Bleach's end ships will never not be funny, because this man literally wrote Kuchiki Rukia drying Ichigo's rain, Ichigo swearing on his soul to save Rukia. Ichigo wondering if the world will keep turning without her. The sun and the moon dynamic. Rukia's man in her heart speech, Rukia thinking about Ichigo in her final moments, Rukia sharing her powers, Rukia sacrificing everything to save him, Ichigo sacrificing everything to save her. The whole fade to black movie. Rukia being Ichigo's light.
Then we have Isshin and Masaki, their meeting literally kick starting all the events that transpire. Masaki saving a soul reaper, Isshin sacrificing his powers to save a complete stranger that saved him. Masaki being the sun that he revolves around.
Katagiri and Ryuken being doomed lovers enshrouded by the rain.
We got are you afraid of me Ulquiorra to Orihime. We got Orihime representing the rain and Ulquiorra being born in the deserts of Hueco Mundo. We got Ulquiorra who literally has no heart, gaining a heart because of Orihime. We got the hand reaching scene.
We got Byakuya literally searching for his wife's sister long after her death and adopting her.
We got Unohana telling Kenpachi that he was literally the only man that could make her happy and them being in love blood thirsty monsters that show their love through violence because it's their love language.
I could go on.

Unohana and Kenpachi's relationship needs a lot more spotlight.
Like this man was so changed(looked up to her) that he shaped a part of his soul and named it after her.
Depending on what you believe, he could be one of the only people to truly know her - or that side of her at least. A side she has hidden from almost everyone.
There's something so romantic to me about (the concept of) fighting to death with the one who meant the most to you. The person who you idolized and is now passing on a torch to you - the strongest.

piercing through the heart
In a manga chock-full of swords, it would make sense that in combination with the theme of ‘the heart’, one of the most visceral images in Bleach is that of one character piercing another with their sword, and not just in any place either, but through the chest, or where the heart physically is.
You have the iconic scene of Rukia piercing Ichigo through the chest which kickstarts Bleach in the first place, but also the Gotei 13, with Rukia as representative, giving him his powers back by piercing a sword through his back in the Fullbring Arc.
And you also have scenes, where most often it’s one character admiring or both in admiration  (‘akogare’, if I can use the term) of another being pierced and/or doing the piercing, whether unintentionally or not.
You have Rukia and Kaien

Gin and Rangiku (ok this may be cheating since we don’t actually see him stab her)

Hinamori (my beloved)

and Unohana and Kenpachi

If I was a better writer, I could articulate the symbolism better, but I guess it has a lot to do with how shinigami live side-by-side with death, the violence interspersed with deep emotion. For moments like these where violence couldn’t be helped or was instigated, it couldn’t be impersonal at all. It had to be the exact opposite of impersonal, whether to convey something or to cause the maximum amount of pain.
I love the headcanon that Unohana Yachiru despite being one of the most powerful shinigami ever, and the Gotei 13′s healer never chooses to heal herself of the scar given to her. Whether as a reminder, or because even if she did want to, it was a scar that could never be physically healed because  of the imprint behind the act.
