Unspoken Rivalry | Zayne/Reader + Implied!Caleb/Reader

About: Ever since that incident, you rarely mentioned Caleb to anyone. So when you suddenly brought him up while in the fitting room with Zayne, his curiosity was piqued, albeit unwillingly.

Pairings: Zayne/Reader, Implied!Caleb/Reader

Notes: Sorry for repost and not smut haha. Decided to put all my L&DS writings here on this sideblog instead of my main blog because I didn't want to muddle things up. Anyway got this idea when Zayne was surprised at MC knowing how to tie a tie and I was like, HMMM maybe because she had practice with Caleb??? But nope the game went the other way.

“I’m shocked. I didn’t expect you to be good at tying a tie.”

You inspected the black tie you had selected for Zayne for a moment, nodding in approval at your own tastes. 

“Why, of course.” You said with a smile, glancing at him before directing him to face the full length mirror before you two. “I had a lot of practice.”

“Practice?”

“Caleb.” Zayne raised his eyebrows at the sudden mention of that name; your mutual childhood friend who had sadly passed away months prior. You rarely mentioned him nowadays, so to hear his name slip past your lips without anything prompting was a surprise.

“I… I used to do his tie for him before we went to school.” You whispered, fond memories of you tying his school tie while you complained about him not doing it himself surfaced. It felt like it was just yesterday when you complained about his odd request of making you do this every school day morning, but now… 

“I’m sure he’s capable of doing it himself.” Zayne remarked, careful with his choice of words. He eyed you through the mirror, pointedly ignoring the sting of jealousy that made itself known when he saw you smiled wistfully.

You shook your head and looked ahead, eyes unseeing and absorbed in those innocent, carefree days where everything was still normal. “He said it’s for good luck.” You explained, missing the light bemused snort beside you. “He would whine about not having the goddess of luck’s blessing if I didn’t.” 

‘That could’ve been you in his place.’ A traitorous part of him mumbled, and Zayne promptly shoved that thought back to the corners of his mind. But it ceased to be silenced. ‘That should’ve been you. But you chose to distance yourself.’ 

‘It was for her sake.’ 

‘But was it worth it? Missing precious time with her? Being replaced by someone else?’ That voice hissed, reminding him of the reluctant distance he had placed between him and you. He told himself that it was necessary for him to focus on his studies if he wanted to take care of you in the future, and that indulging in your presence then would only hinder his carefully laid plans. ‘You were the perfect match for her and yet you–’ 

Opting not to let his darker, less desirable thoughts taunt him, Zayne focused on you instead, placing a hand behind the small of your back and brought you before the mirror. 

“Do you think we still match?” He asked, his hushed question barely over the calming instrumentals that the shop you were in chose to play. If it weren’t for him being right next to you, you would’ve missed his question entirely.

You scrutinized his outfit through the mirror, and smiled. “I think we do.” 

“Good.” Zayne let out a breath he unconsciously held back. He stared at his reflection once more, wondering. Would he have had the same treatment if he had stayed?

If Caleb was still the same boy he had met all those years ago, he would’ve hated you extending the same care towards Zayne himself. He remembered being at the receiving end of Caleb’s piercing gaze multiple times when they were still together, especially when you had looked to Zayne instead of him for certain matters.

‘The past matters naught. What’s important is now and the future.’ He thought as he turned his focus towards you, silencing the doubts of you favoring Caleb over him.

“Will you tie my tie for me on that day then?” He asked, the corners of his lip threatening to twitch upward when you stared at him, perplexed.

“Do you need the goddess of luck’s blessing as well?” You joked in response, only to sigh when you realized he was serious. “Don’t tease me, Zayne. Why would you need me to do it anyway?”

“For luck.”

“Why would you need luck of all things? It’s just a banquet!”

“You never know.” Zayne parroted the words you said this morning. You sighed, wondering if he lied about only studying and joined a debate club when he was still in school.

“Fine! I don’t understand why you and Caleb want me to tie it when you two could do it better than me.” A small smile appeared on his face as you grumbled, preparing to change out of the outfit he had picked out for you.

‘You will understand eventually.’ He thought as a staff member approached him with his card and receipt in hand, thanking him for his patronage. 

‘For what man wouldn’t want their goddess' attention?’

idk how u feel about eremin or ereminmika but I haven’t been able to get this out of my head 😩

I think during time skip the dynamics between them changed and mika somewhat became the center of their group, Eren and Armins relationship fraying while Mikasas remained strong with the both of them 🥺

Armin having somewhat of a resentment towards Mikasa too, in a I love you so much and you’re the best person in my life but you ruin me type of way. He doesn’t understand how she can still love Eren so freely while he suffers from the same love he shares for the other boy. Their sexual relationship starts on accident but keeps itself alive through Armin taking his frustration out on her despite it all and her taking it, just wanting to just feel him because he’s the only one out of her boys who’s even expressing things to her even if it is negative bc at least it’s not the indifference erens seems to have taken to them 😩

Armin and Eren get to fuck too 👉👈 I think Armin would bring up the fact that he has Mikasa, that Mikasa might love Eren but she loves Armin as well and that at the end of the day it’s him who gets to fuck her and Eren the selfish bastard he is hates that even if he too loves them both.

They’re both overly dominant imo 😭 they don’t contest to one another. Eren is just Eren and Armin refuses to back down bc wasn’t it Eren who was always telling him to fight back. Both trying to show that they’re better than the other while mourning the love they share at the same time. They look to hurt each other in this moment.

i absolutely adore ereminkasa or ereminmika or ema or whatever the fuck you wanna call it. they were my OG OT3 and I am committed to them for life. i wrote amoral virtue with this in mind in 2015, and I swear I was such a shy 20-year old, me rn would have totally made them fuck. i also wrote "thinking out loud" with the ambition of playing out this love triangle but I took it off ao3 bc I am probably never gonna finish it >.<

ANYWAY on to your godly headcanon, I love it!!!

i just love the idea of armin having been silently in love with mika his whole life, and when he still sees her pining after him when he's obviously out there being asshole#1, he just looses it. Mikasa would totally give into him tbh bc she does love him, he's armin, he's all things good and she trusts him more than anyone. so overtime all things he tells her actually starts to sink in... T_T

Imagine - threesome ema where armin and eren are so fucking competitive! fighting to see who can make her feel better. armin wins maybe, makes her orgasm so many times bc by now he's figured out the formula.

But eren's a biter, and the next day when eren's marks are still on Mikasa's neck you bet he's not gonna let armin live it down.

Like so many of my fave poly ships started out as two or three other good ships that I just smashed together and became so much better as a result!! Like Emi/Mob/Teru, Della/Launchpad/Penumbra, Dave/Jade/Karkat, Finn/Poe/Rey, Pidge/Lance/Keith, Glimmer/Adora/Bow, Bakugo/Uraraka/Izuku like GOD. 

Maybe it’s because I am a multishipper at heart but every time I see ship wars I am just like…guys….poly ships….they rule…smoosh them together….they have two hands. I also think it’s just something I have been into since I was a kid since I ALWAYS thought that at the end of The Road To El Dorado Tulio, Miguel, and Chel were dating?? And when I found out that wasn’t how it ended as an adult I was like????? What????? Did I hallucinate that????? But anyway I’m in full on denial about that they are all dating and it’s wonderful.

Like the only times I don’t like poly ships is when I hate one of the characters. Like in The Hunger Games the love triangle wasn’t the point and it was all a metaphor for choosing between war and peace but like god everyone was saying Katniss should date both but I HATED Gale from the beginning so I was like nooooo no no no Peeta for life. But that’s pretty rare, most of the time I am SO down with poly ships.

And poly ships end up giving you such wonderful and unique ideas and dynamics?? Like it’s so sweet and wonderful and interesting and AHHH. (And tbh I have been looking inside myself and I’m kinda starting to think that I might be poly? Like not enough that I want to add anyone to my current relationship, I think since I’m bi it’s kinda like that, I don’t need to be in a polycule but the option is there. But that’s a whole other can of worms.)

ALSO EMMA/NORMAN/RAY IS BLESSED!!!! As soon as I saw them I was like poly ship, right there, that’s a good one, fuck yeah. I am hoping that in the comic they can all make up and end up dating cuz rn I am worried about Norman big time.

hello my name is *yells about Furuba*

I dunno what I’m doing but I have Feelings so let me rant about them, by me.

Some of y'all may not know that Fruits Basket is my favorite series on the planet– well you do now. That comes with a caveat of favorite manga, not favorite anime (that honor goes to either Noragami or Chihayafuru, with Madoka Magica as an honorable mention). I do also love the anime dearly! But comparing them is like apples and oranges, horses of different colors, etc etc, not least because the anime was made before the manga was barely halfway through. futile hope springs eternal for a full remake. So most of my feels rant will be manga-centric although the general feels apply to the anime, and uh there may be spoilers idk it’s been out for a long time???

The first volume came out in the US five days after my *deep breath* 15th birthday. I got it for the next year’s bday present from my big sis, aaaand that was when the gates of otaku/manga hell swallowed me up (I was somehow unaware that Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh were also Japanese pop culture, go figure.) I have no memory of how I found the anime– my anime-bittorrent-whateverthefuck knowledge was nonexistent but I don’t think it was airing live. I got the box set for some Christmas but that would’ve been after I was a massive fan so *shrug*

Anyway I watched the dub first and holy hell if I wasn’t planning to marry Yuki Sohma before then I definitely was after that, thanks Eric Vale. (I still have huge love for the dub cast fight me). Yun-chan was my first 2D crush and tbqh I’m still in love with him. Also I stg he’s the whole reason why pretty boys are a Big Thing of mine. And wait omg Shigure’s first appearance?! Like, that’s probably why dudes with glasses are also My Thing wow I just blew my own mind but moving on

Fun fact I couldn’t choose between Kyoru or Yukiru bc they were both cute (present me@young me: u will realize eventually grasshopper) but I was 100% cool with Kyoru happening because of course then I could be with Yuki. Cue me dabbling in a few paragraphs of self-insert fic.
