At the midpoint of summer, the tomato, star of earth, recurrent and fertile star, displays its convolutions, its canals, its remarkable amplitude and abundance, no pit, no husk, no leaves or thorns, the tomato offers its gift of fiery color and cool completeness. Pablo Neruda * Tomatoes are still hanging around my farmers market! I made tons of soups, with roasted or fresh tomatoes, salads, caprese and other goodies with them. All before we go into the deep autumn and winter. I don't know how it happens, even though we're still in August, I already feel the month of September knocking, feel its colors, perfumes, flavors. In the kitchen there are two bunches of concord grapes, which is the perfume par excellence that I associate with the month of September. I want to make grape jam to capture the scent. But back to the tomatoes. For dinner tonight I made a mint tomato soup with feta and fried bread polpette. A light soup. No cream added. Only olive oil, tomatoes, salt, mint and basil. Not even water.
