Karlene’s funeral is at a family mausoleum she had build during her lifetime. It’s a small ceremony that mostly consists of family, although some others managed to sneak in. Karlene was a celebrity after all, and while her passing might not cause many tears, it is still something of a spectacle.

After the ceremony, Holly and Ivy stay at Karlene’s resting chamber for a while to say goodbye to the woman who, for better or worse, had brought them to this world.

For the first time since she ran away with her sister, Holly visits her mother’s house. Her sister Angela still lives her, now with a husband and child of her own. And her mother, of course.

The years have been kind to her, but Karlene is an old woman now. Maybe that’s the reason she agrees to meet her daughter. They sit down in her garden, next to the graves of her twelve husbands, and have a talk. 

They agree that it’s time to bury old grudges and seal it with a hug.

Holly even brought a gift for her mother: a bouquet of beautiful flowers she grew in her own garden.

But as Karlene smells the flowers’ sweet scent, she suddenly feels unwell. She falls on the grass and lies still.

By the time Angela and the Grim Reaper arrive, Holly is crying. She is genuinely sad, but she did what she had to do to protect her family and free herself from Karlene forever.

It’s weekend so the sisters go out to party with their roommates and a bunch of friends.

But, once again, Karlene’s appearance makes the evening less pleasant than planned.

This time Holly just pours water over her mother. She will might never get her childhood or father or stepfather back, but a little public humiliation for the person responsible for her misery will do fine instead.

Meanwhile, Ivy befriends a powerful spellcaster. As it turns out, they both like the same books.

And drinks.

Holly and Dianne have successfully shaken off Karlene and are not too eager to return to their friend group.

Rohan and his lovely bride Siobhan celebrate their wedding at the orchid club. Unfortunately it’s not a joyous occasion for everyone.

Leon is surprisingly heartbroken when Rohan ends their affair once and for all.

Luckily, he meets an old friend who happens to be catering for the event.

Roy is a bit shocked about hearing the whole story. But he nevertheless offers Leon his support and comforts him in this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Ivy finds out that Karlene is on the guest list and she’s not happy  about it.

Katie tries to mediate between her former stepmother and stepsister, but if anything the two become even more angry. But the last straw for Ivy is when her girlfriend asks Karlene for an autograph:

She drags Sofia off and the couple spends the rest of the evening arguing.

Holly on the other hand is perfectly happy handing one passive-agressive insult after another to her mother.

Karlene first got famous for being Thorne Bailey’s wife, and she stayed famous by just generally being a really unpleasant person to a lot of random people. Today is the day her hard work has finally payed off and she  holds a grand ceremony to place her celebrity tile.

I love how this random man is ruining what could otherwise be a very nice shot, by just standing there.

Under normal circumstances, seeing Dina Caliente buying a sexy dress at the Black Widow would make me worry for Mortimer Goth, given her personality in Sims 2. But in this save, she can’t hurt him, of course, because he already passed away in a tragic pool accident and all his money went to his widow, Karlene. 

(He had previously left his wife to marry Karlene. Bella ended up marrying Octavia Moon, whose husband had also divorced her.)

Most employees at the Black Widow are very competent and responsible. And then there is Luna Villareal, who, every single time the shop opens, takes of her uniform, changes into a bikini and walks upstairs to swim in the pool. Karlene always scolds her and orders her back to work, but she never learns.

Then again, I can’t blame Luna. Karlene did marry her father, murdered him and took off with all his money and left her alone with her three siblings, two of which were still young kids. I would be pissed too if I had to work for that woman.

After her first shop, the White Wedding, became a quick success, she opened another one in San Myshuno and named it Black Widow. Here she sells lingerie and all kinds of luxurious furniture for rich ladies with expendable husbands.

(I didn’t build this from scratch, but basically did a renovation of the fitness center lot in San Myshuno.)

Karlene has many children from many marriages, most of whom she just left with extended families or at an orphanage when their respective fathers passed away. However, the twin daughters from her first marriage have been living with her for their entire lives.

Holly is most similar to her mother, character-wise. She might dress innocently, but like Karlene, she’s evil and very charming. Unlike her mother, she hasn’t killed anyone (yet) and she doesn’t get along with her well. The fact that she had bonded with one of her step-fathers only for him to die suddenly, tragically and very conveniently for Karlene, might have something to do with it.

Ivy is a bookworm and loves cats. She’s a lot more openly rebellious than her sister and her clothes are just one way to express that.

She generally gets along well with her twin. They might fight a lot, since Holly can be quite insensitive and Ivy likes to pick fights in general.

But they always make up afterwards.

Ivy is also the only family member who pays any kind of attention to Angela Redwood, their younger half-sister who lives with them. She never got any love from Karlene when she was a kid, so she knows her sibling deserves better.

The person Ivy most frequently picks fights with is her mother. And they pretty much never attempt to resolve anything.

Now twelve times a widow with no need to secure another rich man to marry and arrange an unfortunate accident for, Karlene found herself without occupation and quite bored. Sure, she had developed some skill in writing and a lovely singing voice, but that wasn’t really what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. And even though she was left with enough wealth to buy a small town, living a quiet, luxurious life and slowly fading from the public eye was simply not an option for her.

Having never been to college or even held a job in her whole life, there was one thing Karlene had a lot of experience with: getting married. So she bought a lot in Magnolia Promenade and built a fancy shop aptly named “White Wedding”.

*I think you need a mod to actually do that in-game, though, since weddings usually can’t be held on retail lots.
