not that its important in any way but i have once again made the dumb decision to stay up all night so i don’t oversleep and miss something important and now its almost 6am and i feel awful so now i face the decision of whether i go to sleep and hope i wake up in a few hours in time or if i just keep waiting and risk now being able to sleep for a really long time

VoLtrOn wHY
Wow. I'm finally watching Voltron for the first time, and... Like. In Season 3/4. The Musical Lions Arc? It SUCKS so much. Like, WHAT THE HECK?? Like... WHAAAAT? Lengthy rant incoming. SPOILER WARNING So, like, the show does this whole great arc in which, because Shiro is absent, Keith is forced to assume the mantle of leadership: a mantle he didn't really want. And of course, they have those couple episodes where he makes some big mistakes but eventually learns to A) accept his role and B) make more coolheaded decisions. BUT THEEEEEEEN Shiro waltzes back in and says "Okay, I'm back, but Keith's the leader now so I'll just help out." Which is fine. Great, actually. It had this undertone of passing the torch which I really liked. BUT THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN, during the next mission the team goes on (in "Tailing the Comet"), Shiro still acts like he's the leader. Keith says "Guys do this," and then Shiro is like, "No, don't be dumb, do THIS". He contradicts every order Keith gives. He backseat drives. But then at the end when Keith says (again) that he doesn't want to be the leader, Shiro says "Oh, no, I believe in you. That's why I spent the last fifteen minutes of this episode undermining every order you gave." The biggest kicker is that their disagreement stemmed from an argument where both sides were right. Keith wanted to take down Lotar's ship; Shiro wanted to destroy the wormhole machine thing. Both of these options were understandable. Honestly, since Keith ended up doing what Shiro wanted--and then had to bail the group out when the plan backfired with his quick reaction--I'm inclined to think Keith was the one in the right. And here's the thing. The show plays it off like Keith was OBVIOUSLY just being his old hotheaded self, bless his heart. Clearly. Obviously. And then Season 4 starts and they literally make the Keith the bad guy for wanting to do an ACTUAL MISSION instead of a parade. Like, I know Voltron is the Mockingjay archetype-symbol-of-hope-or-whatever but is a parade really, REALLY more important than an actual mission? I kept waiting for the show to pull a 180. When Shiro entered the black lion to reclaim control, I hoped--I PRAYED--that it wouldn't respond to him because he'd been an arrogant, self-important jerk lately and desperately needed some character development. But NOPE. Shiro is literally Jesus and never makes a single judgment error ever. And THEN I hoped that Keith would at least say something like, "You keep telling me to lead, but you aren't letting me!" Nope. Too much to ask apparently. And then when Keith says "The Paladins have their leader, I'm not needed." He just. Walks up. And hugs Shiro. As if Keith is apologizing. ...bwuh? Yes, I know Keith wasn't a perfect leader. Heck. I'm not gonna argue he was even a good one. But my issue doesn't arise from that. It comes from the fact that Keith is told by Shiro, "You have to lead these Paladins, it's your DUTY. Only you. Oh, but I'm actually the one giving the orders still. Lol." Like, I KNOW it's just a show, dude, chill out, but I was really enjoying it until this point, and like, now? I'm not really. Or at least, a show that I would have called great before this arc now I'll only call okay. Because I've never seen a show with such good writing elsewhere handle such an important character arc and relationship so poorly. Like, WHO WROTE THIS? Was it really the people who wrote the rest of the show? Okay. End rant. Sheesh, I can blabber. So... I'm new to the Voltron fandom. Like, three days old levels of new. Am I... coming outta left field, here? Or like, do most people agree that this was AWFUL. Because maybe I'm missing something or misreading the dynamic, but I haven't been this mad since... since... heck, ever. I've legit never been this mad about a show before. Oh, well. I'll still watch the show and read all the fanfic, so, who cares, right?
