I impressed myself last night. My husband had been craving a lobster tail for like a week, but we were in no way able to go pay restaurant prices (not to mention a decent tip for our waiter). He was practically begging for it. So what was I to do but make it at home! I know lobster is crazy expensive, but I'd rather pay $10 a tail than $12 at a restaurant. Plus the cost of the rest of a meal which is absolutely ridiculous ($4 for a loaded baked potato that i can make for like $1.50).
So Sunday I did my shopping. I spent about $35 on everything I didn't already have at home (tho i could have spent less because some went to waste thanks to my kids). I got stuff for lobster tails, whitefish, green beans and asparagus, baked potatoes, and french onion soup. I had several things at home already (spices and condiments/toppings).
Next came the hard part of prepping and cooking. I have NEVER cooked a lobster and I'm a major novice to fish. So I just kinda winged it with the help of youtube. I found a written guide for the lobster and my friend gave me the tip that the more cooked it gets, the redder the shell turns. He was absolutely right, and it's amazing to watch! For the fish, I had to skin it myself. I was very intimidated and thought I'd totally screw it up. But... I totally killed it. The skin came off perfectly with only the smallest amount of meat lost on the tail end where I started. Here's the video tutorial I used:

Seriously, just do what she says with a sharp knife and it works!
I made a butter, lemmon, rosemary, and garlic sauce for the fish and baked it. I wish I'd had fresh rosemary, but dry worked just fine. I probably should've added a bit more garlic tho.
When all was said and done, we ended up with a restaurant quality meal for at least $15 less than what we would have paid in restaurant (plus saved on tip and kid's meals which drives our savings up another $25). My kids even ate the fish I made by dipping it in ketchup. It probably tasted like a chicken nugget to them. We also had leftover soup for another day.

Is there anything I would do differently next time? I'd probably cook the lobster a minute less and bake the beans and asaparagus. Otherwise, everything was amazing. In the future, we will plan expensive meals like this a little further in advace and maybe for more special occasions (valentine's, anniversaries, birthdays, etc). My husband had fun helping, and I actually had to ask HIM if the lobster was done because he eats it more than me. It tasted better than any I've ever had in a restaurant tho!
