Kärma Sounds - Cake And Eat It (Soul | R&B)
Tumblr media
The Vancouver sensation who is popularly known as Karina Mori in close circles has managed to do what Kärma Sounds does. The social statement of her latest single, “Getting Better,” is a melodic manifesto that radiates empathy and strength. Kärma Sounds, in partnership with Pranam "Chin" Injeti—a multi-award-winning producer—was able to collect and create a soundtrack that is immortalized by time itself. Injeti is a master at music production, which augments Kärma’s evident vocality in "Getting Better". However, following the path of Kärma’s musical life takes us back to her first hit song “Let’s Stay Home Tonight.” This debut single conquered Canadian radio airwaves and established her in music. However, the roots of her music ability were planted much earlier. Having been brought up in a home where jazz, funk and soul were more than just music genres but emotions; her father’s musical passions influenced the very foundations of his artistic consciousness. https://youtu.be/jEOHIi_pDaU These elements coalesce in her music today, fusing smooth R&B with the tones of electro-soul beats. This is when Kärma blossoms—her live performances. She establishes a tone so personal that it seems like the conversation between buddies, is backdropped with emotional melodic compositions. "Getting Better" rises from Kärma’s experiences where she meets single mothers in a local shelter, mirroring their resilience and daily struggles. The song reflects her efforts to bring the marginalized in our society into the limelight. The track is a soul-rich combination of the R&B and modern genres that presents thoughtful yet socially relevant storylines. However, what makes Kärma Sounds unique is her voice. It is not just a medium through which her message passes, but an instrument in itself. Her voice is sensuous, almost material warmth that envelops you in her world where every note speaks to a story. [caption id="attachment_12412" align="alignnone" width="1080"] Canadian Songbird Kärma Sounds Craft An Anthem For Social Awareness Titled "Getting Better"[/caption] Kärma Sounds is characterized by her realness and one–of–a–kind sound, in a world filled with drifting trends and wavering sounds. Through her music, she doesn’t only resemble the impacts of icons like Sade, Chaka Khan and Prince; it develops their practice of making a trip which is nostalgic yet produces parlance. “Getting Better” is movement, a moment and a message all in harmony. However, the music community has in Kärma Sounds not only a singer but also someone who tells stories – whispers to souls through their universal language of empathy and resilience. https://open.spotify.com/album/1Mshwh8ENyRXBI8RmxdMnc?si=63hOLNdFSWCP7MjgUciGcw

It was actually my partner in crime, music and life - Karlo who came up with it! It has similar letters to my given name (Karina M) and I’ve always had a deep interest in healing modalities like energy healing and crystal therapy, so the name resonated perfectly. Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration in movies, certain interesting lines of text I hear that strike me, honest conversations and listening to new and old music. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? I started singing before I could talk and according to my dad, I was always on pitch! I got selected to sing in school productions and in high school I played sax and my music teacher encouraged me to sing at the year end concerts. After high school I sang with a girl group and we had our song play on radio stations across North America. Sadly the band later broke up and I toured across Europe singing backups for French singer Corneille . I then enrolled in performance arts college and the rest is history … Are you from a musical or artistic family? Music has always been part of my DNA. My father was a musician and exposed me to soul, funk and jazz music my entire childhood. I recently found out on my mothers side, my great uncle was a Torah singer. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? My parents are my biggest supporters But I’ve always dreamed of being a part of it because It’s something that has always been a part of me . How did you learn to sing/write/to play? I would say I’m self taught for the most part. Lots of practice to a point of obsession in my early years. What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? Growing up in Montreal , I was lucky to have attended the Montreal International Jazz Festival every summer and I saw numerous talented acts.. Off the top of my head, Holly Cole and Diana Krall. How could you describe your music? My music is a culmination of all the music I loved to listening to growing up. It’s a fusion of soul, electro-pop, RnB, funk, disco and a touch of jazz inflection [caption id="attachment_52446" align="alignnone" width="498"] My music is a culmination of all the music I loved to listening to growing up[/caption] Describe your creative process. I usually collaborate with other musicians and when I hear certain chords that I gravitate to, it inspires me to sing a melody on top. From there a mood or story starts to form, sometimes it’s quite abstract, but it’s a process of uncovering until I hear words that jump out, that’s is where the magic happens!
What musician do you admire most and why? My all time favorite artist is SADE. Her music and lyrics are timeless and beloved across the globe. It’s sensual and has a good groove. Plus She’s has an enigmatic aura and is a true class act. These days my favorite artist is Jessie Ware, I adore her style & her voice. Uk soul always hits me. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? Yes a bit, it depends on who I collaborate with, but I tend to come back to the same sound in the end! Who do you see as your main competitor? Hard to say… I don’t really want to be in competition with others. Everyone has their own unique spice and I just want to be appreciated for what I bring to the table. What are your interests outside of music? I love spending time with my partner, my family and friends when I’m not performing. I like to do the simple things like cooking or taking a walk at the beach. I love to travel and experience other cultures and food, and I enjoy yoga & Pilates and skiing in the winter. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? I would be doing something creative like wardrobe styling or graphics arts What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? For many years it’s been a ‘boys club’ with big barriers of entry past the gate keepers… but Things have been evolving and improving since the rise of steaming and social media. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? Artists & songwriters need to be paid fairly for their work. https://open.spotify.com/artist/2WHynZFrcbWc3oRxykl7mD?si=XJtGT1UpTj2TXfBN4QsPRA What are your plans for the coming months? I’m planning on releasing more singles leading up to my ep/album release in the new year. I’m looking forward to performing my live show with my 6 piace band on a stage near you! Do you have any artistic collaboration plans No set plans at the moment, I definitely foresee some wonderful collaborations in the future, so I’m putting that energy out there in the universe… I’m always open to collaborating with artists that resonate! What message would you like to give to your fans? Huge gratitude for their support! I love and appreciate every one of them!

SINNING SAINTS AND SAINTLY SINNERS
If in North America the likelihood of purchasing a luxury product is much higher after the shopper has purchased an eco-friendly product beforehand, that logic is reversed in South-East Asia – there, purchasing an eco-friendly product elevates the likelihood of buying another one. [1]
Tumblr media
(Artwork: Olav Maran, Grimaces of the 20th Century, 1965)
  Another example.
Study participants are asked to agree or disagree with the following sexist statements:
Some/Most women are better off at home taking care of the children.
Men are more emotionally suited for politics than are some/most women.
The best job for some/most women is something like cook, nurse, or teacher.
Some/Most women need a man to protect them.
Some/Most women are not really smart.
Half of the participants received statements with somein the wording, half received statements with most in the wording.
Later, the participants were asked to judge whether a man or a woman was better suited to a traditionally male occupation and company. The researchers Monin and Miller showed that individuals who signaled their egalitarianism by disagreeing with sexist statements were subsequently more likely to recommend a man for a traditionally male job. They argued that disagreeing with sexist statements helped allay individuals’ concerns that their subsequent actions might be interpreted as morally questionable, thereby licensing their discriminatory behavior. [2]
 Third example.
Study participants were asked to write a story about themselves using positive words. Caring, generous, kind – those participants asked to use positive words were much less likely, indeed, five times less likely, to donate to a charity after writing the story. Those writing a story about themselves with words such as disloyal, greedy, mean, donated much more generously after the negative words threatened their self-image as a good human being. [3]
Acts that cannot realistically be reconciled manage to be pressed into conguency in our fascinating minds. After a seemingly selfless act, we are quite likely to dive into the morally questionable.
What are your experiences with moral licencing? Have you noticed justifying negative decisions with having made a positive one beforehand? Have you engaged in moral cleansing - trying to clean up your dirt with a good act after the guilt hit?

Kärma Sounds - Getting Better (Indie Pop | R&B)
Tumblr media

The rest of the world knows Karina Morin as Kärma Sounds. She is currently working on a story that is both up-to-date and soulfully nostalgic while living in the heart of Vancouver's bustling music scene. There is something about her music that makes it feel both new and oddly familiar at the same time. This artist's newest song, "Mysterious," is an outstanding representation of her unique mix. It's an enticing song for people who like soul, funk, and dance right now because it starts with funk disco beats and tells beautiful, captivating stories all the way through. There are multiple hints from Kärma Sounds that they have a lot of respect for music. This suggests that they have been connected to the industry for a long time. When she was little, her father, who was an outstanding musician, would play her music that had jazz, funk, and soul in it. This went on all through her childhood. She discovered not long ago that her great-uncle on her mom's side was a Torah singer and that this was something that was passed down to her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6FkshcBKZY Lots of different artists, like Sade, Chaka Khan, The Eurythmics, Fleetwood Mac, and Norah Jones, have influenced Kärma. There are electro-pop elements in her score that are similar to those of Jesse Ware and Kali Uchis. It also has a beautiful and honed melody. Her voice is without a question one of the best things about her. It has a sensual beat that flows within the listener and drags them into the ambience she makes. It sounds like a mix of Daft Punk and Sade's music, with vocoder recognises and funky rhythms adding to the sound. [caption id="attachment_12024" align="alignnone" width="800"] Vancouver's Kärma Sounds Melds Generations In Song with 'Mysterious'[/caption] Even more so than the songs, "Mysterious" tells a story that makes you feel things. That's how the story goes: the souls of two people meet by chance, and the enchantment of a first look is captured. Kärma Sounds says it's a brief but lasting moment when it seems like time has stopped and the whole world is lost in an embrace that goes beyond all periods. Kärma's multiple abilities are displayed in the song "Mysterious," which mixes soul music, funk music, disco music, and dance music into a unique but generally accessible melody. This is a big step in her always-evolving artistic career, and it shows how well she can mix different types of art. Along with her music, Kärma Sounds stands out in a world that is desperate for real talent. Her stories are also what makes her stand out; they are honest and move people. If you listen to her song "Mysterious," she will take you on a musical trip that will be both difficult and beautiful. https://open.spotify.com/album/3m1OGIq5foEzdpEDmvnvj9?si=04h8PsseSeeNuzHqdkboUg

Kärma Sounds - Let's Stay Home Tonight (Indie Pop | R&B)
Tumblr media
