EARLY ACCESS IS IMMORAL [REVISED]
HERE'S WHAT I MEANT IN MY ORIGINAL POST:
This is a list of all the cc creators I'm following who partake in early access (not trying to shame anyone, I'm just doing this to demonstrate how small charges add up if everyone charges):
@aharris00britney
@arethabee
Candysims
@clumsyalienn
@dissiasims
@dogsill
@feralpoodles
@icy-spicy-scalpel
@isjao
Its-adrienpastel
@Littlebowblub
@oakiyo
OoOghostOoO
@qicc (Quirky Introvert CC)
@ravasheencc
@renorasims
@rustys-cc
@serenity-cc
@simancholy
@simcelebrity00
Simstrouble
@sondescent
@sunivaa
@trillyke
If you pay early access for all of these creators, you're paying AT LEAST $24/month.
However, a fair amount of people on this list charge $3-$5 for early access so the monthly total is usually more.
Again, not trying to paint anyone as the bad guy, I'm just trying to demonstrate how this adds up for consumers.
Given how expensive early access has become, it puts a lot of people in a tough spot. I can only speak from my own experience, but watching other people get to use certain CC pieces before me simply because they're in a better financial spot really fucking hurts. It makes me feel powerless and inferior and overall just really fucking sad. It sucks being reminded you're poor in a place that is supposed to be an escape from the real world.
This next point is incredibly specific to me, but I feel as though I should mention it anyways given I foolishly mentioned it in the last post.
I struggle with ASD, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, and Depression. Downloading CC is one of my compulsions. If I see a piece of cc I love, it becomes an intrusive thought that won't go away unless I download it. Because of this issue, I end up spending a lot of money I don't have on stuff that really shouldn't matter as much as it does. Again, this is definitely a "me" problem, but again, since I mentioned it in the last post I'm mentioning it here.
And for those of you saying "jUsT wAiT fOr ThE ReLeaSe DaTe" If it were that easy, I wouldn't be as upset as I am. It's almost impossible to wait 2 weeks/1 month with an intrusive thought.
HERE'S MY SOLUTION:
I AM NOT AGAINST CREATORS PROFITING OFF THEIR CREATIONS.
I know how much effort goes into making cc. I've made some stuff for my personal game and it's HARD. @ravasheencc also kindly pointed out to me how much time and money they personally spend to not only create cc, but to keep the old stuff up-to-date, so I'm not trying to minimize the work put in to create this stuff.
I HAVE TWO SUGGESTIONS:
1). Shorter Early Access Periods. Currently, the early access period ranges anywhere from 2 weeks to around 28 days. I personally think the early access period should be capped at 7 days. This is really subjective I know but that seems like a more reasonable amount of time (at least to me).
2). Another Way of Generating Income. Another suggestion I can think of would be to use something like adfly (preferably without the malware) that passively generates the creator income while also allowing everyone to access the cc at the same time. I'll do some research to find a specific program.
I don't have a concrete solution myself, I understand this is a complicated issue, but I think as a community we should be able to work out something that works for everyone involved.
Also, I have an entire page dedicated to shaming permapaywallers. So please don't use that as an argument.
