Hi, thanks so much for the update! No need to apologize, I should actually be the one apologizing because I forgot a couple of details from your prompt halfway through and it ended up a tiny bit different from what you requested;;; hope you enjoy nevertheless and if this isn’t what you were looking for, feel free to re-request! (Also, while I'll be happy to do this request since you specified a preference for Tamaki, please do keep in mind next time that our rules state we only take one character per request for scenarios ^^;;)

Portraits (Tamaki/artist!reader)

Pages and pages. Tamaki resists the urge to turn them over, bites down on the tingling in his fingers. This is your privacy and he’s not about to intrude on it. But there it is, the sketchbook lying open on your desk, colorful drawings of butterflies dancing across the paper in pink and blue and orange, purple and mauve. You’re not here, gone downstairs to get a snack, and he’s alone in the room with the sketchbook- which just happened to be open. He’s not sure what to do.

In the end, he finds himself at the desk, fingers tracing the butterflies. Wings, legs, antennae. Detailed down to the smallest curves and kinks. He hasn’t ever asked, really, what kind of things you like to draw- assumed it was your business and none of his- and this is new. He’s always known you were a good artist, but not this good. And every slight smudge and wrinkle on the paper speaks to the care put into these drawings. He can imagine you right now, hunched over this desk, your hands colored rainbow from art supplies as you scrunch your brow, focused on a pattern in a tiny 2D wing. The thought brings a smile to his lips. “Tamaki, I- oh!” He starts guiltily. You’re standing in the doorway, a tray of cookies in your hands, eyes fixed on him and your sketchbook and looking decidedly flustered. Caught. Tamaki flushes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t...I didn’t mean to pry.” Luckily, you laugh, rubbing the back of your neck sheepishly as you set the tray down. “You weren’t prying, silly. I was just surprised, is all...do you want to see the other pictures?” Shyly, you hand him the sketchbook, and he takes it gingerly. His hands feel a little sweaty as he starts flipping through the pages. He hopes he’s not leaving marks. Your artwork is gorgeous- so many different subjects, some in monochrome, some in full color. At some point he arrives at sketches of people he knows. There’s Mirio, grinning brightly from the pages, Nejire posing like a model, All Might having a coffee, Aizawa-sensei slumped over his desk. He flips through pages and pages of familiar faces, even self-portraits. It’s beautiful, all of it, like an album full of stolen moments. By the time he’s gone through the whole sketchbook, he realizes with a jolt that the only person really missing from its pages is...himself. He hands the artwork back to you with still-sweaty hands, mind going a mile a minute, wondering why, because he’s...well, he’s your boyfriend, isn’t he? Why is he missing from a collection that features every other person in your social circle? His hands are getting sweatier as he thinks about it and his tongue feels a little heavy as he stammers out compliments for your work, even though he’s probably, definitely, overthinking it... And then you’re suddenly producing a notepad from your desk drawer and handing it to him. For some reason, you seem embarrassed. “Since I showed you everything else, I figured why not?” He takes it and opens it and...oh. “I was kind of...I wanted to show it to you earlier but I didn’t know if you would like it? I just kind of. Thought you might think it’s creepy or something. Maybe you really do think it’s creepy? I’m kind of...I don’t know. There are just moments when I wanted to use you as a model because you’re the best person I know and I love drawing you...” The pages are filled with him. Him sleeping on your bed. Him with a butterfly on his finger. His side profile; him smiling out at the viewer. And Tamaki has never thought of himself as a beautiful person in any way, shape, or form, but in your pictures, somehow, he fairly glows. “I love it.” You stop in the middle of your rambling, staring at him with wide eyes, and he smiles, feeling himself turn redder than before. “I love it,” he repeats, and you smile back, your whole face lighting up as you throw your arms around him. “I’m so glad you do!”
