If they followed the books they'd be more frisky šŸ¤”
But obviously some of it can't be translated into tv......
Dear Frisky Anon,
You should have discussed it with a real Gabaldon Expert like @gotham-ruaidh, not with Phoney here, who still fumbles around The Fiery Cross. So, I think you will have to ask me once I am done with Bees, which I bet will be just in time for the second half of Season 7 to kick in. I am told J&C do not have any problems in that department until the very end of it, and well, what can I say, it's Herself's prerogative to portray as she sees fit a legendary, all-encompassing love story as the one she magically created out of thin air (all writing is magic, trust me).
Never mind. Your question made me think, just as I was preparing the lazy dinner for 1 (Baby the Retriever is gone until Tuesday evening), about a couple of things, dealing with adapting content to the screen and also about how our minds deal with the difference between a book and the movie/series based on that book.
Adapting Gabaldon is a very difficult task. Take for example The Fiery Cross' never-ending Gathering. My God, all those words to describe just 24 hours! I have just finished with that unfortunate thief and I am so dizzy with it, I can't even remember if they had breakfast yet. The only solution they had was to go off canon and invent something at The Ridge, because it would have taken forever and hey, it's all about a healthy costs/benefits ratio, too. And mark me: Herself is no Marcel Proust, able to make us dream for hours about his description of Vermeer's View of Delft, somewhere In Search of Lost Time. FYI, I had to wait, as millions before me, until I fucked my meniscus skiing (or attempting to snow plough, to be honest) to discover Proust, but never looked back. Also FYI, Luchino Visconti tried to make a film out of Proust's voluminous saga, but failed. Nina Companeez managed (2011) a very, very poor TV series: unwatchable, and I tried. It is unfeasible - so, overall, I think the series scriptwriters' team did a very good job slaloming between botanical babble, Appalachian folklore, the White Sow and yes, J&C getting frisky.
But the thing I wanted to tell you (so long for distributive attention, I've just burnt my baguette and chicken and will have to start it over again) is just how different the experience of reading something and watching the same thing being translated on screen is. I am obviously no neuroscientist, but I am an avid and normally a quick reader. When you read something, you are at once completely spellbound and totally free: you are taken with the characters' interaction, but you are the master of your course imagining them. You placate your own vision of the world on what you read and, at the same time, you are being overtly manipulated by the storyteller: how this can be is, for sure, a mystery. When you watch an adaptation of what you once read, half of the work is being already done for you: you don't have to imagine these people interacting, they are walking and talking in front of you and then, you focus on other things. It's all about the energy they manage (or not) to convey: acting is, in a fair measure, akin to channeling that energy.
As far as I can tell, the scriptwriters opted for a more subdued approach to Jamie, Claire, sex and old age. But can you say with absolute certainty we aren't collectively projecting our own fantasies on what is certainly Herself's very euphemistic, almost conservative way of writing sex scenes? Anais Nin, she ain't. Embraces and moments of - ahem - togetherness abound and we are left to our own devices to imagine things.
Thus, the horrendous and, to be honest, childish battle between the Book Purists' Crowd and the rest of this fandom. It apparently was dealt with pretty quickly, but it did manage to leave a nasty, long lasting legacy: the Book Boyfriend had to go on and remain a screen fantasy. That is wrong. That selfishness almost floundered the book adaptation project and I bet whatever you want me to bet it took deep feelings not to also compromise something else, money can't buy.
A long answer for a simple question. Make of it whatever you wish, Anon: I wrote it with pleasure, though. :)

A young girl watches BBC Merlin for the first time in 2022 and shares her thoughts for your entertainment.
This time season 3
Enjoy watching me lose my sanity I guess.
Season 1 | Season 2
ā€¢ This show in never going to let me know peace ever again, is it?
ā€¢ I kind of want to see Merlin snap back at Arthur more, because if he doesn't the servant-master trope becomes a nono for me. Like, if they fuck with each other, it sort of brings them to the same level, but if it's only Arthur treating Merling like shit, well... idk doesn't sit right
ā€¢ Morgana my baby look at you how much you've grown. Yes honey play them all slayy
ā€¢ About her reunions... 1) this Morgwen divorce is really feeling like a slap in the face they were sO CLOSE AND :c 2) How was Merlin so gullible lol xd 3) Arthur's... I'm really sad for them. I really feel bad for Arthur when he finds out and ugh tHEY COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TOGETHER
ā€¢ Is that Lucifer
ā€¢ Wasn't Morgana super good with the sword how is Merlin even facing her with it?
ā€¢ The goblin episode is the best one so far I'm laughing sO MUCH. Morgana thinking that Gaius knows about her secret and that Merlin stole her bracelet and in reality it's just a random goblin messing around and slapping the king's head after making him bald.
ā€¢ OMG I JUST NOTICED HAHAHA in the throne room there is a shield hanged and said shield is one that belongs to my homeplace, Castilla y LeĆ³n, in Spain. And his fact it's even better when you know that in my hometown there is a pub called Camelot
ā€¢ Is that the woman from Balto AND the herbalist teacher from Harry Potter
ā€¢ Morgana using Gwen and putting her at risk to kill Arthur just broke my heart. I cannot- Not them. They were in love, your honor šŸ˜
ā€¢ Arthur: I have to do this alone. No help.
Merlin: Sorry I couldn't hear you. My ears suddenly fell off. Anyway I'm going to check every tabern in this realm in search for even more unrequested help. Ok I just miss Gwaine.
ā€¢ Why doesn't Merlin tell Gwaine about his magic. He would keep the secret even just out of spite lol and probably high five the boy.
ā€¢ This is not fair I already love Gwaine so fucking much šŸ¤” I really hate it here.
ā€¢ Gwaine bi king??? How can I not stan.
ā€¢ I need you guys to tell me the exact episode I need to skip so that Gwaine simply stops appearing in scenes and there is no other reason for it, we'll just say he went explore something.
ā€¢ Is that the timelord from Doctor who
ā€¢ Is that Queen Victoria from Doctor who
ā€¢ I can't help it I'm pretty sad that Arthur not only has no idea of everything Merlin does, but he instead thinks he was doing something completely false and irresponsible andā€“ like going to get drunk the day Gwen is getting burnt at the stake. It's SO SAD BC I WOULD BE SO DISSAPPOINTED AT MERLIN FOR NOT HELPING OUT AND Merlin must feel SO bad for not beeing seen and auhdfjalf
ā€¢ Listen you don't understand just how much I wish Morgana had left Gwen out of their plots. It doesn't even make sense, she loved her so much and Gwen did nothing to her how could she be so eager to see her dead?? I hate it here. Imagine if Morgana was conflicted bc of Gwen? like, she would pursue her path but would try at least not to hurt Gwen, doesn't that make much more sense??
ā€¢ Arthur and Gwen don't make my little heart flick as much, but they are pretty cute I have to admit it. And Merlin honestly seems happy that the people he loves are happy together.
ā€¢ Is that Dudley Dursley
ā€¢ This ep before the finale make me feel good about Merlin and Arthur. Not as a couple, but in reflection of character development and all. And they are awarded by their choices like yes finally.
ā€¢ Unrelated but the 4 second scene where Merlin is doing chores for Arthur and Arthur is just there vibing and asking for advise/ranting gives such a homey comfy ambient between them that it's so sweet.
ā€¢ I'm so grateful for Lance to know about Merlin's powers. Like yes finally an ally and a friend who sees him and can confide in šŸ˜šŸ„ŗ I just wish Gwaine knew too. That man is everything but a snitch.
ā€¢ Gwaine con el uniforme de caballero guApooo El barrio entero para tii la reina del martes santoo el niƱo de nUestroS OjoS!

a radfem tried to argue, after she told me "Depp won't fuck youšŸ™ƒ" for not dissing him enough I guess? and that I said it was fucked up, that it wasn't a sexual slur šŸ¤”
...when I'm 100000% positive if a man would've said that to her, ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOSE and omg men cannot diss women without resorting to sexualizing them!!!! and yada yada
Remember ladies: radfem/feminist are the masters of gaslighting
They will shift narrative regarding what's currently convenient to them, and act like victim for calling them out (she said I was ableist for calling her "freakšŸ’€"). That's why they'll call pro lifers "women hating", when they're out there calling any women who doesn't subscribe to (rad)feminism pickme", "cock sucker", "handmaiden" and whatnot. They will shame and humiliate any woman for wrong behavior or crime thought. Which is precisely one of the key patterns of the so called "patriarchy".
On my run on this blog, most of the harassment and slurs that I received was from so called "feminist". The same feminist that are whining about 'class traitors' because not every woman on earth wants to mule for them or care about their hubris against powerful Western men they have no idea exist....
The other day I listened to a podcast from a Black feminitity channel, and she said that White feminism were only trying to get power from White men and have has much power (if not more), but that didn't mean that once they get that power, they'll be willing to share it equally with other women. They thrive to become equal to White men - but they never ponder whether women from other communities actually thrive for that?
That's why whitefeminist are lowkey salty at Black women taking none of their "white crocodile tears", saying that we were "male identified" for not systemically muling for them...šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø This is also why they have no issue centering themselves as the modelfold of female oppression, while not realizing how utterly self centered and dismissive of other women's unique struggle it is
Tumblr media
Just look how happy these women are at being told "yeah, rich white women oppression is peak "pure misogyny"" and not realize how tone deaf this statement is.... So what? other women oppression is 'unpure'? Is the oppression of rich women from developed countries is somehow less representative of misogyny bc they're not White?šŸ¤” Do these whitefem think men from countries where white women are nonexistent use them as a compass for misogyny??
I lost count of all the so called feminist who posted lr reblogged statement saying "if white women can't get fair justice, what does it mean for Black women, or other women of color??" and it got me like "White women aren't a universal compass for female's rights, Stacie. Mistreated women in Kinshasa don't wake up and be like "damn, I wish I could get the same rights as Ashleigh living in ArkansasšŸ„ŗ" White women aren't a compass of femalehood worldwide. Once again, White people CANNOT do anything without centering themselves, and White women aren't past such mental projection, unfortunately.
That's why as a Black woman I thrive to have my own lane and will never let myself be bullied & gaslighted by whitefem for not being a good ally enough. Because my end goal isn't to compete with men. I will never be another intersectionality mule and blindly fight for things that aren't benefiting to me or that I do not believe in.

šŸ¤” What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh? Not sure it made me laugh but this scene always makes me smile An hour and a dozen of falls later, Rose was laying on her back on the ice, laughing, her husband standing by her foot, looking down at her. ā€œDarling, you really have no talent for ice-skatingā€ The Doctor told her bluntly but his eyes were too soft for the harsh comment. ā€œYou on the other handā€ said Rose as she sat up and extended her right hand ā€œa master of it.ā€ The Doctor snorted. ā€œI am a Time Lord of many talents, Rose Tyler.ā€ ā€œA smooth skater and handsome looking tooā€ she teased. ā€œNot fair at all.ā€
āœØ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. šŸ˜‰ I like how I always try to write intuitively and the truest to the character. And when I actually write fluff, itā€™s really sweet. <3
šŸŽ¶ Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately? Depends on the story and characters but mostly yes! I have Desire by Bob Moses on repeat these days
šŸŽØ How do you feel about fan art of your stories? I have received two fanarts in my life and I still have them. Itā€™s an honor, really. It feels amazing. :)
šŸ‘€ Tell me about an up and coming wip please! Itā€™s just a forming wip but that autumn prompt list really inspired me to write Thirteen and Rose visiting a pumpkin patch! So that will be my next project. Probably.
Thank you for the ask! šŸ’™

i was looking at available LGBT fiction ebooks on libby and found this book which had a very procative tagline
Tumblr media
[Screenshot is of a book titled "Docile" by K.M. Sparza and pictures a man in a suit kneeling. His image is in greenscale coloring and against a solid pink background. His eyes have been scribbled out in white. The tagline reads: "there is no consent under capitalism]
but when i looked it up apparently it is literally just published slave/fic šŸ¤”
i can't figure out how to link the review itself but the top review on the goodreads page describes basically all u gotta know lmao
snippet:
I received an ARC of this book from the publishing company Tor.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.Ā Content warning:Ā rape (also from the POV of the rapist), dubious consent, sexual harassment, attempted suicide.
DocileĀ is set in near-ish-future Maryland, at a time when people whoā€™ve amassed debt can erase it by selling themselves into (usually temporary) slavery. Most slaves take ā€œDocilineā€, a type of drug that makes a person highly obedient and keeps them from forming long-term memories. This way, they donā€™t have to remember what happened to them. For Elisha Wilder, however, Dociline isnā€™t an option. His mom had taken it while serving her ten-year sentence, and she never fully recovered; heā€™s terrified of losing himself as she did. Elisha is bought by Alex, whose family invented Dociline. When Elisha refuses to take the drug, the shocked Alex is determined to turn Elisha into the perfect slave without it.
Okay. Right. The tagline for this book is,Ā There is no consent under capitalism. I think that gave me pretty incorrect assumptions about what it would be, and I guess thatā€™s on me. In short, this book is standard slavefic.
For those of you not in the fanfic community, slavefic isā€¦ exactly what it says. A story that focuses on how one character is enslaved to another. Such stories generally come in two broad varieties: a (hot) master breaking in a new slave, or a slave recovering from past abuse (usually with the help of a (hot) new master whoā€™s actually against slavery). Because slavefic is a proper subgenre, like e.g. farmboy fantasy, it comes with its own tropes. The master-whoā€™s-never-wanted-a-slave suddenly needs to acquire one for vague ā€œsocietal pressureā€ reasons! Crazy rich people parties where the slave is rented out to the masterā€™s friends! (Alternatively, the master may growlĀ theyā€™re mine!Ā and refuse to rent them out.) The masterā€™s jealous ex who hates how obsessed the master is with their new slave! The recovering ex-slave gets to choose their own clothes for the first time and is overwhelmed by the experience! Bucketfuls of angst about whether the master-slave relationship can truly be called love! Buttplugs!
AndĀ DocileĀ is, wellā€¦ aĀ veryĀ by-the-numbers slavefic.
(but i mean take even this review w a grain of salt too cuz they said they recced captive prince as an alternative which is also just. enslaved brown guy x asshole blonde white prince)
