Alice calls it a ritual, but Johnny doesn’t think there’s anything reverent about it.  Sometimes he stands at the edge of his ability to cope and looks around for a way to hang on.  Usually it involves finding someone to fuck him up.  That's a habit, sure, but he's always thought rituals involved candles and uncomfortable shoes.

She suggests that maybe he should be uncomfortable with hurting himself. That the ritual of it is seeking comfort, not the pain itself.

"That's dumb. I've got people who'd comfort me or whatever."

She grins.

A whole bunch of shit happened around her, and Joni went along with all of it.  They dropped Jessica off, and Mr. Miyagi potted the tree, trying to save it.  He told Daniel he’d sold his truck.  Things moved, people, places changed, and Joni tagged along in the background without really knowing or caring where she was.  She was only hanging around until Daniel finally said something, anyway.  She knew he was going to, and she wasn’t going to avoid it like a coward.

He wants to climb the beanstalk and slay the giant.  That damn face, looming over him every day.  It's been a curse on his life since he was a kid, too stupid to see the spell being cast.

The ladder into the sky shakes with every passing car.  The twisted rebar seems slick and hard to grasp.  He swings out, one foot and five fingers between him and a fall back to reality.

He's only got a vague recollection of triumph the next day.  Jack (Daniels), and the yellow spray paint that brought down a giant pain in his ass.

Someone just casually dropped "I still think we could see a Johnny and Carmen baby in the future" in the middle of another post, and I am WRECKED. The idea gives me hives.

To quote JVN, "Just because AmeriCAN doesn't mean AmeriSHOULD." And they were obviously talking about Johnny Lawrence fathering another child.

(No shade to the person who said this, obviously. We all have our own headcanon, and I don't think you're -wrong- or anything. I just think it's a terrible, terrible idea. Which probably means the writers will run with it. GET OUT NOW, CARMEN. Don't let him babytrap you!)

Johnny only sees Alice once a week now– sometimes he sees Robby more than her.

There's things he needs to do, wants to do, and things he can do. Today there's a brick wall between them, and he's too tired to climb it again.  Nothing he does makes the world different, so it won't miss him if he isn't there.

Amanda finds him hiding in the guest room and climbs in with him.  They watch a baking show while he makes himself eat the sandwich she brought.

Brick by brick, the wall comes down.  Tomorrow he'll be able to climb it.

All stories are on AO3, and each is carefully tagged. My style is very much character-driven angst, with a side of "Oh gawd, why am I laughing at this?" So you know, kind of like life.
