8, 13, 18 & 19 ✨💗
8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom? oh accent-wise definitely new zealand ... which makes no sense to us bc their accent is SO distinct to us lol
13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders? umm...i can’t think of any specifically australian superstitions hahah ... we probably have the regular western ones like black cat walking across ur path etc .. but tbh i dont know how seriously people take those hahah ... the only one i really observe is touching wood so i dont jinx something
18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language? uhm...thinking of Australian English, then yeah different regions of the country have “dialects” that basically boils down to what we call certain items lol ... we have eternal dispute over what different areas call POTATO SCALLOPS (other aussies FIGHT ME)
in terms of the country’s actual native language, I unfortunately do not know any Aboriginal language :(  there is a HUGE variety of Aboriginal language and dialects. if you’re curious this is the map of Aboriginal nations (as you can see there’s a lot!) ... i’m a firm believer that school students should learn some of their school district’s local Aboriginal language, even if it is just some vocabulary. there isn’t enough integration of education about Aboriginal culture in our curriculum
19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem? well our flag has the union jack on it, so I really think it could use a change. I think the Aboriginal flag is awesome and should definitely be flown in more places as standard practice (not just bc it looks cool of course). I like our national emblem though! the national anthem .... is so bad lol ... it would be vastly improved if the tempo were sped up, but as it is it’s like a funeral dirge, and it really doesn’t help that all the lyrics are about “welcoming others from across the sea” and how we have all this bountiful space to share .... but then we stick refugees on offshore processing facilities in terrible conditions for years on end...

8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom?
i would say we look pretty similar to people from malaysia and indonesia, but i don’t have enough experience interacting with foreigners to really know who they mistake us for. we do tend to not get identified as asians sometimes?
10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?
one good ol’ ‘tangina’. it’s from ‘putang ina’ which is something like son of a bitch or something equally derogatory regarding one’s mother, but it’s evolved into something that one can just use in casual speech with friends, like ‘fuck’. you can say it no matter your emotion. very versatile.
11. favourite native writer/poet?
i don’t read a lot from local authors (or in general anymore lmao), unfortunately, but i do remember liking lualhati bautista and bob ong back when i read them!
18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language?
i speak the variant of tagalog that’s spoken in metro manila, which is different from the tagalog you’d find in, say, region 3, and other places in luzon.
