with Pepa and making her laugh till the stormy clouds went away. Or pulling Julieta away from her work and reminding her to live a little his family was everything to him.  But no matter how hard he tried he seemed to always fall short of his sisters. While they were making a name for themselves showing off their powers and aiding people. Bruno became a harbinger of doom. People would come begging for his insight and all he could see in their future was disaster. It got so bad that he just stopped using his powers when he gave advice and they’d still blame him for their misfortune. They would misunderstand him ot just blame him. He would point out that someone’s fish looked sick and the second it died it was his fault.  Any misfortune was his doing and he had no defense. Still barely having a grasp on his precognition. Soon his mother forced him into the background refusing to let him go out and speak to people and ruin the reputation his sisters had earned   This didn’t mean his life was miserable. His family grew. Soon he had brothers to bond with and nieces and nephews to spoil. He didn’t care what strangers thought he didn’t care if he’d ended up a good sorcerer like his sisters. He had his family. That’s all he needed and he was going to do anything to keep them safe. He understand his powers and he’d keep them from danger.   When it was time for Mirable to receive her gift his mother pushed him once again to use his powers to see what it might be. How she might shape and change the family. By now he handle a decent handle on his magic but he still mostly saw ruin. He was beginning to wonder if his precognition was really a curse. That if he tried to look into the future he would seal someone’s fate and doom them. He insisted they should just wait but the second he saw his little niece talk about what her gift might be had to try for her. That night he saw the worst thing possible. His niece gets rejected. That night he begged the universe to change what he saw. ||He tired again and again all night seeing the same vision again and again until he was bleeding from his eyes.|| No matter what he did that’s what he saw. When his mother and sisters cornered him after the ceremony demanding if he knew anything he confessed. Heartbroken his mother said he failed his family for the last time and sent him into exile.   Broken, defeated, Bruno accepted his punishment. Living in a small shack outside of town.  Becoming a local boogeyman. The man who doomed your fate if you laid eyes on him. He rarely went out using his isolation to focus on himself and his craft becoming quite the talented sorcerer. Determined to be useful.  He watched his family from afar. Only comes back once to his mother after seeing a horrible vision of a coup. Begging her to move the family somewhere safe she tossed him out not wanting the family to see him.         Thankfully they survived the coup. So did he. Not knowing what else to do he followed his family. Watching them grow from afar as he tried to make some semblance of life for himself as a guidance counselor/ social worker. Helping his fellow misplaced souls find purpose. Still tormented by his precognitive abilities he struggles with separating reality from fiction.

“You telling this story, or am I?”
FULL NAME: Josefina Pepa Carolina Madrigal-Castillo BASED ON: Pepa Madrigal (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Sofia Vergara  PRONOUNS: She/her BIRTHDAY: July 23 1971 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information || CW: Death, blood ||
How To Make a Rainbow, a guide by Pepa Madrigal, storm sorceress supreme
A rainbow is one of the first weather features that an aspiring storm sorceress learns. It is also something that a storm sorceress will spend her life perfecting. Easy to learn, impossible to master. You will need equal parts rain and sunlight — and the type of rain and the type of sunlight will have an effect on the overall effect of the rainbow.
But that is the easy part. The hardest part is the colors — every rainbow is made up of seven colors, and you can certainly obtain the colors from any source that you want, but in all your years, you’ve found that the best colors come from very specific places.
Red: To this day, you have not seen a red as vibrant as that of your father’s blood staining the waters of Caño Cristales. You do not say this out loud. Red is love and passion — but red is anger and violence and a stain that never washes away.
Orange: Using the orange of a setting sun is a risky move when it comes to rainbows, which already need sunlight as one of their ingredients. But if the setting sun comes right before a party, if the setting sun washes everything in a glow, as the scents of your sister’s cooking waft through the air, if the setting sun is both a beginning and an ending, then, well, maybe it is worth the risk.
Yellow: Smiles and laughs! Growing up, they were everywhere and you plucked them from the air like flowers. And the more people that came into your house, the more laughs and smiles started to fly. You don’t like to pick favorites among your family — especially among your children — but each laugh is yellow and warm and you like to keep them on a little shelf to remind you of good times. In the darkness, they glow softly.
Green: It is hard to find a good green in England, where the weather is grey and cold and dreary. Sometimes, though, the first buds of spring remind you that the cold never lasts forever. (The best green, though, was from the tree that grew by your brother’s window. You have not seen that brother for years. You try not to think about him. You certainly do not talk about him).
Blue: Tears of joy, you find, work the best for the blue that you seek. But in a pinch, tears of sorrow will do.
Indigo: Ah, elusive indigo! The best indigo you’ve ever seen is the twilight shadows of the palm trees on the path of your childhood home. You have not been back there for decades. If you close your eyes, sometimes, you can conjure up that perfect shade. Other times, just the faint smell of orchids.
Violet: You may think violet is hard to find, but once you start looking, you cannot stop seeing it. Your niece creates beautiful purple flowers. Your sister embraces her husband and that hug is tinged with a warm violet. Your son and daughter whisper in the courtyard and their words snake around them, a light lilac. And your mother, when she looks at the portrait of your father, she reaches a hand to touch it and where she has touched is a soft lavender.
(Maybe it is not red that is love, but violet.)
Take the colors and add them in reverse order — violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and that deep red. A sprinkle of rain (your mood will determine how much) and a splash of sun (your happiness will determine how much), and turn your wand clockwise three times — or five, or maybe seven — you’ve tried it different ways and you are not sure which works better.
It is a process, creating the perfect rainbow. Something beautiful, something that only comes after rain.
They say a storm sorceress spends her whole life chasing the perfect one.

FULL NAME: Dolores Adalia Castillo Madrigal BASED ON: Dolores (Encanto) FACE CLAIM: Mairaly Rodriguez PRONOUNS: She/her BIRTHDAY: June 25, 1995 CURRENT STATUS: Taken
Character Information
They say Lightning doesn’t strike twice, for the Madrigals, it did and that’s not just because Dolores’ Mama controlled the weather. Her parents saw their home collapse twice, they had to run twice, they feared for their safety twice and Dolores sometimes wonders if that means the same will happen to her and her family. Unless they are careful,  Dolores hears that they are worried about it too.
Yet they attempt to make a home, built from the ground up, Abuela at the helm making sure that everyone is safe and helping out. Leading the charge and Dolores doesn’t know what they would have done without her guidance. And Dolores is determined to help make this a home. Even if she’s scared of any pop like a firework, even if she is scared at every little chaos the town is thrown into and runs home as soon as she can to be safe within her walls. Even if she worries her younger cousins and siblings would lose a piece of their culture being in the sleepy English town. This was their home and Dolores would make it a home no matter what.
It took her awhile to be okay with leaving the house for long periods of time, it took her awhile before she was willing to dampen her sounds aids wanting to be able to hear her family incase someone needed her (She heard a lot of things she wished she hadn’t heard in those months). It took awhile before Dolores put down her own roots and started focusing on herself but eventually she did. Dolores would get her degree, she would help out her family and she would protect her younger brothers while they explored school and everything they wanted to do.
If there was a silver lining to this situation, Dolores was going to do her best to listen for it.
