something about how gillion always called finn "grandfather" when talking abt him to others, but the MOMENT finn was in front of him he immediately reverted to grandpa. something about how he teared up when finn pinched his nose, or how he carried finn to his bed (tub) to rest, or how he just sat with drey and asked to hear stories about finn,,, something about before, when he'd constantly say "oh, I didn't see him often/know him very well" but clearly caring about finn so much. makes me wonder if finn was a source of comfort for gillion (much like edyn) before he left.

i read a few fics with triton!pretzel and they were adorable, and now i cant get the idea of a shapeshifter pretzel out of my head so have some doodles

a few ideas i had:

-gillion found her wandering around in the palace in her frogtopus form when she was 6, after she had been abandoned and managed to find her way inside

- he decided to take care of her and the elders didnt care as long as his "new pet" didn't interfere with his training, assuming she was a frogtopus

- she first changed forms in front of gillion a few months later, and knowing that the elders would send her away, gillion decided to just not tell them and hope they never asked

- 3 yrs later, gillion is banished and pretzel comes with him

- she feels safer as a frogtopus, smaller and less noticable, and asks gill not to tell chip and jay about her

-they dont find out until shortly after joaldo, when chip finds a small triton girl curled up in the storage room and panics, thinking they accidentally kidnapped another kid

- gill takes pretzel and puts her to bed in his barrel, and then tells the rest of the crew abt her, asking them to let her come to them herself when she's comfortable

- he does tell pretzel when she wakes up that they saw her as a triton, and after that she starts approaching them one by one, and eventually spends most of her time on the ship as a triton

- she insists on coming with gillion on adventures and stays safe in her ball

- sometimes she does agree to stay behind with ollie

- everything that happens in the feywild is just as devastating

- when chip and jay find her, without gillion, she is incredibly distraught

- she and ollie make mischief together, and the rest of the crew are terrible influences on them (what else would you do with the daughter of one of the captains and the small boy you keep on the ship but enable their shenanigans)

- chip definitely looks at her and ollie and sees himself and lizzie as kids

- she tackles "auntie edyn" when she see her again

- also calls jay "auntie jay"

- chip is just chip because "you cant be my uncle, you like my papa so that would be weird" (chip and gill are not dating when she says this, she is just a very observant 9 yr old)

- when they get back to zero, and ms. teach confronts chip and gill, he tells her that what they did was unforgivable and he knows what it feels like to have your child taken from you

- later, after returning from featherpoint, and wile making preparations to leave, gillion approaches her again to ask a favor

- he tells her that he knows she does not like him and owes him nothing, and that it may be a lot to ask of her, but he cannot bring pretzel with him to the black sea, and she has nowhere else to go.

- he asks her to take care of pretzel for a while until he can come back, and she agrees, on the condition that he promises to come back to her and to not leave another child without a father

- he promises to try his best and that he would never willingly leave her

- ms teach remarks on how he seems too young to be a father, but that hes done a good job with pretzel despite the circumstances

- pretzel and gillion have a very tearful goodbye, shes very upset abt having to stay behind and is rlly mad at him but hes firm and tells he that she has to stay there until he comes back, but that he will come back

- when they depart for the black sea, pretzel tidestrider is at the top of his list of loved ones, right beside edyn tidestrider

still thinking about my gillion headcanons....

he carries around some undersea plant that wards off evil and he gives pieces of it to jay and chip and ollie :) he gives a bunch to earl when he stays in all-port.

he flings a gold coin or two into the ocean to grant the albatross safe travels. he dedicates certain tasks like training to his goddess. he recites prayers before he sleeps and :) he sits by his alter and connects with the goddesses and tells them about everything that happened that day :D

salt water is like . cleansing. and he flicks it around when he feels like their evil amidst. whenever he thinks chip is lying he flicks it at him hehe

just like, random thoughts and stuff, mostly bits that i remembered

i sat down to write this i forgot everything oh my god--

in chip's flashback. the black rose pirates following the king to the big sakura tree, and arlin holding baby chip's hand. this. the cutest shit ever, i think i almost cried at the image of this big badass group of pirates and this itty bitty child led gently by his hand. even if i didn't cry before i sure will right now, baby chip you're so dear to me...

QUEEN! they didn't remember anything aughhhhh 😭😭😭😭 and their and chip's little talk about how they're going to put the pieces together :( and their hug :(

whatever drey, finn and earl are doing on the ship... like, what? hello? glad they're having fun tho lol. also wait hold on a second. how did drey answer the call? i mean, probably with his leg or something, if i had to guess. or maybe finn held it up for him. not sure if finn is at it enough to be able to answer the shell by himself, so earl and drey are the only ones who can actually use it. and seing how earl is in a... predicament. hm.

jay saying that when she looks at gillion she sees family. AUGHHHHHHHHHH AUGH AUGH OUGH jay ferin i love you. and this is so important to me not only because like hell yes they're more than friends they're a family, but also for jay of all people, considering her relationship with her blood tied family and how complicated her relationship with this word is.

also girl please do something about your leg, im begging you. the bone is visible, this shit is not going to heal up by itself. i dont know how you're still limping around this must hurt so bad. i guess adrenalin maybe, but still. at least get some bandages or something, i don't know... what is it with jay and her legs actually. she fell off a roof in edison kingdom and landed on a piece of metal that fucked up her leg, and now this.

oh my god niklaus, how could i forget about my babygirl. i mean, what can i say i love this guy. i dont know how many times ive relistened to his intro song, but definitely more than i should've... um. there was a lot of big important lore that i don't have the brain capacity to process rn.... i want to say that niki is the nameless prince and/or the thing trapped in the hole in the sea. because he can only interact with one person at a time by inviting them to his pocket dimension (even with jay it was said that the time around her stopped while she was talking with niklaus), implying that niki is trapped somewhere and this is the only constricted way he can interact with the world. and to answer chip's questions he said he wants freedom more than anything, again implying that right now he doesn't have this freedom. which makes sense, right? but then, the big bad thing was supposedly trapped thousands of years ago (i think?), but niklaus was a world famous pirate lord not so long ago and not trapped anywhere, so.....? idk im probably missing something. can't for the life of me find the moment where they read the nameless prince book so like, whatever.

that moment where jay talked to chip about how she thinks its all her fault and she should've just gave up her arm and leg. and how chip reassures her....... them 🥺🤲 kind of inspired by that post abt chip and jay i reblogged earlier, but these two talking about their emotions and feelings is so dear to me. just, being human with each other and opening up. gill is great ofc, but i feel like for these two its much easier to talk to each other to feel understood and heard. i love them.....

chip is still very much dead and probably won't be resurrected any time soon, so... hooray new undead chip design! but also oh my god my poor boy... forever 19... (also charlie and condi being surprised that chip is only 19. yeah </3) my poor guy my poor baby, he sounds so beaten and depressed in the beginning of the episode, its just breaking my heart qwq...

jay - anemo bow - self explanatory, gets a gun in burst

chip- pyro sword - can use dual swords, just have one be different than other. burst probably shoots a canon or smthn

gillion - electro claymore - burst reliant character that focuses on shielding other characters at cost of health

dakota- pyro catalyst - very hard to get out from the heizou vibe but there r so many types of martial arts so i feel like it can b different enough

vyncent - hydro polearm?? - changes between stances like childe - man i do not know his weapon but polearm seems fun

william - cryo catalyst - similar life suck mechanic to hu tao or xiao

AWESOME AWESOMEAWESOME i was also thinling anemo for jay!! i wasnt sure if i was on the right track there since i dont know much abt the lore implications of anemo but im glad u agree. i think shed be a charged shot fiend like ganyu to match the sureshot title ^_^ has a marking mechanic similar to childe that gives her bonus dmg on her ult (my version of hunters mark) and her ult is similar to dilucs in that it is a massive fucking bird like her zephyr strike. noo clue what her skill would be though

chip gave me sooo much trouble i think.god. riptide spoilers ahead i guess but his skill could turn his single sword to dual blades where one is entirely pyro similar to the blades he gets from rufus? i cant fully remember how they work though. mechanically its either be a set duration like xingqius rainswords or it could be a stance change like childe.burst i have absolutely nothing but i thought also about giving him a skill similar to rosarias that lets him teleport behind opponents since a) kaeya has teleportation bc of his abyss connections, chip has connections to the black sea, kinda similar there i think it would be a neat parallel, b) chip goes behind people fucking CONSTANTLY a large ampunt of his attacks are him attacking from the front then flipping over them to get their back too and c) literally in the mnm oneshot his power was teleportation. though i suppose that could just be in his na string like kaeya and still be cool

gillion electro IS SO COOL... i had him hydro since like its His Thing but i cant remember anythingg about the reasonings for electro visions so i wasnt sure if i could go for it. thank you also for reminding me the word claymore i can never remember it either. i had his skill down as similar to shinobus too (with elements of barbaras so it reduces incoming dmg too) but with a burst more like .. raidens skill? provides a damage buff to the active character along with dealing damage maybe and his healing would scale off attack

dakota i have said enough about but i really do think pyro catalyst maryial artist could be cool if i like. knew enough about heizous kit to make them different enough

vyncent i am at a LOSS for. most of my vision knowledge is about cryo and i know he isnt that. i had him as sword just because its the shortest range and the closest to a dagger?? stance change to archer is a must but i do also wanthim to be able to change to claymore? and even catalyst? but i cant mechanically come up with ANYTHING. maybe he just has unlimited stance changes with like. a 5 sec cooldown between shifts? that deals some dmg every time he shifts just automatically. i would like his ranger/archer form to have an infusion to make them similar to yoimiya because i think that would be cool but such is life. his burst would be different dependimg on what stance hes in when he casts it, sometimes its healimg sometimes its a buff field sometimes its pure dmg, etc

william cryo catalyst FOR REAL. a lifesteal mechanic is so fucking sick i didnt think of that before. i thought about him a lot i def think his wisp form would be his ult. his skill would be some sort of construct (ie ghostshaping) similar to something like albedo or zhomglis that deals damage and debuffs enemies while hes off field and then comes out for his burst. i think a life drain like xiaos would be coolest, he def does a lot of charged atks during his ult so incread atk speed is in there too + resistence to interruption and maybe even a shield?? like yanfeis c4

so many thoughts about mama and papa tidestrider now that we know a little more abt them (they're briefly mentioned in gill's character sheet) so have a collection:

knowing that falyn (gill's mom) is a fucking shark tamer actually makes total sense. who else would be batshit insane enough for their child to be born in the scenario gill was born in.

reed (gill's dad). is a florist. and im fully expecting him to be a giant nerd I can feel it in my bones. this man was raised by finn tidestrider. there's no way he isn't.

gillion's respect for nature doesn't come from the elders it comes from his parents I know it!!!!!! even if he doesn't have many memories of them I KNOW reed and falyn's jobs being so heavily based in nature influenced gill in some capacity!!!!!!!!!! with the added bonus of finn being The Biologist of the undersea,,, its them theyre the reason bc why would the elders care whether or not gill cared about nature

gillion looks more like falyn. edyn looks more like reed. I don't make the rules.

if/when we eventually get their canon designs I want falyn to be jacked and I will accept nothing less (bonus points if reed is just a silly guy. her lame husband that she hypes up.)

btw I just decided reed is trans. he named himself after the plant.

in personality, edyn is quite similar to falyn-- but edyn shares her more quiet nature with reed. both parents had very little influence on gillion.

reed has a massive garden at the house. he keeps plants everywhere inside.

VERY POG. love chip.

i didn't really like him at first, but after learning about his backstory and motifs and after all the changes he went through i like him a lot lot, he's so interesting to me, so alive.

chip has so many interesting themes and ideas and they're so consistent and clear, its just- augh. i think the one that absolutely breaks my heart is his selflessness and the amount of times he sacrificed something for his friends. especially because on the surface he looks like a covard that wouldn't think about risking his own skin over someone else's. but if its people he cares about - he will do everything in his power to keep them safe, and its so heartbreaking broooo.

like, the first time chip met lizzie and she told him about the war. the fact that it was lizzie, his old friend, his old family, asking to go against their mutual opresor, together. and he said no (!!!!!!), he said that he'll rather drop everything he's been fighting and living for, because he didn't want to put jay and gillion in danger, because he didn't want his friends to suffer and go through this, he was ready to leave everything, leave lizzie to her own devices, and just leave and go as far away as possible to protect them. SO. HEARTBREAKING. the fact that chip was acting so angsty around lizzie just because he wanted his friends to be safe.

that same arc actually-- signing the magical contract. talk about self sacrifice??? my guy risked signing his life away forever and ever just so his friends didn't have to. yes he had a plan, but he was fully ready to take the bullet for jay and gill, and he was fully ready to do it alone without even telling them.

edison's kingdom? giving away his finger to make a deal with a big shady guy, again biting the bullet for the whole team.

the entire goddamn price encounter????? he left, alone, didn't say anything to anyone, went into the base of a very dangerous guy, risked his life, almost lost his life. just so price wouldn't send more assassins after his friends. he went and dealt with this whole giant thing by himself.

the entirety of faywild that im not even gonna talk about because what the hell bro.

i know that all three of the gang have the theme of self sacrifice going for them, but chip's just hits different for some reason...

and for the character growth. just, to compare chip who was so into this idea of being a pirate, of what he remembered as a kid, to chip who takes responsibility and cares about his crew and makes decisions. damn. gill said that chip is finally becoming his own person and i agree with that. like, both visually and emotionally chip grows and becomes someone unique. he's not a boy from the black rose pirates anymore, he's chip, he's a captain of the riptide pirates, his own life and his own crew. and even if this whole plot with maps and treasure and stuff continues, it doesn't feel like chip is in the shadow of a lost legacy anymore, it doesn't feel like chip is chasing ghosts and is in denial. it feels like that's something that chip wants to do as a person, as himself.
