Absolutely agree on the subtle kinship between the male characters on Welcome! Jae sun is such a lad for doing his best to tolerate and cover up for the weird phenomenon that is hongjo the humanoid cat person xD I so wish we could get more scenes of jaesun and dooshik but that wouldn't have been possible in the earlier episodes when jae sun seemingly had one personality trait. Anyways, i'm rambling. Love your mini reviews!
im so glad you think so too and i agree re: jae seon/do sik hehe i also actually think it would’ve been fun to see the writers play with the hong jo/do sik dynamic bc they’re both dumb in their own ways and just seeing them bumble around and be friends would’ve been so cute!! imagine the sheer stupidity exercised between them both

The way i see it is that Jae seon and sol-ah won't be end game purely because its myungsoo and yeeun on the poster😂If they miraculously reconciled in part of hongjo the humanoid creep's rapid age plot-line, that would be the biggest uno reverse card in history. LOL. And i would give mad props to kbs. But it seems to taking the stereotypical romance drama trajectory so. Also how she managed to shelf 10 years of feelings for jae seon because of some surface level advice from hongjo? loool.
I have been burnt/surprised when second leads/ppl not on the poster ended up in the main otp but that was mostly for family dramas where the writing likely was more victim to fan reactions than for 16 ep romcoms.  In two of the dramas I watched the otp itself wasn’t even end game and the shows ended without an OTP!!
omg I forgot about the rapid aging thing.  Maybe when hong jo dies jae seon and sol ah can get together LOL!

Totally with you on hongjo not having a personality! Their entire relationship is built on this sense of codependence and it's borderline unhealthy. I'm not gonna go ~full psych major~ on the show, because i dont think it ever intended to spur sweeping fan theories and character analysis. But yeah, this whole "he gets me" narrative is so stupid because the audience knows that he's just found a way to be omnipresent in every aspect of your life? I like myungsoo and all, but what a creepy role.
Exactly! I know it’s not that deep, it’s just a quirky lighthearted romcom, but these aspects are so hard to ignore. You can go simple and quirky without crossing the line. But so far everything is so damn creepy, like they cover it with jokes and laughs, but that convo about Hong Jo sneaking under the covers was sooooo disturbing. No wonder Jae Son was so scandalized lol
Tumblr media
Speaking of Jae Son. It would have been such an amazing drama if they had gone with Hong Jo helping with the misunderstanding between Sol Ah and Jae Son and them finding the way to each other and getting together. Like he still could be in love with her and stuff but eventually just choosing to move aside and bring happiness to the people who saved him.
And yeah, Myungsoo better to play a human being who doesn’t wear white all the time

i so hope that jae sun and sol ah will be endgame! but that's probably only plausible in an alternate universe lol. jihoon and yeeun have sooooo much chemistry, and if the timeline of their friendship/pseudo relationship (?) wasn't riddled with so many misunderstandings + if he had just opened up just a SMIDGEN, they would have the foundation of something potentially rly beautiful and meaningful. Also myungsoo & yeeun have no chemistry so, none of their romance translates imo 💁just my hot take
Yeah, myung soo and ye eun don’t have that much chemistry and that kiss scene was like ???
I mean at times jae seon rly seems like a second lead (first love, jealousy) but at times it seems like the cat human (idk what to call him?? hong jo the human?) is second lead - just serving to clear up the misunderstanding and bring them back together.  I mean the cat human even dropped ji eun’s eraser into doo sik’s bag, playing a similar cupid-y role? And like the way sol ah confides in the cat, the cat really seems like a second lead (ugh can’t believe I just said a cat is a second lead lmao 😅)
I have to say the bromance between the cat human and jae seon is kind of cute but when u think about why they’re in that situation it’s not so cute anymore 😥 I mean sol ah deserves to be protected but the cat human?? what has he done to deserve sol ah?? She even bought him a cell phone and signed as guarantor??
Idk how this next episode will go with bang guk bong showing up at the stepmother’s house (also why does the dad only communicate with sol ah through the stepmother? sooo cat-like lol).  I hope the cat human gets caught in the lie!!
I feel like it’s not unreasonable for the viewers to expect a jae seon/sol ah endgame and the writers know that but like u said, only in an alternate universe 😭😭😭
p.s. we need more of the cat in the next ep or i’ll riot lmao

This whole "he gets me" narrative is only because he's a creep who's managed to be omnipresent in all aspects of your life -, he eavesdrops, he shape shifts and eavesdrops, and the sleeping under the covers thing is unwarranted too. I know the show isn't supposed to be interpreted that deeply, but it's promoting a highly unhealthy level of codependence. He exists solely because of her, and without her, he's seemingly devoid of purpose. LOL how is that romantic.
omg you are so right - he doesn’t rly get her, he just literally hears what she’s saying when he’s a cat lmao.  btw as an aside i’m having flashbacks to when do kyung eavesdropped on hae young in another oh hae young grrr
I don’t mind the sleeping under the covers things but it does bring up issues abt consent imo
Plus the joke abt neutering was hilarious but hi how can you have a show against cat hoarding but also be kind of subtly anti-neutering or like, making light of neutering?
*sigh* this show is so problematic but I can’t stop watching lmao

Ok maybe not so much confronting the abandonment issues just more of an exploration? How complicated is his relationship with his father? Who was the ex? But with 4 episodes left and with majority of episode 9 being about themOooOo we're in a different location~ He's gonna be villainized because he rips the collar he made for hongjo off him man idk i'm spiralling again i wish jihoon would stop getting shoehorned into roles like this >
I always have to remind myself that this show was never intended to spur big dramatic think pieces + character analysis pieces.. but i think what seo ji hoon brought forth the first few episodes lay a really great foundation for something potentially rly meaningful. Too bad they ran that to the ground + he's being made to play the whole inferiority complex/jealousy thing (sooo out of character btw) for laughs. His chemistry with yeeun is too good to be book-shelved too lmao. ahh i'm sad
i hope he’s not villainized and the previews are just being dramatic bc ;; he does deserve better for sure. yeah i knowww the fact that’s it’s a 12 episode show and most of the focus is on myungsoo’s character, it’s hard but they definitely have the space to do it, at least touch on it. the least they can do is keep it lighthearted and not give him the short end of the stick....but you’re right he does have good chemistry with yeeun it just.....love triangles man. lmao i hate them so much

Ya i wonder how the drama got green lit in lieu of all its plot holes and creepy undertones. On top of them retconning Jae Seon with this erratic hype-fixation on getting sol ah back(??), i dont think anyone really appreciates jihoon and yeeun's chemistry. I know it's based on a webtoon so it's going to loosely follow its source material, but Seo ji hoon brings forth something so palpable and real in the repressed longing he has for sol ah -
And it's such a shame that sol ah has become so astute in pursuing the person who not only is a fucking cat, but who she believes is her stepbrother??? vom
Srsly, Jae Seon is real male lead material, even within this drama, you just can’t help but wonder if it was a mistake that Hong Jo is the lead. I mean he’s a man with a tragic background and tortured soul who made mistakes in communicating with people but didn’t turn into an asshole? There’s conflict, there’s room for development. That’s an amazing material to work on. But making out with your cat is so much more fun.
That switch was so unnatural and rushed, and came out of nowhere. Like is it cat magic? Hong Jo tod her to let Jae Seon go and she didn’t immediately after 10 years of longing and being in love with him? Just because some weird dude who magically appears and disappears in your house said so? Okay
And I always forget about the stepbrother aspect, yikes

Thanks for being so receptive and nice! 😊I could talk about Jae Seon all day tbh. majorly confused about his characterisation the past 2 episodes - mans got retconned so badly LOL I'd rather him experience some personal growth by confronting his abandonment issues instead of him just suddenly being hyperfixed on getting sol ah back. Low key makes me miss the pensive and elusive Jae Seon lol. Just me? ok
omg same his characterization is really erratic, one moment he’s worried to death about hong jo and the next he wants so badly to sabotage him. not to mention that his sudden insistence to be devotedly by sol ah’s side also seems really inconsistent from the established aloof narrative they had for him
i totally agree re: personal growth by confronting abandonment issues. like of course this is a romcom and it makes sense that as a secondary character his own role revolves around sol ah but it would be nice to unpack some of that backstory. also the fact that my man literally opened up a new business? but it only serves as a backdrop to hong jo’s $$$ LMAO tbh the only jae seon i care about is the one where he’s looking after hong jo....he has such a soft spot for him i hope we get to see more of that
