Another ficlet of Steve and Eddie dancing

Established relationship / around 700 words / rated T (for being vaguely suggestive?) / teensiest allusion to homophobia

Eddie loves making out with Steve. He loves everything—anything—they do, but sometimes, all he wants is to make out with Steve on his couch, in his bed, in the backseat of Steve’s car. It’s consuming. Everything else falls away when he’s with Steve.

That’s why he doesn’t realize he forgot to change the radio to a decent station until they’ve been making out for… Fuck, Eddie doesn’t know how long. He just knows that Steve is hot above him and Eddie’s working on a hickey at the juncture of Steve’s neck and shoulder that Steve will complain about later but isn’t stopping Eddie from giving him now.

But Steve breaks away for a moment, shifting between Eddie’s legs, and, above the sounds of their breathing, comes the sound of music Eddie would never willingly listen to. He tries to ignore it because Steve’s tongue is in his mouth and his hand is up Eddie’s shirt, but now that he’s noticed the music it’s so distracting. Ugh.

He pushes a confused, dazed, Steve away and shuffles over to the radio.

“What—” Steve starts, then huffs when Eddie reaches for the radio dial. “Wait, don’t change it.” There’s warmth at Eddie’s back and Steve’s hands on his hips. “I like this song.”

And, no, this is all wrong. Steve isn’t meant to get up. He’s meant to stay on the couch, waiting for Eddie to pick a better station, so they can continue their make-out session with the right soundtrack. But now he’s swaying behind Eddie, chin hooked over Eddie’s shoulder.

“What are you doing?” Eddie asks.

“We,” Steve says, turning Eddie around, “are dancing.”

“Are we?”

“Yeah,” Steve says, arranging Eddie so he’s got one arm draped over Steve’s shoulder, holding Eddie’s other hand in his own, fingers interlaced.

“I thought we were fooling around.”

“We can do that later,” Steve says, but he pulls Eddie close with the arm around his waist, so their bodies are flush. And maybe they’re a little less horizontal than Eddie would like, but he can deal with this.

“Kind of an old-fashioned song for your taste, isn’t it?”

“Old stuff is cool now,” Steve says. “Anyway, it was in Dirty Dancing.”

“Oh, so you think you’re Patrick Swayze, or something, huh?”

“Sure.” Steve rolls his hips, thigh slotted between Eddie’s, and winks.

Heat rushes Eddie, and he almost wishes they were back on the couch, but this is a different kind of fun. Still, he clears his throat and says, “Okay, just don’t tell anyone.” He bites Steve’s jaw. “I’ve got a certain reputation to protect, you know.”

“Oh, yeah, I was planning on telling the whole town I was slow dancing with another guy.”

It stings, but Eddie knows it hurts Steve too despite the joke. So, he cups the back of Steve’s neck, bringing their foreheads together for a moment. He sinks his fingers into Steve’s hair and tugs a little.

Steve hums and kisses him, then pulls back so he can sing: “For every kiss you give me—” He taps his cheek expectantly.

Eddie rolls his eyes, but he plants a wet kiss on the spot he touched.

Then Steve sings, “I’ll give you three,” and kisses Eddie three times, once on each cheek, and then on his mouth.

It’s corny and so Steve that Eddie aches, heart too big for his chest. Fuck, he loves this dorky, sexy, romantic idiot. “You’re such a dork.”

“So are you.”

Eddie doesn’t even pretend to be offended. “I love you.”

“I know.” Steve grins, pulling Eddie impossibly tighter against him, and whispers, “I love you too,” into Eddie’s ear.

A shiver runs down Eddie’s spine and his heart beats hard.

Dancing in his trailer to ‘Be My Baby’ with Steve has got to be one of the most ridiculously romantic things Eddie’s ever done. Not that there’s been a whole lot of romance in his life, at least not before Steve. But this is… This is nice. Really nice. He can’t deny that.

So, he lets Steve spin them around, sways along with him, even pulls a couple moves of his own that make Steve smile wide. And when the song fades out, he doesn’t change the station.

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that it was the scene where he catches her with the book open to Sex magic alone at night in the library. 😏

3) What's your favorite line of narration?

Your arousal, stiffening your nipples and the iridescent sheen from your orgasm, highlighted by the stain glass window, dripping down your thighs. 🔥

13) What music did you listen to while writing this story?

I usually listen to a lot of ghost when I write...no surprise but also depending on the fic I change it up. I think with this one and admittedly it's been a minute since I wrote it, I was also listening to things like Digity Daggers and the soundtrack to Dracula. 🦇

Depending if some people with iron built nerves (like you) organises some writing/challenge event... I try to join in, if time and muse allow... There´s no specific favorite season, but I guess that harvest feats and yuletide are nice moments to share the fun!

🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?

Unfortunately... if my fic gets a lot of kudos (niche comments are a touching plus to the effect).... though I know, I should not take the stats too personally/close... referring to a very supportive ao3 advice post of late.... but maybe that´s just "human"...?

Still, deep inside, I think, each fic can be considered a success, when there is this feel of loss the moment I press enter to post the last chapter (or a one-shot), and then I sigh because I miss my characters so much already and the sense of thrill while writing along with them (their ups and downs, embarrassing, funny, or fluffy moments which gave me goosebumps or simply wonderful feelings).

The thought that plops up in my mind saying "that´s a cool fic you´ve created"... 🥺 It´s a success to me since I love it so much and find myself sneaking back to read my own lines considering them simply nice... 🤗

Hiiii! I just finished re-reading your “Symmetry” series on ao3, and I just wanted to say how much I love it! Thrawn is so in character and Amillia is an amazing OC, and I thoroughly enjoy their interactions (that Empire Day Ball arc in “Perhaps Not” is so so good, I don’t know if I want to laugh, cry or what. I know I want to lock them in a closet for a long while, that’s for sure…!). And your supporting characters are really well written too. I particularly love Eli’s insightfulnes and curiosity. And Krennic! He hasn’t been featured much but boy is he well written. He is such a flirt and I am here for it! 😂 Also, I have always hated Pryce, but I feel that my hatred will reach new levels with this fic.

Part II of “Perhaps Not” looks like it’s going to be incredibly interesting as well. I have so many questions and cannot wait to see what you do with the story! I love that there’s apparently going to be some sith lore as part of the plot, and I’m really curious about the Professor (especially since Amillia’s dad was a war historian/academic… did these two know each other?), and I look forward to seeing how it ties to the main plot, particularly since Thrawn accepted Pryce’s offer (will he end up going to Lothal? I low-key don’t want him to, since we know how that ends from Rebels…).

I know you haven’t updated the story in a while, and don’t know if you have any interest un doing so, but if you do, know that you have a fan over here cheering you on (I know that writing for a niche fandom can be a bit discouraging). If you ever need motivation in the form of someone to nerd out about Thrawn, you can count on me!

god that empire day arc was fun but hell to write. not only because it spanned 4 chapters but because it was like herding cats 🤣 i didn’t even mean to end it like that but yeah this thing has a mind of its own

i appreciate you liking the support characters! i love eli and faro too so they definitely have parts to play! there’s also no ball if krennic and his cape couldn’t make an appearance so i’m glad you enjoyed him as much as i do (even if everybody else in the story didn’t hehe). and this might come as a surprise but i actually don’t hate pryce? she’s a lot, but like everything she will have her part to play. unfortunately, she didn’t make a good impression with the batonn incident and that marked her as a threat in amillia’s eyes.

we’ve only scratched the surface with part 1. if i actually get my brain working, we’ll have more surprises and lore in store for part 2. other readers had their theories about the professor and what’s going on so there’s a lot of possibilities in the mix there. stealing from sith vaults doesn’t go unpunished 😉 it only gets crazier from here (according to what my outline tells me)

finally, as someone crazy enough to tackle a star wars story with an original character, i really appreciate you liking amillia. i figured thrawn has enough on his plate, so why not make his life harder with amillia and imperial intelligence breathing down his neck? 😜 those two have a lot to sort out and want nothing to do with each other at this point (or so they say to themselves) but the Force and the universe have other ideas of course. not to mention palpatine and other unknown enemies lurking beyond the borders...
