Biography:

Cherri Evelyn Hawthorne was born on September 18th, 1984 in Memphis, Tennessee to parents Michael and Lisa Hawthorne. In 1988, at age 4 her family moved to Valencia, Spain due to her father's work. Michael Hawthorne worked for Umbrella Europe under Team 6, along with researcher Luis Serra Navarro. Her mother worked as a nurse at the local hospital.

In 1994, when Hawthorne was 10 years old, she and her mother moved back to the USA, to Raccoon City, Colorado, while her father stayed in Spain. The reason for Raccoon specifically was Umbrella’s influence over the area. At the time she attended Raccoon Elementary School, and befriended Emma Kendo, acting as an older sister figure and best friend to her. Her mother found work as a nurse in the Spencer Memorial Hospital. Her father visited them for only a week or so at a time every few months, at the time working on the Nemesis Project.

On September 25th, when Raccoon Elementary School shut down due to the T-virus outbreak, she became isolated in her own home with her father. Lisa didn't return home from work that night, informing Michael through the phone that she is stuck in the hospital, tending to infected patients, both of them deciding to keep Cherri in the dark about it just in case.

Hawthorne stayed mostly in her bedroom with the blinds down as instructed by her father, occasionally leaving to play video games, until the events of September 29th, documented in the Raccoon City Tapes.

Post-Raccoon, she was sent to a military boarding school under close supervision of the government, her survival of the massacre being seen as extraordinary and worth looking into.

She was coerced into joining the same government program as Leon S. Kennedy at age 18 in 2002. It is mentioned that they vaguely knew each other for the two years before Ashley’s kidnapping, but Leon didn't recognize her from Raccoon City.

On November 2nd, 2004 Hawthorne was sent together with Kennedy to a remote village in Spain to investigate president Graham's daughter’s disappearance, due to both of them being the only ones not being investigated for cooperation with the kidnappers. Leon, because of his close relationship with the president and Cherri, because she was still under close supervision. The rest of the mission is (will be) documented in a Resident Evil 4 (Remake) spin-off fanfiction :3

Les Mis and Disco Elysium feel like opposites in a lot of ways even though they tackle a lot of the same subjects and are both, ultimately, when you get down to it, Hopeful Despite All The Pain

I suppose Disco Elysium has to dig a lot deeper for that hope, and that the hope feels slighter -- Les Mis is idealistic, optimistic about the future, the potential of Progress. The revolutionaries are Good People, they are The Ideals of Progress and The People and The Republic made flesh. They do what is necessary, but they despair at it. Les Mis has a lot of Utopian Socialism in its fabric.

Disco Elysium is sarcastic and bleak and mean-spirited and full of unpleasant people. No-one’s a hero. Not Harry, who can be a fascist at worst and a self-aggrandising tankie at best. Not Kim, who is a Moralist, a Centrist, status quo is the best we can hope for, “every school of thought and government has failed in this city but I love it nonetheless”, not the union, which may protect their people but is steeped with corruption, not the one remnant of the revolution you come across, who represents the grief of its failure, not the hope of its ideals. Disco Elysium is the Communism of a Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union -- the failures of the Soviet Union, the trauma of the Soviet Union, the grief for an idealistic belief in Communism.

Disco Elysium is pessimistic Communism to Hugo’s Utopian Socialism, I suppose. Disco Elysium’s world and story was created by proles -- maybe even lumpen proles by some definitions -- while Les Mis was a bourgeois man observing the proletariat.

They are stories about similar things split in time, tone and class. And I love them both

if anything kim is more resolute than nilsen because he never contemplates nihilism when what he believes in is rejected by the people. he goes to martinaise with a gun that shoots one bullet at a time, knowing he could get splattered on the pavement by the union. the fear is there, always, that he will become prey, but at the end of the day he throws himself into an impossible standoff against a better-armed enemy, against the forces of capital. kim may not have Read Theory or joined the Revolution TM yet but he is brave—and that courage is so sorely needed

royce and brandie tandy were thrilled upon the birth of ezekiel thomas tandy and all the happiness he brought into the world. growing up, there was never a day that he doubted his parents love for him. they were attentive, kind, and never failed to make him feel as if he could anything.

he'd never thought much of the little things until at the age of ten, his parents sat him and his sister down and broke the most exciting news that he'd ever heard. he was going to have a little brother and in that moment, zeke swore he'd protect the youngest tandy no matter what.

of course, that's a heavy commitment to make at such a young age, but he would have sworn that nothing could have changed his mind on that. at first, he was as in awe of thaddeus as everyone else was. it was just another thing that he and his sister bonded over, but they welcomed the newest addition with open arms.

his self-made promise came with consequences that he could never expected. he knew what it was like to have their parents staring down at them, always talking about how one day, their children would do something big with their lives. it was a lot of pressure to take, and in hopes of thadd never having to shoulder that, zeke took it on for himself.

as he got older, he noticed that things were different for him. while he'd been forced to finish out every hobby he'd ever tried, his younger brother wasn't held to the same standard. even at the age of twenty, when all he wanted was to drop out of the boxing course he'd signed up for through school, his father refused. some would have argued that at the age of twenty, he had the right to do whatever the hell he wanted, but zeke was adamant on making his father proud, even if that meant learning to throw a punch he'd never land.

with a little guidance from his father, he knew there was only one route to take. if he wanted to be the perfect son his parents had put so much time and energy into, then he needed follow a plan. he put everything into law school, volunteered his time around the city in every government building that would take him, and when it came time to fly on his own, he pulled every string he could.

upon starting his law career, he was fortunate enough to be hired on as an assistant at the king county prosecutor's office. it wasn't his dream, but it was a foot in the door. he was able to dive into law and has since stepped into another role. currently, he is one of many prosecutors employed by the king county prosecutor's office.

the only thing that comes before work is family, but everything else comes second or doesn't hold a candle to his profession.

004. potential connections

neighbors. zeke is a sudden valley resident and has lived there for about five years or so. he's known for hosting cookouts when the weather allows and has quite the friendly face. could be interested if someone owned the house next door and got to see the lesser seen sides of himself. the pacing through his home that can be seen through various open-curtain windows in the home, or someone who's had the luxury, or displeasure of hearing him taking a call from his backyard that got heated. could be fun!!

best friend. preferably, i'd like this connection to be someone's known for quite a long time. bonus points if they're close enough that this connection also has some kind of relationship with thadd. they'd know more about his family dynamic than he'd like, but that's the pro, or the con, of them being friends for as long as they've been.

fellow law associate(s). whether they're employed by the king county prosecutor's office or represent the opposite side of the courtroom, this could make for a good connection. bonus points if they've got a history of cases being tried against one another. which, is likely considering he's becoming the go-to name on the prosecuting side.

coffee companion. could be any muse that he has met, or will meet at a coffee shop. perhaps their orders were switched, or they swiped the wrong cup from the counter, but it leads to them seeing one another during their coffee breaks and can be built upon from there.

high school or college ex. someone who knew zeke before he was hired on at the king county office. how long this relationship lasted is completely up for discussion, but know that he ended things because he wasn't on the same page as her. he cared for her deeply, but he just didn't love her in the way that she claimed to love him. this was a bad breakup because rather than actually explain how he felt, he dropped the line 'we should see other people' and left it at that. could make for a fun connection, but would definitely require a lot of plotting.

I remember damage. And escape. Then adrift in a stranger's galaxy for a long time. But I'm safe now. I found it again. My home.

Christine doesn’t really remember what the world was like before it ended.   She has vague some memories of her parents, of what hed bedroom looked like and of her dance class;   things that mattered to the young girl.   She wasn’t really old enough to pay attention to anything else, why should she?    At the time, her biggest responsibility was learning the choreography for her end of school recital every year, it was easy, or she remembers it was easy because the stakes changed so drastically after that.

When the first alarms rang out, her parents took her out of the city.   They thought they’d be able to ride it out in the country and come back when it finally blew over;   no one thought things would get this bad, or that the government would collapse before a cure was found.   They also didn’t think that they could get infected so easily:   three months after the world ended, she was alone, walking away from the cottage she called home after her parents failed to come back.

Colorful bows still pushed back blonde tendrils out of her face when she left.   By the time she was found by a group of musicians who had left the city together, she was covered in dirt and half-wild.    The harpist of the group and his wife, a former doctor, took her in.    As she had no interest in the group’s performances just yet, she usually sticked by Amelia, wherever she went, Christine wasn’t far behind.     It was where she picked up the nickname nurse, as the members of the group began to affectionately call her their little nurse.

Four years later, the musicians found, of all things, a theater group.   They merged, with the musicians providing music for the Shakespeare plays they were starting to put on.   They called themselves the Travelling Symphony.    It was at this moment that Christine began to take an interest in performing.   She had loved the stage as a child, loved dancing and dreamed of being a ballerina.    While the musicians felt they had a claim to her, and had been pushing a violin in her uninterested hands for years, she immediately jumped at the chance to join the theatre productions.  

The symphony is still a wandering group.   While some people have strayed off, moved into settlements where they believe they are safer, the Symphony has continued to travel, bringing back life to the places they perform.

Christine was trained by Amelia to become a doctor, but the childhood nickname stuck   —   she is still their little nurse.

i primarily based this verse around the universe of station eleven, as i absolutely love that book/show and think it has such an interesting post-apocalyptic vibe, but this can be adapted to other post apocalyptic settings.

My thoughts on Eksil

Soeharto and his cronies is fucking evil but that's already obvious lol

Soviet failed Indonesian exiles. These were fellow comrades but all they did was breach their trust even further. Exiling farther away, spying on them, then tried to REPAIR RELATIONSHIP WITH SOEHARTO. It should not be like this.

I'm happy that this movie does not portray communists "neutrally" like so many Indonesian-produced media do. In fact, communism fucks actually. PKI fucks. People loved PKI. I'm tired of Indonesian media both-siding this issue (hoho soeharto is bad but pki is also bad!!111!). That's why I was skeptical at first for this movie and nearly missed the last screening.

I also hope that this will be many people's introduction towards communism in a positive light. Maybe this will be their radicalization point just like what Jakarta Method did to me.

At times I'm not sure if I love Indonesia anymore because it's a fascist hellhole right now. But this movie opened my eyes a bit. "Every school of thought and government has failed in this city, but I love it nonetheless. It belongs to me as much as it belongs to you.". These exiles still loved Indonesia despite what it did to them. Trying to return for 30 years. Breaks my heart.

Despite all that I think this movie had some pacing issue. I think it can be a little bit shorter! The Look of Silence despite having a long runtime felt so short while sometimes I feel like Eksil meanders a tiny bit! The narration was unnecessary imo. Still a must watch, great companion for The Look of Silence :) also Joshua was mentioned in this movie
