Character // murphy grounder verse
born to sangeda murphy grew up in one of the most developed sangeda villages, one where they lived in ruins rather than tents, holding the main port for one of the only desert trade routes. he grew up as a happy kid with a happy family, all of that went south when murphy got sick, he was sick for days before his father went out and tried to steal medicine to help him, after being caught he was stoned to death with his wife and son cast out in accordance to his clans laws. before leaving murphy set fire to the house of the man who caught his father stealing, he lived in ruins so the cement didn’t burn but his belongings, bed and the man did. murphy went from a twelve year old who had been banished to a murderer who anyone from that village knew to kill on sight.
at first murphy stayed with his mother in a tent just outside sangeda territory, the dead zone wasn’t safe but with his mother’s drinking she was in no condition to travel. murphy would be the one to go on supply runs, he’d usually return to find his mother passed out with vomit in the hair. when she died he originally thought she had just passed out again. after that he left the dead zone himself moving from cave to cave, it sucked but not as much as the dead zone.

Headcanon // lexa’s tattoo
while i’m sure this was just the show and it’s ever changing tattoos i like to think she had one piece added to her arm for each war she won. she didn’t have one done for her conclave as she had her back tattoo done after her conclave. the first piece was done after of course the first war she won as commander, it was a short lived war against ouskejon after they tried to take land from neighbouring clans for their farms. she had the second piece added after the long war against azgeda ended with them being brought into the coalition. she added another after the war at mount weather.

Noncanon Trigedasleng of the Day
stapletei [ˈstæ.plɛ.teɪ]: n. Ides of March, the stabbing holiday; from a portmanteu of stabplei and hapotei
ha yo na gid stapletei op disha yiron?
How will y’all celebrate Stabbing Day this year?
Usage Note: whether this is actually a thing in Grounder culture is something I leave up to each of your individual headcanons, but it sure seems like the sort of thing we’d be into, don’t it?

Headcanon // luna’s meditation
luna’s meditation method that she used to calm raven down is generally perceived as something she used to calm herself down and while she did use it herself it was more often used for the other people on the rig. to calm people down when fights broke out, sending someone back to land was a last resort as luna believed it to be a horrible thing to do to someone, to take away their peace. it’s why she had no hesitation in her movements or what she was saying when bringing raven to the ground and having her repeat the mantra. she’d done it many times before and it helped that she was strong enough to handle any fight without violence.

Character // toro, ash, echo
Toro , toro was her birth name. the name given to her by her parents. it comes from toronto. up until she was eight this was the only name she had imagined herself being called however after the attack on her village and the deaths of her parents she was brought to azgeda’s capital as the only survivor.
Ash , queen nia gave her this name immediately after she was brought to troit. her village was cruelty set up in flames and she was named for such event. nia had already planned for her to become a spy as no one knew who she was, because of that she would never bare azgeda scars. however nia strongly believed it was important to never forget the pain of the past. to never forget where you came from so she became known as ash.
Echo , her final name. an unexpected one at that, after she killed the original echo she took her name, again so that she could never forget what she had done. echo still believes in the azgeda way of life and will never go back to using toro even now that she has scars.
spy’s always kept the names they used while undercover as it was their version of scars. scars were never used for aesthetics they were there physical reminders of who someone is and where they came from.

Clan Building // aerial yoga
performance art in general is actually very popular among grounders, delfiyon people are known for their aerial yoga. it’s something they do recreationally as well as for the entertainment of others. it’s commonly performed in delfiyon but during events held in polis or really any other clans territory delfiyon people are more than happy to perform and unlike yujleda and their fire shows they are plenty willing to teach people from other clans their abilities.
they will hang their hammocks from tall trees, ruins or whatever else they have given the circumstances as their aren’t many trees growing through the cement floors of polis. most often they use red hammocks but they aren’t picky over colour. opposite to yujleda’s fire shows which are accompanied by loud music they perform in silence. the only sound you can hear is the crowd who usually keep a respectful silence aside from natural reactions to the art.
being that aerial yoga is incredibly popular in delfiyon culture the vast majority of their population are well trained in the art. most learn the skill as children and only get better with age. that said it’s quite impressive how skilled the children are even at a young age. traveling through delfiyon territory at a peaceful time you’ll see groups of grounders practicing for pure recreational purposes, a few people will watch but it’s so common that the recreational version is nothing special.

Character // nat
Nat is a young grounder being sixteen when the first dropship came to earth. He was born into Podakru by two parents also born to the clan. His mother died of a disease when Nat was young, his father died when Nat was fifteen.
Nat was relatively secluded from the rest of his clan, because of this he’s still new to most of podakru’s culture especially the more violent traditions his parents had shielded him from.
While he isn’t an overly violent person he does kill and even counts his kills, while he doesn’t kill necessarily for sport he definitely takes pride in his skill. Most of his skill is held at long range combat, being best with a spear, slingshot and even a rifle after being introduced to such a weapon by skaikru. He took a lot of interest in their guns and became very skilled very quickly. Guns soon became his weapon of choice but previously he favoured the bow and arrow.
Overall survival skills are his expertise as his parents made sure he knew how to take care of himself, even by grounder standards he is an impressive hunter and can survive well on nothing other than the resources he finds in the area.

Clan Building // funerals
death in louwoda kliron is truly acknowledged as the saddest fate. aside from the commander they believe death is the end. based on their beliefs the funerals they hold would be considered a shocking contrast. they are colourful and lively events with singing and conversation.
louwoda kliron people are one of the only clans to bury their dead. despite believing death is the end and the bodies are empty they are still most often buried together with their loved ones. Whether or not this means redigging the graves.
the graves themselves look quite different than ours. colourful netting separates the body from the dirt while the rest of the grave is filled with natural beauty, like flowers, fruits, even animal corpses; most notably birds. as one might expect the graves become much less appealing when they’re dug back up, but the additional body comes with additional netting, flowers, etc so it’s not as bad as one might expect.

I don’t know who still needs to hear this but grounder isn’t some kind of slur
Are we forgetting that’s what they called their people from the ground too?
