laying in a field in the middle of the countryside with satoru. a sprawling meadow surrounded by a forest. the sun is setting and there’s a calm breeze but it’s june so the air is still warm on your skin. everything is so quiet, save for the echo of the cicadas. it’s the first time either of you have felt so at peace, especially satoru. he turns to you and remembers that it’s all over now. and you turn to him and you don’t even have to speak to tell him that he’s safe. you’re a reminder to him — he doesn’t have to worry anymore. it’s just him and you and the earth beneath you and the wildflowers that are blooming and the trees that are full and the birds and the moths and the ants. the rest of the world falls away as you curl into his side, press your cheek to his chest. his heart beats. his heart is still beating.
