Cyk [act1] Review

Hello again, everybody!! It’s once again been a while since I actually wrote something substantial on here. I’ve gotten quite a few requests recently, so I decided to catch up with them!  I’ve decided to change up the format a little bit in order to make it easier for me to write more of these regularly. As long as I’m having fun :D.The world of UTAU is always growing, and I’m still happy to boost other people’s content even if it makes the blog kind of quiet. 

Anyways, this review was requested by Plakis Morakis, and it’s for an UTAU I’ve been familiar with for years. (Did you know her name is pronounced like Seiku?)

Basic Overview

Cyk is a well rounded voice with a large degree of power. Act1 is recorded in a powerscale style, with a quiet low range and a shouting high range. She is not great at working immediately, however, as a lot of her samples have no frequencies and are even unconfigured. For general usage, she’s pretty great, but some parts of the voicebank feel unfinished.

Configuration

Cyk Act1 has 4 pitches recorded at A3, D4, F4, and C5. She also comes with rolled r samples, glottal stops, and a falsetto append, which all use the standard kind of aliasing. Her powerscale nature makes her ideal for faster and louder songs. She doesn't require a lot of editing to consonant velocity in order to work in general.

Her A3 pitch is very quiet, which results in UTAU amplifying them extremely when in the editor, causing a lot of distortion. You’ll probably want to use Cyk as a soprano for this reason. It’s not much of a loss, though, since her higher pitches are stunning.

Her English samples are where I got lost, since none of them are otoed or aliased at all. They work fine (as well as singular consonants can) but I had to configure them all myself. The inhale and exhale samples also aren’t configured. They aren’t required to use the voicebank at all, since most people would just use it for basic Japanese, but it’s just weird that almost everything is otoed...except for these parts.

Final Thoughts

Cyk is an above average powerful feminine voice with not a lot of kinks to work out. The unconfigured parts are weird, but it doesn't take away from the main purpose of the voicebank, which is to suit many types of songs and act as a bridge between her powerful and softer variations. The problems with her act1 don’t hurt her very much, since she has a ton of other voicebanks which I’m sure are just as good, if not better.
