Let’s talk about hobbies. That’s what Saturdays are for right? Oh yeah and chores. 😂Here are two of my hobbies: photography and watercolor. Both take a lot of practice. For homework in #saillustration2 we had some #watercolorwarmupexercises We had to create #colorwheels - one #warmcolors and the other #coolcolors I was supposed to do this for another class, but skipped it because I was too excited to create, so I made sure I actually did it this time and I did learn a lot about #mixingcolors and using tube paints vs. pan paints. We also did some techniques. There has been a lot of road kill around the house lately bringing the turkey vultures to cruise the skies as I walk. They are such fascinating creatures and I never knew how big they were till I moved here and get to see them almost daily. They are scary big with at least a 6ft wing span and stand about 2ft. tall. My little dog George likes to watch them too when they are low enough. Day 62/100 #the100dayproject I had another page idea using the #watercolordriptechnique but this time I wanted diagonal drips vs. the vertical drips like I did yesterday. Diagonal drips aren’t as easy since you can’t just stand the #sketchbook up and let the drips go. I tried putting a can in the middle under the spine, but it wasn’t enough of slope to get the drips going. I had to hold the sketchbook in the directions I wanted. It kind of reminded me of when I used to do golf ball #painting with my preschoolers. Though golf ball painting was a lot more fun. Day 69/100 #the100dayproject I have been flipping through my #watercolorsketchbook trying to think about what to do next and kept coming back to this bird I #painted using shapes I found in cracked pavement. I liked it, but felt it needed more. At first, I was going to turn it into a thunderbird, but once I got the feathers on, I saw the bird dancing, so I made it into a Momma bird dancing with her babies. It feels done now. Day 63/100 #the100dayproject One day while little George and I were out for a walk, he started chasing a butterfly across this grassy area. All of a sudden I felt this whoosh of air pass my ear and saw this bird swoop in, snatch the butterfly out of the air and fly just out of reach of George’s leash, land and gobble the butterfly down while staring at us. Little George just looked at me like “WTF!?!” and I had no answer for him. I was in shock myself. I’ve wanted to catch that moment forever and as I drew this bird, at first the mouth was closed, but then I decided to draw it open and this memory came to me and the rest is history. Today is George’s #gotchaday. We rescued him 4 years ago from the @humanesocietysv. Swipe to see him. I never knew I could love a little dog so much.
