s5 methadone arc annoys me so much because there was so much potential for it yet it only lasted a single episode. it would have been well worth exploring- house walking the line of being pain free but also risking his life with a dangerous drug. everyone else worried sick for him while he's literally thriving and in a fantastic mood. then eventually, he'd begin to struggle; he couldn't drink alcohol on methadone, and we know how much he depends on booze. I don't think that dependency would go away even if he wasn't in pain. and being kept on such a short leash, having cuddy monitor him, it would eventually get to him. it's house, he doesn't do well with taking orders. and only after all that, maybe he'd make a mistake with a patient, or something else would drive him back to alcohol and vicodin.

it was bullshit that he gave it up bc he thought his good mood made him a worse doctor, because he had no such worries when he was pain free after the ketamine. not for a second did he feel like he was worse at his job because he wasn't miserable. him giving up so easily and so quickly simply makes no sense, even if I do believe that eventually, house would have gone back to his old ways, like he always does. I'm just mad he did it for a stupid excuse and we missed out on an interesting exploration of House's relationship with substance abuse.

I hope y'all are doing well #ive been reading a lot of fics with these two and i see how the authors have the characters refer to each other in their fics #and that got me wondering how much do they say each other's name in the show and how do they refer to each other #since this is the wilson video ill put his stats here #s1 was 11 times s2 was 18 s3 was 45 s4 was 32 s5 was 41 s6 was 60 s7 was 47 and s8 was 48 #in total he says his name 302 times. Mostly refers to him just by House #the only time I've heard him say his first name its when he's being professional or when he's really angry (and that one time he proposed) #and even then it's always the full name not just the first name #the only instance I've seen him use just his first name was on that note he put on House's xmas gift that we see in season 5 #and as much as I wanted to put that moment in here he never actually says the contents of the note out loud so i had to leave it out #but what surprised me was he says House's name more than House says his name #especially when the earlier seasons didn't have him say his name as much

i find it a very interesting choice that house md ends on enjoy yourself rather than you can’t always get what you want or maybe even the actual lyrical version of teardrop by massive attack.

enjoy yourself is the most optimistic of the songs and i’ve seen people complain that it kind of comes from nowhere and the actual meaning of the song especially considering that post-canon, wilson will die and house is dead figuratively (and will probably die literally with wilson), the song is not only a call to the viewer to live their lives to the fullest but asks house and wilson to enjoy the time they have left as they drive away from us, their stories are fundamentally over.

enjoy yourself is only referenced one other time in the show when hallucination amber sings it to house at a restaurant just before the hallucination finale of season 5. this presentation of enjoy yourself by “ghost” amber, someone who haunts house from his guilt over her death and near destruction of his relationship with wilson as a result is also a callback to her death in the first place. house is so scared by hallucination amber singing this song to him he begs wilson over the phone to pick him up, the exact request that killed amber. the optimistic song about living out your life to the fullest sung by the manifestation of his guilt, someone who died too soon also coupled with kutner dying 3 episodes prior to this, just makes the final use of this song so fascinating. the house writers obviously called back to this moment because it was house’s fear of death and change that made the initial scene scary. meanwhile house accepts wilson’s death and his death in the finale after healing and growing. this is why i think enjoy yourself is the perfect finale song. the house writers are telling us that they accept that their time is up and we should too, even though death is horrible and tragic and scary at the same time, everybody dies.

watching the s5 house finale, i knew something was off but I couldn't tell what, cuddy's reactions to his pranks and house's whole thing with the lipstick was really confusing me.

but fuck i wasn't expecting the whole thing to be a hallucination......

i was really confused that they only showed one night of house's detox, i chalked it up to bad writing and maybe they skipped a few days, cuz no way in hell he throws up for one night and suddenly he's sober and painfree.... and well... i guess i was right
