Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition Returns from Ukraine, Strengthening Defense and Reconstruction Efforts
Tumblr media
In a significant effort to support Ukraine's defense capabilities and reconstruction initiatives, the Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition (AZDIC) recently concluded its visit to the country. Comprising representatives from various organizations, the delegation engaged in fruitful discussions on defense technologies, digital transformation, food security, educational opportunities, and research and development prospects.
AZDIC's Mission: Supporting Ukraine's Defense and Recovery
AZDIC, driven by its mission to bolster regional and national security, has been actively involved in assisting Ukraine. The coalition aims to address immediate defense needs, contribute to long-term reconstruction efforts, and facilitate the development of a domestic defense industry in Ukraine.
Collaborative Diplomacy: Arizona Delegation Visits Ukraine
Led by AZDIC President Lynndy Smith, the delegation embarked on a week-long trip to Ukraine following an invitation extended to them by Parliament Member Dmytro Liubota. Earlier this year, Liubota had visited Arizona to discuss pressing defense technology requirements. The visit to Ukraine marked a collaborative effort involving influential individuals from Arizona, including Tina Waddington, Austin Kennedy, Billy Kovacs, David Cook, Robert Medler, and Rick Stilgenbauer.
High-Level Meetings: Engaging with Ukrainian Officials
During their visit, the AZDIC delegation held crucial meetings with high-ranking Ukrainian officials. The discussions involved Deputy Minister of Defense Volodymyr Gavrilov, Deputy Minister of Strategic Industries Sergio Blevins, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Android Melnyk, Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation Yegor Dubynskyi, and other prominent leaders. The engagements focused on various aspects related to defense, reconstruction, and innovation.
Real Solutions for Ukraine: Arizona's Commitment
Expressing solidarity, Arizona Senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema emphasized that Arizona and the United States continue to stand with Ukraine. Sinema praised the Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition for its visit to Ukraine, underscoring the significance of supporting Ukraine against Russia's illegal and unprovoked war. The delegation's commitment to finding practical solutions and creating productive outcomes for Ukraine during this crisis was acknowledged by Kharkiv Parliament Member Dmytro Liubota. Governor Katie Hobbs highlighted the importance of addressing Ukraine's diverse needs in areas such as industry, infrastructure, and defense. She stressed the potential for collaboration between Arizona and Ukraine in efforts to defend and rebuild Ukraine, utilizing Arizona's impressive innovations and research centers.
Addressing the Global Food Crisis: AZDIC's Briefing in Rome
Prior to their visit to Ukraine, the AZDIC delegation attended a briefing in Rome conducted by Ambassador Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme. The session aimed to address the pressing global food crisis, which has been further exacerbated by the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian farmers have faced challenges in exporting crucial wheat and grain supplies, severely impacting food security.
In conclusion
The Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition's visit to Ukraine marked a significant step toward strengthening defense partnerships, facilitating reconstruction efforts, and addressing critical issues such as food security. With a commitment to finding real solutions, the coalition aims to support Ukraine's defense and recovery while fostering collaboration between Arizona and Ukraine's defense communities.   Sources: THX News & Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition. Sat for hours in the middle of the street, baking in the desert sun alongside dedicated activists I'm lucky enough to call friends. A plea to urge @kyrstensinema to do her damn job and #endthefilibuster, a plea to get something done to make the average persons life better. We sat down ready to be arrested. We got up and danced and laughed when we weren't. #sitintosaveamerica #tucson Photo taken by my buddy Bill Peterson. (at Tucson, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeCI5VIPfL6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Quote
It was an on-brand moment from a politician whose primary consideration and most important constituent has been herself. Sinema has long styled herself as a reasonable moderate just trying to get stuff done. In reality, she has been a self-serving attention monster, consistently willing to bend any purported principle if she believes doing so will empower her. She seems motivated less by service or even the garden-variety narcissism on display from so many elected officials than a desire for victory, power, and eyeballs. In that, she is hardly unique in Washington. But in a Congress where most of the venal showboaters are Republicans, men, or both, Sinema was singular: a Democrat who, once she got a bit more power, abandoned the party and often her constituents and instead catered to the ultrawealthy—and herself. Even in stepping down, she made it all about her.
Kyrsten Sinema leaving Senate: Her shtick was worn-out and destructive. But that’s not why she won’t run for reelection.

Democrats try to regroup heading into rough November
Democrats are trying to regroup as they head toward November with their biggest legislative priority stalled and polls showing that voters are in a sour mood.
Tumblr media
Democrats spent months on a failed voting rights effort and have effectively put Build Back Better on the back burner. At the same time, they are heading toward a midterm election, which is historically bad for the party in charge, with their majority in jeopardy.
Democrats, led by a group of senators who are facing tough reelection battles, are homing in on cost-cutting ideas that could struggle to pass in the Senate but would let them sharpen their differences with Republicans before November.
“That's the big difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to lowering people's costs. We have real answers. They don't. They just attack,” said Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), previewing the party’s message.“We are focused on getting costs down, and you're going to see a lot of activity in March from us on that issue,” he added.
Senate Democrats pitched ideas during a closed-door caucus lunch this week about where they should focus their efforts, including suspending the gas tax, a suspension of the state sales tax or trying to lower prescription drug costs. They’re also expected to hear from White House chief of staff Ron Klain during a closed-door lunch on Thursday about President Biden’s priorities for the rest of the year.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Schumer’s No. 2, said that Democrats “need a credible, simple approach that families understand.“We want to help these families make ends meet but we don't want to make inflation worse. We've got to come up with a plan that addresses that,” Durbin said.
The move to focus on lowering costs comes as Americans are facing record high inflation, a frequent GOP talking point that they are making a central part of their bid to win back the majority.
Inflation hit 7.5 percent in January, more than a 40-year high. Americans are also still facing supply chain issues, and Democratic governors are rolling back coronavirus restrictions as they face an exhausted constituent base.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) noted that there were positive economic signs, including wage growth and a bounce back in jobs from the height of the pandemic, but that Democrats were trying to target inflation.
