on yet another rewatch of hannibal. didnt notice how like, after will makes an attempt on hannibals life hannibal really does try to end the relationship. he is genuine when he tells jack he needs to step back, that he was fooled by will, that he cant trust him, he is genuine when he says to alana "there are many reasons why we should do this". he is genuinely trying to move on from will- he's impressed by wills efforts as much as he is hurt by them. he still has a fondness for will but he knows it's bad for him, almost killed him. you could even argue him severing animal meat at the dinner parties, kidnapping gideon and freeing miriam not only furthered suspicion away from him, but in turn furthered himself away from will's world. hes moving on. like he has all this newfound inspiration for his "hobbies" to work with from this chapter of his life. he was basically writing break up songs wrapping it up all n then will rocks up to his office with his hair combed one (1) time and he comes crawling back. it's so funny. he literally cannot stop himself from going back to his toxic ex. it makes me laugh but also from hannibals perspective, it also makes wills betrayal a lot sadder too. cause after will comes back he like sheds a lot of the superficial pageantry of season 1 with will- he stops trying to gaslight and manipulate him so directly. they're more equals than any other time in their relationship so far. he lets will know him. he lets will see him. it IS a rare gift. no wonder hannibal gets so messy in florence. I'd need to let my hair down too fjgjg
