My Hero ~ Lee Donghae

Your eyes snapped across the room as soon as you heard a laugh come from Donghae, watching as he typed away at his phone. He had no idea that you were watching him until he glanced up from his phone, the smile on his face still wide, eyes bright as he met yours which were full of confusion.

“You’ve got to see this,” Donghae told you as he stood up from where he was sat at the table in front of his laptop, walking around the room to get to you.

You shuffled along the sofa slightly to make room for Donghae as he held his phone out for you to take, noticing that he was at the top of a news article posted just an hour ago.

Your heart immediately raced as you began to scroll, especially as you noticed your name in the title. Yet, as you kept reading, you noticed exactly what had made the headlines with screengrabs of the latest Super Junior video posted of Donghae passing his jacket onto you.

“It seems that production caught the two of us in the background of their interview with Heechul on the set of the music video shoot,” Donghae laughed, “and the journalists are loving it too.”

Your head shook in disbelief as you scrolled all the way down to the bottom expecting some negativity, which never arrived. As you passed Donghae’s phone back across to him, you couldn’t understand what you had read, it was positive, for once.

“All I did was give you my coat because you were cold,” Donghae smirked, “and now all the entertainment papers are portraying me to be some sort of hero boyfriend.”

“How have you managed to make yourself look so good without meaning to be caught?”

Donghae’s shoulders shrugged as he glanced down at his phone as it vibrated, noticing a message come through in his group chat with the boys. You had no idea what it said, but as Donghae began to crack up again, you were pretty sure that you had a good idea.

After reading through, Donghae handed his phone to you again, allowing you to read through the messages that he was exchanging with all of the boys.

“Heechul’s not happy that we’ve ended up taking the attention away from him,” Donghae proudly grinned as he pointed to Heechul’s message on his phone, “he says next time he sees the two of us he’ll be sure to get some sort of revenge.”

After getting to the bottom of the chat, you handed Donghae his phone back once more as more messages came through, with the boys all impressed with how Donghae had subtly shown himself.

“You should read some of these, some of the comments are calling me perfect.”

Your eyes widened, refusing to believe Donghae until he showed you some of the comments, with several fans all expressing how jealous they were of you.

“I wish that Donghae gave my boyfriend tips on how to look after me,” you read through yet another one, scoffing underneath your breath.

You could tell as soon as you looked across at Donghae that he was enjoying the attention that he was getting from fans and journalists alike. The clip itself was only a few seconds long, with the two of you well hidden in the background, but his eagle-eyed fans had managed to clock the two of you perfectly together.

“Hyukjae wants me to post something about D and E,” Donghae soon laughed.

“Is promotion all he thinks about?”

Your eyes rolled at how typical it was of Hyukjae, encouraging Donghae to make the most of the attention he was getting to remind people of the two of them, earning himself plenty of complaints in the chat as the other seven wondered where their promotion was.

“I can’t believe you’ve managed to do this.”

“This is hilarious,” Donghae replied to you, “I mean I literally gave you my coat, some people are calling me Superman now.”

As happy as you were for the two of you to have a nice headline written about the two of you for a change, the smile on Donghae’s face soon began to get on your nerves. He was loving his role, mainly because for once he had the chance to tease the others for a change rather than allow them to tease Donghae.

“How long are you going to bang on about this at rehearsal tomorrow?”

Donghae’s eyes looked across to you as you spoke, “I will talk about nothing else and make sure that everyone at the company has read the article.”

“If one of them punch you tomorrow, it’s your fault.”

He couldn’t get enough of teasing the boys, showing you every single time when a frustrated message came through from one of the boys, which Donghae could joke in reply to you.

None of the boys could believe that their quiet member had managed to get the best headline out of all of them in sixteen years. For all the variety shows, and music show appearances they made, it was the simple act of giving a coat away that had given Donghae bragging rights over them.

“Do you think we could get this article printed actually?” Donghae asked you, “I want to give all of the boys their own copy tomorrow so that they don’t forget this.”

Your eyes could only roll at just how much Donghae was enjoying himself. “You know that they’ll get you back if you do anything like that. It already sounds like Heechul is on the verge of a breakdown having missed out on the attention because of you.”

He couldn’t take his eyes off of his phone screen, no matter how hard he tried. Donghae was obsessed with the article to say the least, basking in all the compliments that came his way and the praise that he was receiving for being such a good boyfriend to you.

“I guess I should feel lucky that I get to call superman my boyfriend,” you laughed across at him.

“You definitely should,” Donghae immediately agreed, “there are hundreds of fans in the comments right now wishing that they were in your shoes and wishing that they were able to get given my jacket from me.”

Your head shook as Donghae scrolled through some of the comments once again, reading out his favourites. Each comment that he read made him smugger and smugger, never seeing him as confident as he was right now.

To be recognised for being such a good boyfriend meant the world to Donghae, touched to have proven to everyone just how much he cared about you.

“I think from now on you should just tell everyone that I’m your hero,” Donghae suggested, “it seems to be what the article implies after all.”

“There is no way that I am introducing you as my hero.”

A loud intake of breath came from him, “if it wasn’t for me you would have been freezing cold during that shoot, but I came and saved you from the cold.”

“You gave me your coat,” you laughed, “I’m pretty sure that if I’d asked any of the boys for their coat, they would have said yes.”

“Just admit that I’m your hero,” Donghae teased, “there’s no need to be shy about it, we all need rescuing sometimes.”

Your head shook, “you’re enjoying this far too much, look at your smile.”

“Let me have my moment Y/N!”
