i’ll write a more in-depth post later but:
written all over your face: a mixture between grunge-rock and pop-punk. the guitars were absolutely insane. such a fast heat. you guys are not ready for this song in particular. she’s the main character of this era 1000% pop punk princess
face the music: think early 2000s pop punk. very similar to written all over your face, but much more condensed. the bridge was phenomenal. a chanting “WHOA WHOA WHOA” that is definitely a crowd moment. we were racing around each other during that part. reminiscent of reliant k, cartel, jimmy eat world.
Saturday: A sadder track. it’s one of the best ballads he’s ever written. his vocals were incredible. the bridge of saturdays has such a soaring quality to it, and it builds to his high vocal moment.
all this time: very tame impala 2015 very fuzzy synths. very driving down the highway at night. it’s just a steady alt-club hit.
the departure of sound from walls when it comes to FITF is insane like i know he said it was different, but it truly feels like FITF is it’s own animal. it feels entirely louis. it just exudes such a punkier edge both in sound and in feel. this is his record

Summer is definitely here in the Pacific Northwest. Sunshine and warm temperatures have arrived here on the west side of the Cascade Mountains Crest. As the weather has gotten sunnier and warmer,  the park’s roadcrew and Washington DOT have worked tirelessly to ready and open all the summer park roads. Many drivers have already taken advantage of the opening on State Routes 410 and 123 to cruise the park’s east side and access trailheads and scenic spots.
Had you visited the national park before 1940, this wouldn’t have been an option for you. The road we know as State Route 410, connecting Yakima to Enumclaw over Chinook Pass at the Cascade Crest had been built and paved. But you wouldn’t have been able to drive south down to Packwood on Highway 12.
This connecting road we now call State Route 123 was built in the 1930s. A partnership of the state of Washington, National Park Service and the Bureau of Public Roads (U.S.D.A.), this road was surveyed starting in 1931. Over the next few years, the road was graded and built. In this challenging terrain, the road needed several bridges and a tunnel.
Tumblr media
Deer Creek Bridge was one of the bridges built on SR 123. Like many bridges in the park, it was designed in the rustic style to match the natural world around it. Deer Creek bridge is covered in hand carved stone  and is a beautiful example of the stonework done throughout the park. Construction of this bridge took 2 years, 1938-39, and cost $69,641.11. SR 123 opened for public use on June 16, 1940. Since then, who knows how many people have driven up and down this gorgeous stretch of road. Have you driven SR 123? Have you ever stopped at a pull-out to take in the scenery and these beautiful stone bridges? Which of the park bridges is your favorite? ~ams

FT Day 23
1/24/24
We were not woken up by anyone asking us to move, but instead by a train three times during the night. We had set up about 12 feet from train tracks. We had been hopeful the tracks were not active but they were. The first train we didn’t know what was going on. I wondered why a truck would be so loud or so close to us, then we both accepted our imminent death as a loud and chaotic train passed us by. The cars did not sound as stable in the dark as they look in the day. We were fine, just terrified. This happened three times over the night.
We woke up early to finish off our stealthy experience and walked along the highway again. I was disappointed we couldn’t take the old highway, which previous hikers had commented had lots of wildlife, including “gators and otters.” It was now blocked off with no trespassing signs and in the dark we wouldn’t be able to tell if the bridges were secure.
We soon turned off the large highway which was a relief. We continued through a neighborhood and even played a little basketball. We passed a school and once again received weird, racist stares.
We stopped at a Circle K and used the bathroom and got coffee. We continued on a large sidewalk for many miles.
I got behind Morpheus when I stopped at a 7-11 to use their bathroom. When we passed a Circle K I looked for his pack outside but didn’t see it, so I continued on to catch up.
It turned out he had stopped, and this was the last store for 60 miles of trail. I felt foolish I called him and asked him to grab me a few snacks, then stopped on a large dirt shoulder to finally eat some food out of my pack. He caught up and we continued on.
It seems this was the most dangerous road in the world for otters because we saw three dead otters on this section. I was devastated. It seems my desire to see otters was granted by the monkey’s paw. I want to see LIVE otters.
We were excited to get to a trail in 5 miles. It was a paved bike trail, but we wouldn’t be dodging cars. We finally arrived and it felt like an oasis. There was a bathroom with running water at the end. I ran out of water so we had to walk the 4 miles of trail. We were both tired. Something about the pavement is a special form of fatigue for your feet.
We made dinner under the pavilion before crashing.

Bridges linking the Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Islands are set to begin construction within a few years. It was one of the priority projects of the Duterte administration's "Build, Build, Build" program and is now being undertaken by the BBM administration's “Build, Better, More” program. In previous years, advocates have raised concerns over how the proposed design will disrupt and possibly endanger the marine life living within the straits the bridges will be built over.
Tumblr media
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has signed a P2.67 billion contract with a group of Korean firms for the detailed engineering design (DED) of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridges Project.
Public Works Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan approved the contract for consultant’s services of Yooshin Engineering Corporation in a joint venture with Kyong-Ho Engineering and Architects Co., Ltd., Dohwa Engineering Co., Ltd., Soosung Engineering Co., Ltd., and Dasan Consultants Co., Ltd for the DED and tender assistance, a crucial step forward in the realization of this key infrastructure flagship project in Western Visayas Region.
According to senior undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, the cost of engineering services will be funded by a loan with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), the official export credit agency of South Korea from the official development assistance (ODA) of Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
Section A will house the Panay-Guimaras Islands with a total length of 13-kilometer with an estimated civil works cost of P57.702 billion.
Meanwhile, Section B covers the 19.47 kilometer Guimaras-Negros Islands bridge amounting to an indicative cost of P109.76 billion.

[A very similar article was published by SunStar a few days later.]
Philstar.com: Advocates push for stronger protection of disappearing Irrawaddy dolphins in Iloilo-Guimaras straits
There are only an estimated 10 to 13 individual Irrawaddy dolphins left in the area, and advocates fear the construction of a proposed bridge will lead to the disappearance of the subpopulation.
Advocates have been calling on the national government and local governments in Negros to declare the habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins as marine protected area [MPA], establish no-boat or slow-boat zones and no fishing areas, regulate fishing gears, and conduct regular monitoring of the species. They also call for livelihood support for fisherfolk who will be affected by the proposed MPA.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources classify the rare Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) as critically endangered.

Mangrove Matters PH on FB:
No To Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge! Save our Irrawaddy Dolphins!
There are three subpopulations of Irrawaddy Dolphins in the Philippines and one of those can be found in Guimaras Strait. There is an estimated 9-19 individuals of these dolphins left in the Guimaras Strait population.

Rob Georg “Won For Y‘all” now at radio: Radio/Media Download Here
Tumblr media
Country music has always been regarded as an American sound bred in the southern regions, but if fans have learned anything from the likes of keith urban, country music can come up from anywhere in the world. This leads us to the German radio cowboy himself, Rob Georg. Very few would imagine a cowboy from Germany, but Rob Georg just does not wear the label, he lives the lifestyle. He spent the first chapter of his life as a professional equestrian athlete in the discipline of cutting. Here cowboys work cattle from horseback, all in true country fashion. He has won various championship titles that have led him to participate in the highly endowed tournament, the world series. For an entire decade Georg was traveling across American cutting arenas with his trainer Dean Terry. With the many miles spent together on the highways, the two soon connected a deep friendship. When terry passed away in January 2018 and Georg’s beloved soul horse “primetime shorty” also crossed the rainbow bridge just one month later, a world broke down for the cowboy. To clear his head, he decided to take a break from ranch life. And so, the passionate amateur singer flew to Nashville “Music City USA” Tennessee to work on his singing skills with a professional vocal coach Kristin k. Smith (Katie Mac, Jillian Steele, Casey Derhak, Smithfield, and Josh Dorr to name just a few). encouraged by her words, Georg began recording his music and never looked back. Read the full article

i’m sorry but seeing that tiny pride flag in one of the boxes backstage regardless of who took it and knowing louis performs a song every night that resonates with his queer audience just makes me think about how much has changed since 2013. how unfathomable this would’ve been just two years ago actually. it’s really nice to take a step back and look at these things and notice the progression that’s been had in his image with something that has been isolated from him for so long. so so excited for him.

Rob Georg “Won For Y‘all”
Tumblr media
His debut single “push that horn”, a tribute which he wrote in memory of Dean Terry, was released in June 2018 and is still being played in every cutting arena in the U.S. Since then, Georg has released several country singles further demonstrating his songwriting talent, as well as his vocal prowess. Georg also knows how to captivate his audience live, whether on his first U.S. tour from Denver to Seattle, on stages on Nashville Broadway scene or the biggest country music events in Europe, such as the country music meeting berlin or the western experience in the Netherlands – the cowboy casts a spell over the audience. In 2020 Georg’s debut album “radio cowboy” was released to much praise which to date has racked up more than a million streams on Spotify alone. The official videos have been viewed over 2. 7 million times. So far, five singles have been released to radio, reaching an incredible number of 17 #1 positions on various U.S. charts. His latest radio release “this old house” just spent two weeks at #1 in the U.S. national radio hits country chart and has made the jump to #1 on the new music weekly charts. Fans and music critics are equally enthusiastic: “… A great, very catching album, which is certainly one of the strongest “German” productions of the past 10 years …” country.de (Germany’s largest online country music magazine) “Honestly, there isn’t a sub-par track on the album, mostly because of the wealthy, enticing voice of Rob Georg, oh so appealing.” rawckus.com (Rawckus magazine reviews new releases in all genres of music) “… Raises the bar in terms of passion, dedication and commitment …” artistrack.com (Artistrack magazine evaluates new releases in all music genres) “Rob Georg’s skills and talent is unquestionable and every song is more beautiful than the last” Indiepulsemusic.com (indie pulse music magazine reviews new releases of all music genres) Georg had an insanely good year 2020 – with his album release, he not only celebrated chart placements, invitations to special live concerts, such as the country radio seminar in Nashville in February, or streaming numbers – he also won his first international music award at the new music awards “breakthrough country artist of the year”, and the fair play country music red carpet award in the Netherlands “amazing male voice country pop original”. So, it will not surprise you that Georg and his co-writers are already busy writing tracks for the second album. In his Covid19 lockdown project, a Spotify podcast called “country music ain’t dead,” of which the first episode was released in early December 2020, he supported other country artists from around the world by interviewing them and then introducing them to his 450,000+ social media followers. Management companies and artists are jockeying for interview slots on the bi-weekly artist talk, which has been booked full into late summer 2021 and was published bi-monthly. On top of the struggle all artists had to face in this unexpected moment, bad news were adding up for Georg. Both of his parents got diagnosed with severe illnesses. So, he moved into his parent’s house for several months, first for supporting his mom while his dad had to undergo several surgeries with extended hospital stays, then for the caretaking of his father and for helping him to recover from the severe surgical procedures, spending the nights watching over mom and dad at their house writing new songs. “I never wrote my lyrics and recorded my vocals with so much devotion and emotion like i did for these coming songs!” Georg says followed by a deep sigh. If there’s one thing Rob proved to us with the two songs “Ghost” and “Carry The Wind” from his debut album, it’s that his special talent is to turn heartbreaking experiences into wonderful pieces of music that are outstanding. As soon as the travel ban was lifted in late 2021, Rob finally was able to plant his feet on us ground again, just to be back in the studio and record the new material, of which one new song is being published every 6 weeks from March 2022 on. With winning the New Music Award in the category “Country Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” in 2022 and being nominated for the Josie Awards in the categories “Artist of the Year 2022” and “Song of the Year 2022” (“My Mother’s Arms”, the second release of the new recorded songs), he managed to get back into his career stronger than before. But after all, he still is the cowboy that he used to be. Together with his wife Mel Georg, he runs a ranch in the Odenwald forest, Germany, with horses, cattle, sheep and a bunch of border collies, which Mel breeds and trains to be stock dogs. Asked why he’s still doing the chores himself, Georg answers “the animals are my life, and i can’t think of doing something else. This is where i find my inspiration. This is what keeps me grounded.” Georg’s songs reflect the life he leads and the stories he lives to tell.
