Loki surveilling the skyline of New York from the top of Stark Tower and clocking that his favorite paired set of buildings are gone. sad
#everyone wants thor and loki to have visited earth a bunch of times and obviously they wouldn't be too invested in earth politics#but i think the concept of much time passing between visits should be taken advantage of#like what if one of them missed seeing the statue of liberty on their past 3 visits and now that's 'suddenly' a famous historic landmark#Loki like wow I sure hope that restaurant in the Soviet Union is still around!#and Natasha's head whips around so fast like you mean Russia or one of the surrounding countries that used to be part of the USSR#Loki: uhm. well. what's the difference#Natasha: here is a map of the countries does this help#Loki: it does not help but thank you for trying#Thor: what do you mean Rome is gone???? Rome was HUGE?????#Tony: well it's been a few centuries since then Europe is very different now#Thor: (visibly distressed) so the the sweet effeminate men enjoy the streets no more??#Tony: ...I don't keep track of foreign border laws about that#Thor shows up after 3 years and there's a new president and he's very confused through the entire meeting#brodinsons being so detached from the political scene but being so used to realm politics they come to correct conclusions about things#even though the timeline and how long things stay the same on midgard still messes with them#Loki: at least Egypt is still around#Thor: China also#Brodinsons visiting New Zealand(Aotearoa)/Australia/various British mandate islands before the British formally showed up#returning 2 centuries later and 'the gene pool has altered drastically' 'must've been a war'#well it's either that or since Asgard seems spared of colorism they treat all humans as the same and don't notice. which might be worse#on the colonisation and liberation side of things

So with all the crazy Loki news, everyone is dipping their oar into the discussion of “what should be Loki miniseries be about?”
Consider this my dipping of the oar.
I would personally LOVE to see Loki on Midgard.
Aside from his brief visit to Thor in New Mexico, the invasion, and the NYC/Norway scene in Ragnarok, we haven’t really seen Loki interact with Earth. If it were set between Dark World and Ragnarok, perhaps it could be set up in a way where Loki drops off Odin at the retirement home, but then he keeps coming back to visit to talk to him. (”Hello, father. How are we doing today? Still a doddering old fool, I see? Well, my spell hasn’t changed you all that much, now has it?” *Loki sits across from Odin. The table between them is battered, some relic of the 1960s. A chess set sits on top, its pieces scattered. Loki notes with grim interest that both kings have been knocked over.* “You know, this ruling business...is. Well, it’s unpleasant. Especially when I have to undo half of your imperialistic, backwards edicts. *Insert flashback storyline where Loki has to travel somewhere to negotiate a deal and hijinks ensue.*) But then the thing is, Loki keeps coming back to visit. Keeps telling stories (he is the god of stories, after all). And some of these are funny (”A donut, father! It is an atrocity I did not think Midgard capable of!”), some are political, some are heartrending (”I...I traveled to Jotunheim last week, father. The destruction wrought by the Bifrost - why should I care about those monsters?” *and then we get a Very Special Episode of Jotun!Loki accepting himself which is the genesis of the “Little Baby Blue Icicle” in The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard, because let’s face it - Asgard was not all that well-disposed towards the Jotuns before and for Loki to announce his origins like that - he must have done some serious cultural outreach/education sessions for the general populace for them to not react by the time Ragnarok comes along.)
Basically, I want something where Loki makes his peace with Odin through these flashbacks, where Loki goes from “mwahahaha no, thank you” to “you had one job! just the one!” It would be fun way to show Loki’s emotional development, have him fight a bunch of bad guys and show what a BAMF he is, and also have that layer of Odin-angst (which, I admit, I’m kind of ripping off from Bojack Horseman becuase I think it’s really well-done there and the whole retirement home thing reminds me of season 4. Which makes me think, what would a Loki “Free Churro” episode sound like? *gets out writing notebook*)
I want to see Loki on the subway, I want to see him go back to Central Park and get harassed by a vendor, I want him to fight random evil, magic things in the city, I want him to scowl at donuts. (I want him to go back to the Sanctum and kick Strange’s ass.) I want him to kidnap Matt Damon.
I want, by the last episode, for Odin to know who Loki is, to have overcome the spell, but to not have said anything. For Odin to just listen to his son, to all the wonderful and terrible things he has done. And then Loki gets called back to Asgard and *cue Ragnarok*.
(Obviously this would be nigh impossible given that they would need Anthony Hopkins for much of this, but still. Pipedreams.)
OR YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I WANT?
A post-A4 Loki working with SHIELD and Phil Coulson. Becuase that is one of my favorite tropes/AUs and I might about die if we got it.
WHAT THEMES DO I WANT COVERED?
An exploration of Loki’s Jotun heritage
What happened on Sanctuary with Thanos?
More stories from kid!Loki and kid!Thor
BAMF Loki fighting with daggers and seidr (GIVE US ANOTHER DARK ELF-LIKE SCENE BECUASE HOT DAMN THAT WAS THE BEST)
Loki takes Manhattan (but not in world-conquerer mode, more like, should I really eat this dodgy hot dog? can I harass the curators at the Met over historical inaccuracies? would it be a crime to graffiti Stark Tower? why wont this cabbie stop talking?)
And from a practical point of view, it might make more sense like this as it would be cheaper to take Midgard as a location than make another Asgard (I know Marvel/The Mouse is throwing money at this venture, but I’m sure there are limits). Plus, I don’t see Thor being quite as large a part of this as Loki does deserve his own time in the sun. Who is he without Thor? Now that is an interesting question.

uhhhh I don’t even know, any art at all of any scene in any story would basically kill me? and does, when it happens, I’m always just thrilled.
but if I had to choose one...I might like something from “I have lived with shades, a shade” from inside Loki’s head. Maybe the scene in the garden, with Frigga, at the end - Steve and Wanda watching, something to convey the sort of dreamlike and disconnected feeling of the whole thing.
yeah, I think that would be cool.

Oooh, I like this one, because usually I try to refrain from reccing WIPs (most of the time) but there’s a whole bunch I’m reading (and one completed long fic I’m making my way through slowly).
Icarus by trinity_destler. Jane and Loki (and eventually Jane/Loki) fic - updates slowly but it’s juicy, character-work heavy and a delightful exploration of both Jane and Loki’s characters. An AU post-Thor, obviously.
they'll talk about us and discover how we kissed and killed each other by resident_longwinded_anon. I screamed about this one when the first chapter posted, but the second chapter just went up and I’m somehow screaming even louder?? A fic where Loki goes to Clint to ask him to kill him. The catch is that Loki can’t die. Everyone is miserable. It’s great.
Stuck on the Puzzle by thespectaclesofthor. This fic is taking me so long because it’s really dense - there’s a lot happening in terms of character and plot and really, really great porn. Cullen/Iron Bull, which is not a pairing I thought I would enjoy? But it’s really good. Really, really good.
On Shadow’s Edge by Morestel. This is a post-Avengers AU fic that I subscribed to ages ago, where Odin dies and Loki’s punishment shifts. Recently it started updating again and I’m really enjoying it.
until the stars rain down from the heavens by aurilly. A Loki/Bucky fic involving time travel, where Loki visits Earth as a kid and makes friends with Bucky, subsequently growing up with him.

Fuck, I’m supposed to choose? There are so goddamn many. And I don’t want to hurt feelings by leaving anyone off who should really be on it. I’m going to limit this to people I’m not actually friends with, because I feel like I talk about my writer friends and how great they are all the time, so I should branch out.
LadyCharity. Currently writing in Rogue One, which isn’t really one of my fandoms, but her MCU stuff is gold. Painful, painful gold.
Sholio. I read Sholio mostly in White Collar, and not so much now (though recently I ran into a Gamora and Nebula fic by them and really enjoyed it), but I still think about Shelter on a Foreign Shore, which remains one of my favorite fics of all time, and Worldwalking, which introduced me to the “people moving through various versions of their lives” trope.
aurilly. The ruler of the Loki/Bucky realm, and the person who got me into it in the first place. A+.
prozacpark. Writes great fic about mythological women, beautiful prose, just - wow.
Rynfinity. I love, love, love the Mouths of Babes/March of the Damned parallel series - it’s a harsh read (plenty of content warnings!) but probably my favorite modern day/human AU fic of all time, and one of my favorite renditions of Thor/Loki (that addresses a lot of their unhealthy issues in the context of them having a relationship without vilifying either one of them.)
