Reposted from @ancientegyptianjewellery #Repost @ancientegyptianjewellery • • • • • • Goddess Bastet Bastet was a goddess in ancient Egyptian religion, worshiped as early as the Second Dynasty (2890 BC). As Bast, she was the goddess of warfare in Lower Egypt, the Nile River delta region, before the unification of the cultures of ancient Egypt. Her name is also spelled Baast, Ubaste, and Baset.[1] The two uniting cultures had deities that shared similar roles and usually the same imagery. In Upper Egypt, Sekhmet was the parallel warrior lioness deity to Bast. Often similar deities merged into one with the unification, but that did not occur with these deities with such strong roots in their cultures. Instead, these goddesses began to diverge. During the Twenty-Second Dynasty (c. 945–715 BC), Bast had changed from a lioness warrior deity into a major protector deity represented as a cat.[2] Bastet, the name associated with this later identity, is the name commonly used by scholars today to refer to this deity. #Tutankhamun. #BritishMuseum #egyptianmuseum #MuseumFromHome #bkmegyptianart #ancientring #Egypt #AncientEgyptian #JewelryAncientEgyptian #Jewelleryancientegyptian #ringsancientegyptian #scarabsrings #scarabs  #newkingdom #jewellerybloger #instajewelry #egyptological #egyptianjewelry #tutankhamón #18Dynasty #newkingdom #metmuseumofart https://www.instagram.com/p/CS03rs3sLys/?utm_medium=tumblr

Corselet of Tutankhamun This combined corselet, collar, and pectoral, is a magnificent piece of jewelry considered to be a royal and official article of clothing, depicted in relief and sculpture throughout the Egyptian history. In the New Kingdom, this corselet appears especially in divine portrayal, decorated with feather patterns and always worn with the short, close-fitting kilt. Tutankhamun’s corselet is made of two rectangles of stylized feathers, divided into rows of alternating blue turquoise, lapis lazuli, golden chevrons, or inverted V’s, and triangles of red glass. The front of the collar depicts the king before Amun, lord of Karnak; Atum, the god of creation in Heliopolis; and the vulture-headed goddess Iusaaset, wearing the double crown and extending reeds of millions of years to the king. Serving as counterpoise, on the rear of the collar is a similar pendant, composed of a scarab, flanked by two uraei, or cobras. From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, West Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Amulet of Ptah in a Gold Shrine The amulet represents Ptah, patron deity of the artists, wearing a straight beard and an unusual headdress of a sun disc and feathers reminiscent of the composite, primordial, creator god Ptah-Tatenen. His hands emerge from the shroud to hold the djed pillar, the emblem of the god Osiris; the feet do not exist any more. This lapis lazuli figure of Ptah is set within a superbly decorated gold shrine with a suspension loop on the roof, so that the piece could be worn like an amulet. Each side of the shrine is decorated with a double pair of gold falcons with solar discs on their heads, standing on papyrus columns. The outer walls of the shrine are covered with a mass of reliefs representing many squatting deities in pairs, six per side, and two per row. Jar Cover with Fledgling and Unhatched Eggs A decorative lid or cover from a vessel in the form of a nest containing four eggs and a gosling. Calcite and painted ivory. The symbolism of the newly batched fledgling is employed in this objects perhaps to represent the inevitability of rebirth for the various spirits of the deceased king. Four eggs, suggestive of the completeness of creation, enhance the single young bird and create a naturalistic setting; presumably a vestige of the nature motifs of the earlier Amarna style in which similar devices seem to have represented the fullness of the created world under the control of pharaoh. From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62). Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
