5. What’s a crackship you love?
Is it cheating to say “not applicable”?
Like… I’ve just never seen the appeal in shipping anything for its own sake. Don’t really care that much.
15. Post the last line you wrote without context.
“…I don’t know. They probably won’t let me have anything I could use as a weapon. “
17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.
I’ve got a couple in the eighty billion WIPs I’m sitting on, so copied directly from the list:
cloud and sephiroth have to work together to deal with a bigger threat but they still super hate each other
The thing I hate about a lot of Sephiroth redemption fics is that they sort of miss the point about why Sephiroth was the bad guy in the first place. It’s not that Sephiroth isn’t redeemable – it’s that he’s completely unrepentant, and that’s a really important distinction to make. Sephiroth is completely convinced he did nothing wrong when he unquestionably did; he did a terrible, selfish thing and is utterly convinced it was for a higher purpose and not just him lashing out at the world because it had hurt him. Sephiroth does not want to be “forgiven” by anyone, because anyone that could isn’t someone he wants forgiveness from in the first place.
Also as forgiving as Cloud tends to be, Sephiroth did sort of butcher his mother in cold blood, try to kill Tifa and Zack, did kill Aeris, burned his house down, and goaded him into a complete mental breakdown to accomplish his own ends of committing genocide so no one else could ever use him again, and Sephiroth did all this impersonally and considers Cloud not his “arch rival”, but collateral damage. He did not care. So lest we forget, the bad blood between them runs a hell of a lot deeper than an impersonal “you tried to blow up the Planet”.
So far there’s zero fic out there preserving this aspect of either relationship – you either get Cloud completely cool with it, or you get the flipside where Sephiroth just has this giant hateboner for Cloud but then that’s his only motivation, just dicking over Cloud in particular. Everyone is doing it wrong, as per usual.
Naturally, the only solution is for me to write the world’s worst road trip where nobody becomes better friends by the end of it, the lessons learned aren’t about setting aside differences, and where the real treasure was the begrudging mutual need to save their own skins possibly ending in murder anyway that we discovered along the way. Think Vegeta, but even angrier.
time travel but not to fucking crisis core for once, a fifteen year-old cloud goes to the future and has trouble adjusting to the fact that he’s hooked up with the mayor’s daughter somehow but for some reason nobody likes shinra anymore and it’s not a good thing that he’s in soldier
Why the fuck not, y’all love this time travel shit, right?
The main problem with this one is that it’s an idea that seems like it would need a full length fic behind it, but beyond “culture shock” I can’t actually think of a plot it would have.
But maybe the culture shock aspect of it and the fact that Cloud got basically everything he ever wanted but the world is mostly a worse-off place for it so it’s still horribly unfair and watching him actually experience that in real time instead of ironically on a metal level would be enough to carry it? I dunno, nobody does non-Crisis Core time travel so I figure someone would have to, but shit, I have no idea what I’m doing with any of these.
