                               DESPITE HER desire to be cold and aloof, she wasn’t very good at that. carina had always been the woman who felt things so intensely, whether that was love, hate, happiness, anger... whatever she felt, she always felt it with every fiber of her being. so even if she tried to be cold towards elijah or at best, cordial, she found herself slipping. she clenched her jaw at his words and she held her head high. “everything is fine,” she forced herself to say, in as light and breezy of a tone as possible. she wasn’t okay. everything wasn’t fine. but she would be damned if she let her stupid feelings get in the way. he was getting married and she had to accept that, and learn to live with it. “i’m just a little tired, that’s all,” she added to try and make the lie more convincing. “but i’ll be fine. i swear.”

call the impulsive decision a little insane, but as luc crossed the room with enough drinks in him to create a comfortable buzz, he’d already made up his mind. watching them awkwardly try to reject someone for fifteen minutes on and off was more than enough time for him to step in, he figured. of course, as he approached, his plan for what to say went out the window. “hey, baby, where’ve you been?” the grin on his face and his eyebrows shooting up swiftly were meant to signal to play along, but nothing probably could have prepared them for him swooping in with a kiss, his head tilting to deepen it as he cradled the back of their head.
