You know I always thought the watch dogs would be a perfect setting for Desmond to take a step back from a assassin and just go around helping people, like Aiden with his vengeance for Lena, or/and causing chaos with dedsec in San Francisco
Since we already have an Aiden x Desmond idea where it looks like it’s shaping up to Aiden fucking Abstergo (and maybe even the Assassins) up for kidnapping Desmond, let’s make this one more on the side of Desmond trying his best not to be part of whatever mess DedSec is brewing in San Francisco and failing XD
It was meant to be a vacation of some sort.
The Brotherhood’s little ‘sorry we got you killed to save the world but, hey, at least you lived! Here! Have a little vacay while we try and find your team who went underground after they thought you died’ apology ‘gift’.
Why San Francisco?
Because apparently Abstergo hasn’t gotten their little grubby hands in it that much so Desmond would have a semi-normal life.
Free boarding. Enough weekly allowance to get by and even splurge on food once a week…
It was…
Okay.
But it can get a bit monotonous so he would sometimes take a walk, look around.
Maybe climb the tallest building and use his Eagle Vision to make sure there’s no reds nearby.
There were a lot of gangs around these parts apparently but they seemed… uninterested in Desmond so they didn’t ping as red.
Desmond supposed he could do San Francisco a solid and take care of these gangs but he was on vacation.
He was sure he was going to be roped into the latest POE-related bullshit after this so he’d rather be lazy for once.
He deserved it.
He fucking died.
But, of course, since his name was Desmond Miles and his main profession was ‘fate’s favorite chew toy’…
One sunny day while he was just ordering food from a foodtruck that makes really delicious chilis that made his stomach curse him hours later (worth it though), his phone vibrated.
His phone never gave any notification.
He wanted to groan.
It seemed it was time for his vacation to be over.
Only to blink when he took out his phone and saw that it wasn’t a message or email from the Assassin only called Bishop.
It was from an app that Erudito apparently added to the phone.
… alerting him that someone tried to hack his phone.
He looked around with his Eagle Vision.
… and saw a red phone.
He blinked once more and saw that the man holding the red phone was wearing a blue baseball cap and had glasses.
And he was staring straight back at Desmond.
He mouthed the words ‘Erudito?’ to Desmond and Desmond grimaced.
Great.
Some hacker now saw his face and thought he was part of Erudito.
He has no idea how to fucking hack.
So Desmond did the best thing he could do considering the circumstances.
He ran away.
And the damn hacker ran after him.

[Or a reincarnate carves her own path in a world she'd only known as a game.]
ACT ONE, CHAPTER ONE
!7'5 N07
-=-
If there was one thing Dani knew to be an absolute fact in this second life of hers, it was that her luck will always be the most stubborn bitch of them all.
For one, Dani was a literal old soul. Having died saving a life, the ultimate act of mercy, granted the then-Dani a second chance, a new life, a new (sort of) name attached to this new life she
found herself crammed inside like a meatsuit.
Bad analogy.
So, her luck wasn't exactly bad per se, given that whoever this Dani was...was a bonafide prodigy. Her mind ran like a machine, like a whirlwind of facts, ideas and equations. There was little in her noggin that wasn't useful in the waking world. The second-hand soul felt like she was on the precipice of being a Mary-sue, with how OP her new body/brain was.
Then again, there's always a limit to power, even if it's overpowered.
Danielle MacKay, in exchange for a brilliant mind and capable body, was stuck with the shittiest circumstances one could imagine.
For one, her new mother had died long before Dani's conscious was awake enough to remember, leaving poor little Dani a supposed orphan-
{'cause how fucking cliche was it that her dad wasn't around, what did he go out for a pack of smokes and never come back?}
-in the care of her 'uncle' David. For fuck's sake, the man was an honest-to-god pedophile if she'd ever castrated one.
{The man soon learned that tiny Dani loved her knives and despised him.}
There was little Dani could do, outside of packing up what little possessions she had (knives, knives, knives) and hitting the road.
In the Before, Dani recalled a TV episode about the territorial society of train hoppers ⁽¹⁾.
It wasn't a bad idea, she guessed, even if trains dredged up a memory of someone saying 'shuffler' a hundred times (what?) and made her want to squirm.
It was a little too easy to hitchhike onto a train car.
Another cliche was how freeing it was.
There was nothing out here that could stop her if she put her mind to it, a life on her terms.
And so Dani began her new life, truly, on the tracks.
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dani could recall the Reaper's face, their voice, the sensation of existing underneath the underneath, limbo in startling clarity. There wasn't much conversation between the two, given that Dani was a misplaced soul who'd earned the second chance she'd been given.

Well, rude .
Dani didn't even know she was placed in the Watch Dogs universe until she met Raymond Kenney. Yeah, she was just as surprised as he was, them meeting.
{He was still working on CtOs then.}
"That isn't gonna end well." yeah, she really shouldn't have said anything about the future events of the game, but she liked the guy. He was brazen, blunt and tried to do good by good people. He was good people. Dani wished he was her absent dad, 'cause then she could say that she could be good people too.
"Oh? What makes ya say that, Darlin'?" His southern accent made Dani smile, noting there was no judgment in his tone against her. He honestly wanted to know.
"Nothing good can come of complete control." It was this very moment that Dani knew she had hooked the legendary hacker. Bellweather, indeed.
Everything is connected . Wasn't that meant to say that coincidences don't exist? That pull one thread, you could eventually unravel the whole plot?
Well, if Dani now had T-bone wrapped around her finger and currently trying to sabotage his code for the bloody beast, who's to say that she couldn't change other events?
{Make things better, make them worse.}
The second-hand soul hadn't exactly been the idol of mercy and grace, good karma for saving a life notwithstanding, in her first go-around. In all honesty, Dani had been the epitome of neutral. No major political opinion, no real moral standing, no religion. What she did rely on was the Law of Karma, what goes around comes around.
{Put out into the world what you wish to receive.}
Sure, Dani had a few friends at the end of her life, but many had left due to that belief. She could not be swayed to put down her controller for a bible or a drink.
Watch Dogs had been one of her favorite game series, and having just finished her fourth playthrough of Legion, Dani was more than knowledgeable about the possible future. Theoretically, Dani could stop the resistance before it even has to begin.
But first, she has a (future) Vigilante to find.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tracking down Aiden Pearce was a chore. He wasn't tech savvy (yet) given he'd have a few more years before meeting Damien, but he'd learned enough from the underworld to blend into the crowd.
{For fuck's sake Dani, even as a script kiddie he's still a fixer- of course he'd stay on the DL.}
Ray, sweet blessed Ray , had adopted her the second she admitted to what she did to her 'uncle' and was soon in the system as Danielle MacKay, his neice. It was nice to have an uncle she didn't need to castrate (she made sure not to say that last part aloud), even if that uncle was almost completely unstable.
She now had to go to school and boy did Dani hate her life.
There wasn't much they could teach the girl, given that hello , she's already got it crammed in the empty spaces of her mind- clearly marked 'boring' for easy reference (and later deletion).
Boring, dull- that is until Zara tripped into her life.
If Dani was a machine trapped in flesh and bone, Zara was Dr. Frankenstein. The girl was a whiz with gadgets and gizmos, a true genius in contrast to Dani's stolen intellect. Where their friendship began is debatable, but Dani likes to believe that it began with a canary cry ⁽²⁾ ⁽³⁾.
There had been a veritable wealth of ideas, concepts, and sci-fi projects crammed into her brain, years' worth of pop culture steeped too far to ever scrub out completely. The contemplation of should she be recreating such (potentially) deadly gadgets and tools was lost among the speculation of could she. For as much as intelligence she possessed, Dani lacked the experience necessary to recreate such things.
That's what led to Dani spending hours upon hours filling up notebooks with what ideas she remembered.
She designed a suitable version of the Widow suit from the Marvel universe including the electric batons and widow bites. Paired with Sara Lance's signature sonic device, Dani had far too much fun imagining how badass she would become.
Zara created the first canary cry.
It was a hunk of metal in the pre-teen's hands, wires and whatnot supposedly able to deliver a subsonic cry like that of the Before. Not much to write home about. That is, until Zara turned it on.
They were crouched behind a concrete barrier, eying the aforementioned metal hunk. Zara was practically vibrating with anticipation, because to her this was an incredible idea that Dani pulled out of her ass.
{Ignorance is bliss.}
With a press of a button, the wretched sound of the subsonic cry nearly burst Dani's eardrums.
Frantic flailing and one pre-teen in a fetal position later, Zara hugged Dani and said, "Got anything else for me?"
And wasn't that just the sweetest thing?
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Years later, Dani and Zara were the dream team. Dani was the main strategist, her mind able to handle three different trains of thought once pumped full of adrenaline. Zara was the swiss army knife in comparison, with her gadgets and tools useful for many situations.
As for what they did?
Running ops for Dedsec, Fixer contracts (Dani was the only one to do these), and info gathering. Zara never really understood why Dani was so desperate to become infamous among the underworld, but she still went along with it.
Dani needed to have a reputation so she could join San Fran's Dedsec. Here, she was operating under the handle Jackal, but her contracts were rarely leaked to the usual sources. Even if they were, the Fixer or Hacker tags would be excluded. It would have to be something major to draw attention to the Jackal.
If this was in the Legion timeline, Dani would've immediately went after any of the major figures polluting the city-Mary Kelly first if only to try and save Angel.
This wasn't the Legion timeline though. That was decades in the future.
Dani and Zara were firmly in the pre-Watch_Dogs era, with Aiden and his family healthy and happy. The reincarnate kept careful watch over them, waiting for the storm to hit- could she save Lena? If she did, what would Aiden do? She doubted he would go so far in his vengeance, become the vigilante the city revered. Hell, she would have to step up in his place if that was the case.
{There's an idea.}
Dani, theoretically, could take down the mayor and Lucky Quinn with the knowledge of Before at her beck and call.
It would cement the Jackal's reputation as a vigilante, an ass kicker...an avenger.
Groaning at that last thought, Dani shuffled further into the janitor closet she'd hid in. She knew very well the consequences of becoming an avenger. Tony Stark made it look so simple. ⁽⁴⁾
What would she avenge anyway? Dani hadn't been old enough to remember her new mother and she'd already emasculated her 'uncle' for his sins. The only reason Dani could see herself going down that path was if something were to happen to Zara-
{No, no, Dani. Don't even think that.}
What could she do as a sixteen year old with a freaky brain and even freakier soul?

So I have an idea for a watch dogs x ac crossover in which its set post watch dogs but pre ac 1 where Desmond and aiden Pearce are in a relationship that is mostly long distance and in a surprise visit to Desmond’s place he found out he has been missing for a couple weeks so he starts searching and is able to find out that abstergo kidnapped him and is using him in some sort of animus project but that he was also to late to save him because he already escaped so he does what any self respecting hacktivist would do and releases everything into the web
We can do add this to this Aiden x Desmond fic idea we had before if you’d like?
Instead of Aiden seeing Desmond being kidnapped, he finds out Desmond is missing because he hasn’t been answering his calls and texts.
They’re on a long distance relationship since Damien recruited Aiden for this big job and he knew something was up. Desmond was just as paranoid as Aiden (he didn’t specify why but had dropped enough hints for Aiden to understand he’s hiding from his dad) so he leaves Daimen even after Daimen tells him that he can’t leave now, they were so close.
By the time he returns to Desmond’s apartment…
There was no clue left.
The only thing left was…
The beacon in Desmond’s phone that Aiden had thought had gone waywire.
Why else would it be pinging the Abstergo headquarters in Italy?
So he goes to Italy and hacked into Abstergo’s headquarters in Italy.
He doesn’t find Desmond because Desmond had already been taken by a woman named Lucy Stillman.
But he did find internal documents and recordings about the Animus Project and the Subjects…
He knew that Erudito had been looking for these.
The Golden Apple that can destroy Abstergo.
The proper procedure would be to share this with Erudito.
It was hacker etiquette to give other hackers a heads up when one has something that’s connected to their target.
But Aiden didn’t have the time for pleasantry.
So he releases everything into the web.
All the dirty secrets…
Including damning information that points to Lucy Stillman’s true allegiance.
A few hours after he releases everything, his phone rings.
It came from a number he didn’t know.
He still answered it though.
“Aiden?”
His shoulders slumped, the tension in his body slightly relaxing as he greeted back, “Desmond.”
“Hey.” Desmond’s tone was soft before he asked, “So, uh, random question but… did you just hacked Abstergo and released all their dirty laundry for me?”
Aiden chuckled before he answered, “They kidnapped you. I only returned the favor.”
Desmond laughed from the other end of the line before he teased, “You’re so romantic.”
Aiden’s lips curved into a small smile and he listened as Desmond asked, “So… how long are you going to make me wait?”
Aiden looked at his phone and saw that his call locator app had already finished triangulating the cell towers that Desmond’s phone was using, “I’ll be there in 10.”
“Alright. See you soon.”
“Yes… soon.”

Thoughts on Desmond/Aiden Pearce from watch dogs
Well, I happen to like Aiden so I am obligated to say that they would make a good pairing.
Although, Aiden’s path of revenge happened along the time period of Black Flag’s modern day setting (and we’re setting them in the same universe, fuck whatever Ubisoft says) so around 2013.
We can set their meeting as somewhere before 2012 then.
Perhaps during one of his hacking ‘sessions’ with Damien, they got a lot of money and they decided to celebrate in Bad Weathers. That’s where he and Desmond first met and they grew close.
In this one, Desmond and Aiden started dating before 2012 and Desmond became one of the few people Aiden loved.
Now, Aiden and Damien would attempt and fail to hack the Merlaut Hotel on Oct 2012 but… before that…
Desmond disappeared on September 1, 2012.
Maybe Aiden even sees it happening but is unable to save Desmond because Cross jumped on him and knocked him out, only leaving him alive because the order was ‘no bloodshed’.
When Aiden wakes up, the trail had run cold and Aiden spends the entire month trying to find him.
Finally getting a hit… in Italy.
Desmond’s phone was in Italy.
So, before Damien could even pull Aiden to helping him hack Merlaut Hotel…
Aiden had already booked a flight to Italy.
.
On Desmond’s side… having a very techie boyfriend has some upsides.
Like… knowing a trick or two to bypass certain surveillance and security programs embedded in computers and see the good stuffs.
So by the time that he had relived Altaïr’s fourth memory block, Desmond already knew about Project Siren and about Subject 16.
He also knows…
He needs his phone back.
While he can’t fully understand them (hell, the most he understands is that Aiden modified his phone to have apps that lets him hack to other devices connected to the internet or to any other type of connection with really easy UI. Desmond mainly uses it to force the lights to turn red so he can cross), he does know… that phone is the key he needs to get the fuck out of this place.
