TODAY I LEARNED??!??!?!
I've seen people talk about Barius and Viren as well as Rayla and Opeli but omg Harrow and Karim too
Shout-out to Luc Roderique and the TDP cast in general. I'm never ready for characters with such different voices to come from the same person I'm always surprised Pikachu abt it

I’m sorry- I’ve just learned that Queen Aditi x Kim’dael is a ship that exists and just the idea that Kim’dael has a bitchy bitter exes thing going on with Janai’s great grandmother, who seems to be a big shot, generally regarded as one of the best rulers Lux Aurea had, but like- No one talks about it cause the entire royal court of Lux Aurea just could not physically fathom it or they trashed all records of their Queen’s God awful taste in women after she died like “It’s what she would have wanted.” Has so much comedic potential to me.
-
Janai: Your anger and cunning keeps you warm, for now, blood moon huntress. But it will leave cold in your grave.
Kim’dael, still holding her nails to Janai’s neck: An excellent point, your radiance. However, unfortunately, I fucked Your great grand mother- so, your argument is invalid.
-
Karim: *Going on about “true” justice and glory for Lux Aurea*
Kim’dael: Oh, my fuck! Stop talking, I don’t care! You sound like your great grandmother after three too many shots of moonshadow elf vodka!
-
Kim’dael, silently looks over the state of Lux Aurea: …
Kim’dael, under her breath: Fuckin’ take that, Aditi!
Karim: What was that?
Kim’dael: Nothing, what about this plan to kidnap your sister?

It’s kinda hilarious how Karim is all mad about Amaya and Janai going off on a “romantic picnic!” and then the first thing they talk about is Janai asking “How can I lead when I’m filled with doubt and should I abdicate my throne?” Like yeah okay it does also end up being romantic but the contrast between what Karim thinks they’re doing vs what they’re actually doing is so interesting

History demands nothing!  I make history, it does not make me. Our past is behind us, and I will build a brighter future for our people than you can possibly imagine.
*looks at Amaya* And it will be beautiful.
Can I aplaud the writers for this dialog pls.
What a powerful quote.

Karim really heard “I lost my hope long before I lost my sight” and went “we should betray my sister so we can get his sight back :)”

“At least Karim would lead the people with some sense of certainty . . .” I think it’s really interesting that Janai focused so much on Karim’s certainty in this quote back in season four, while she was agonising over whether or not to fully embrace being queen, because yes, Karim is much more certain and decisive than his sister, but we see that is actually its own weakness. While Janai often hesitates and deliberates (I loved her not being able to choose out of just two flower options, and Amaya’s exasperation; that was funny and cute) that also means that she looks deeper, thinks longer, and more often comes to better conclusions than Karim, who often just confidently charges into the wrong decisions. It feeds into this thing with the sun seed, where Janai has the patience to wait for it to grow (a metaphor for guiding her people into a new era, a different world, a more accepting world) even if it will take multiple lifetimes, and Karim does not. He takes short cuts. He cuts corners. He makes sketchy deals with forces he doesn’t understand or fully control. He might have led the people with certainty, but to no good end. Janai’s thoughtfulness is ultimately a greater strength than Karim’s certainty

janai: *DOESN'T kill the person who made a mistake, feels remorsed and apologizes, but instead sets that person free, after punishing them in an appropriate way, so they can learn on their mistake while helping to fix what was broken*
karim: okay, that's IT. i can't believe i'm the only one who can see my sister is going to be a BAD QUEEN

I love how it’s the moment where Janai shows her wisdom and compassion as a leader (asking restitution of the architect in building a shrine rather than punishment in death) that her brother looses faith in her. It’s such good writing. Karim and Janai play out the theme of history as a narrative of strength vs love this season, with Karim representing strength as power, traditional and unyielding, and Janai representing strength as love and compassion. Amaya, Janai’s lover, calls for mercy. Karim, Janai’s brother, calls for vengeance. Janai walks a careful line, choosing mercy while still exacting justice. But Karim only sees weakness, only sees it as Janai turning her back on their ways. So this scene plays out the quote from season 2: “these moments of purest strength appear as weakness to those who don’t know better.” All Karim sees is weakness, because he doesn’t know better. But it is in this moment that Janai really begins to come into her own and shows the world what kind of queen she will be

This is actually funny because, rather than being a moment of contrast, it's yet another great parallel between Callum and Amaya:
