10 fandoms/10 characters
Many thanks to @tomatette, @jaynesilver, and @fallingdeeperintothispit for tagging me 😁.
Star Wars (Sequels): Armitage Hux. I really do love Kylo too—Ren is such an interesting, dramatic character, and he's absolutely perfect for Hux, seriously. But Hux with his emotional unavailability, hard, overly-composed exterior, his passion/drive to the point of his own detriment, traumatic past...he's everything I could want in a character, because I am also all of these hard-to-love things (though thankfully minus the space fascism).
Star Wars (Prequels): Anakin Skywalker. Look, I know he's a bit whiny sometimes but damn if I don't love a murderous pretty boy on a fool's errand for the person he loves. Mystical space powers and dramatic sweeping outfits are just an added bonus.
Beauty and the Beast: the Beast. For the handful of people following my BatB Kylux fic, this is TOTALLY shocking, I know (and also you guys are amazing ❤️). I do love Belle—she's a book-loving introvert, so that's a given. But the Beast (notice I didn't say Prince Adam)...yeah, I did NOT know how to deal with my attraction to him when I was younger. Mercurial, cursed, awkwardly endearing, dark-haired, passionate, and desirously fluffy?! Wears dramatic capes, has an enchanted rose determining his future, and has the library of my dreams that he is willing to share?? What the fuck more could I want?!
LOTR trilogy: Aragorn. Do I really need to explain that to anyone?? (Also: sorry, Legolas...you were a VERY close second).
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Jemma Simmons. Brilliant, adorable style, much more resilient than she looks. Her quote that goes "Past events...have shown me that I’m not good at improvisation. However, I excel at preparation" is not that great out of context here, unfortunately, but regardless, it was so validating to me. Me too, Jemma!!
Once Upon a Time: Killian Jones (Captain Hook). My husband loves this show, so we have watched it so many times. Hook is a seductive, charming bad boy who eventually really does try his best. And his pirate get-up? UGH, have mercy. (Also, wow, apparently I really, really have a thing for pretty, dark-haired, dangerous men who wear mostly black INCLUDING at least one garment that falls to at least knee length. Huh. That's...rather specific.)
Harry Potter: Hermione Granger. I related hard to a bookish girl who had a hard time making friends when I read these in grade school.
Howl's Moving Castle: Howl. I did not know how to process the extent to which I was attracted to him either, especially because he's not even human some of the time (which I liked, a lot). It was a revelation to find the world of online fanfic where I was very much not alone in those kind of thoughts!
Mean Girls: Janis Ian. Yeah, I know Janis does some shitty things in this movie, but she is unapologetic about who she is. I totally admired her boldness in high school, especially since I too dealt with the horror of rumors being spread about my sexuality (except the ones about me were true ahaha). And I always leaned much more Victorian goth than punk, but I nonetheless appreciated her style as well.
t.A.T.u.: Lena. I would be remiss to leave off this duo, even if they were a musical group, which is not one of my usual fandom sources. BUT they were the first pairing I actually read fanfic about online, way back when, and wrote a ton for them too (unpublished). For a 12-year-old who was struggling massively with...well, everything, but especially feeling incredibly alone and terrified of my sexuality, their music video/song "All the Things She Said" blew my mind. Unfortunately I never got my own chance to make out/run away with a pretty redhead in the rain, but still.
Tagging: I think I've seen this done by most people I follow already? But if you haven't done this and are reading it, please consider yourself tagged and do so, if you wish! I love these get-to-know-you things and would genuinely love to hear about you :).

For the character thing: jaskier and sam (lotr)🤍✨
Libby what have you DONEDFGJHSG this is going to be such a mess 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Jaskier / Dandelion (based on the show and what I’ve read of the first two books)
How I feel about this character: *insert Lady Gaga ‘talented’ meme* dgfdsjh 😍😭💖 Jaskier is someone who spreads infinite amounts of love, joy, humour and energy around him - I find the life in him so inspiring! His approach to life is one of constant delight and wonder; he’s smart and hilarious and brave; he genuinely sees people (Geralt) beyond reputation and appearances, without prejudices nor judgement... I could go on for ages fghsdds
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Geralt of Rivia. Gwynbleidd. Geralt. Geralt of nowhere. The White Wolf. Have I also mentioned Geralt???????
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I’d like to see Jaskier and Yennefer become buddies who are secretly, reluctantly fond of each other! I feel like their personalities yield lots of friendship potential, with how savage and unapologetic they both are. Together with Roach (who’s already Jaskier’s friend, fight me) they could totally band up to annoy the shit out of Geralt and make his life a living hell lmaoo 😂💕
My unpopular opinion about this character: Joey said that he and the writers working on the show made a conscious effort to have Jaskier not be a cliché womaniser character, and I do think they very much succeeded in that. As for book!Jaskier/Dandelion, though, it was pointed out in the same interview that he embodies a kind of character that’s pretty much an established humouristic fixture in Polish/Slavic literature (the annoying womanising drunk) - and while I do respect that heritage, I gotta say that that side of Dandelion in the books is something I unfortunately don’t really connect with :/ I do love Dandelion very much, but I find many aspects of his characterisation to be a caricature of sorts, whereas imo the show manages to lend him more humanity and make him more relatable in a way that feels nicely modernised. At the same time, though, one thing I find to be a shame in the show is that Jaskier and his relationship to Geralt are largely used as comic relief when I feel like so many other sides to the character and relationship could be explored as well - among other things Jaskier’s eloquence and taste for good conversation, his devotion, his bravery, etc. Of course, presumably all characters on the show had to be simplified and boiled down to something concise and easily digestable to a TV audience bc of limitations of time and medium, but still, it’s a bit sad to think about all the nuances and subtleties that couldn’t be included 😔
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Obv I don’t know all that’s in store for him at this point, but I do wish Jaskier would get his happy ending with Geralt and spend lovely, peaceful, intimate time with him on the coast as he so wants 😭💗 As much as I adore Geralt, he also needs (in the show mind you, bc in the books it’s an entirely different story) to get his head out of his own ass and start treating Jaskier with the affection and respect I know he feels but won’t allow himself to show - Jaskier deserves it 🌸 Ideally the mountaintop fight would never have taken place at all rip, and I wish I could undo all the small instances when Geralt was unnecessarily mean to Jaskier for no reason, although obv that’s all part of Geralt having his own struggles, being really bad at receiving love and expressing his emotions, etc. :(
Sam Gamgee
How I feel about this character: My love, my hero, my darling!!!! Sam is one of my all-time faves, no doubt about it 😭💕💝💞🌈
All the people I ship romantically with this character: FRODO AND SAM ARE EACH OTHER’S TRUE LOVES 💖💖💖💖 If I had to choose one single pairing in the history of ever, it’d be them 🌹
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Not sure this qualifies as an OTP in any shape or form, but I find Sam’s relationship to Sméagol very interesting ddfgjs
My unpopular opinion about this character: I really dislike whenever people claim that Sam is the only true hero of the Quest and invalidate Frodo’s strength, bravery and sacrifice in the process. While I do very much agree with the fact that Sam played a crucial part in the success of the Quest and Frodo wouldn’t have succeeded without his unfailing love and support, I strongly believe both their parts are not to be undermined. Victory is made possible bc Sam and Frodo rely on each other and complete each other - they each contribute something invaluable on their own, and it’s their teamwork that ultimately saves the day 🌻 I think it’s unfair to give Sam all the credit simply bc he’s perhaps a more traditionally ‘likeable’ character with his humour and boundless dedication, and I also think it’s important to remember that Sam would resent the idea of people not giving Frodo the praise he deserves 💫
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I’m not sure I’d wanna change anything, actually? I feel like Sam is where he’s meant to be the entire time, and the fact that he gets to reunite with Frodo in what is pretty much the afterlife at the end of his story seems like the perfect conclusion for him: love, warmth and home ❤️🌷
Send me a character and I’ll break their ass down 💌

character asks: Celebrimbor
favorite thing aboutthem: Oh my, where tobegin? First, I think he was a completely unapologetic Fëanorian (point incase: the star on Durin’s Gate), but he believed that their cause was just andfought with everything they had to make it so. He maintained his decency, firstin Nargothrond, then in Eregion where he tried to build a new future for hispeople alongside Galadriel and Celeborn. He truly tried to do the right thing. He fucked up royally in the process (and I like that too because it makes himrelatable), but when he realized his catastrophic error he took theconsequences upon himself and stood up to Sauron to the bitter end.
His rings did helpto bring Sauron down. Elrond’s comments in LotR make very clear that the elvesheld him in high regard.
Obviously, Ilove his close friendship with the dwarves, which shows a remarkable lack ofprejudice. The Doors of Durin are a statement to that friendship and to his ownidentity as a descendant of Fëanor. (Which he claimed, probably, as a thing of pride. Fëanor was the greatestcraftsman of the Noldor, and Celebrimbor wanted to rival him.)
least favorite thing about them: Not listening topeople who had a bad feeling about Annatar… including perhaps his owninstincts. I second this post by lintamande. He probably had a streak ofarrogance, too much pride, and a tendency to overrate his own abilities as aleader. He must have clashed viciously with Galadriel, which was probably his fault alone (with the generous assistance of Annatar, but that is no excuse).
favorite line: “Speak, friend, and enter” is probably a joined invention by him and Narvi, and one ofthe few genuinely funny parts of LotR. They must have had a fine sense of humor. (This is totally how it happened.)
brOTP: I thinkCelebrimbor had a close but complicated relationship with Galadriel. They wereamong the few surviving Finwions and developed an almost fraternal bond afterthe War of Wrath: Galadriel sort of adopted him as the little brother she neverhad, after all her brothers had died. Unfortunately, this dynamic also includedsibling rivalry, which led to an epic fall-out when he found her sensibleconcerns overbearing and patronizing. Things weren’t improved by Celeborn’santi-Fëanorian reservations. But they reconciled before the end, when Celebrimborbrought her Nenya for safekeeping.
OTP: I adore Celebrimbor/Narvi, as elaborated inthis post. I see no reason why there shouldn’t be epic elf/dwarf romances, since we know that elves do occasionally fall in love with mortals… and thisone is based on friendship, mutual respect, and shared interests. I wantCelebrimbor to have something good among all his tragedy.
That said, Ihave seen the odd well-written Celebrimbor/Maeglin and found that I could wrapmy brain around it. It’s not my OTP, but enjoyable.
nOTP: Sorry, dear Silvergifters. Truly, I’ve given this ship a chance, exposed myself to it and readseveral well-written fics, but it still makes me viscerally sick. I just can’tsee Sauron being in any way invested in this relationship – or not beyond gratification through power – and that gives the whole thing adynamic I find extremely upsetting. Not to mention that Celebrimbor’s fate isterrible enough without adding toxic and utterly hopeless romance into the mix.So no. Get thee gone from my gate, thou servant of Morgoth.
I don’t usually talk about this on my blog out of consideration for the shippers, and withtumblr being tumblr, I’ll add that I don’t mind people shipping it (although thepopularity of it makes it difficult to avoid). I don’t think it’s “problematic”.I mean, I even read the occasional incestuous Celegorm/Curufin trainwreck, soit’s definitely not a moral issue. It’s just that I can’t deal with it.
Oh, and I don’t like Celebrimbor/Galadriel because, truly, we know how awesome Galadriel is without piling more unrequited-love angst on her ill-fated cousin.
random headcanon: He didn’trepudiate Fëanor’s deeds, but Curufin’s specifically. For one, he admiredFinrod; he also thought that Curufin’s actions were a disgrace to the House of Fëanor and feared(correctly) that they would cause further trouble for his family down the road.He cut ties with his uncles after Doriath, but still carried the FëanorianStar.
For a lighterheadcanon, I like to think that Celebrimbor wasn’t all that serious when he hadthe chance. I’m not sure how it happened, but somehow my version of him acquireda few (book canon) Holmesian traits: especially the impish humour and theunconventional ideas. He, too, would find it extremely amusing to turn up in the living room splattered withblood, with a harpoon, “for an experiment, I have no idea why no cab would takeme”. His tools probably also appeared in the butter dish “or in even lessdesirable places”. And he could alsoturn very dangerous in the blink of an eye.
unpopular opinion: Apart from silvergifting?I don’t think he was particularly gentle, and especially not naïve. Hisrage, when provoked, was entirely Fëanorian.
song i associate with them: Coward byTrillium for his showdown with Sauron. It might be stretching things a bit tocall Sauron a coward, but Finweans have never bothered much about that while insulting Dark Lords. Thesong captures what I imagine to be Celebrimbor’s attitude right to the end andis also somewhat prophetic.
Angels Fall Firstby Nightwish could be a Celebrimbor & Galadriel friendship song. “Yesterdaywe shook hands, my friend; today a moonbeam lightens my path, my guardian.”Tissues, please.

For the author asks: 9, 14, 16, 18, 23 and 25! :)
Thanks a bunch. :)
9) what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
Daydream and listen to music. I do a lot of both, usually at the same time. If a project ends up being long enough for multiple songs I’ll put together a playlist. But my main source of inspiration is probably books and movies; especially old favorites. One of the books that’s influenced my own stories the most, just in terms of trying to write genuinely, is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Movies-wise, I saw the first LOTR movie when I was around six, and it jump-started my love of fantasy.
14) do you make playlists for your current wips?
If they’re long enough, yeah! Music helps me figure out what kind of mood I’m shooting for in a story. Things switch up depending on the WIP, but there’s almost always at least one Mumford & Sons song per playlist. I also love Bruce Springsteen and Florence + The Machine.
16) are there any characters who haunt you?
I really, really love this question. :) With my own writing, I can’t say that there are, because I haven’t written all that much yet. When it comes to other people’s characters, though, I have a few:
Bone Boatwright from Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, because she goes through some truly horrible things but also has so much love for her family.
Yondu Udonta from GOTG, for pretty obvious reasons. Tragically heartwarming death scenes are the only way to go.
Aunt Sissy from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, because she’s kind and funny and completely unapologetic.
Karen Page because she won’t stop looking for the truth, no matter what. I waffle back on forth over whether she or Frank is my favorite Marvel character…but in the end I have to go with Karen.
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
I already talked about The Outsiders. Bastard Out of Carolina is another big one; I love how Dorothy Allison sort of lays the story out for you without judging any of her characters. The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane (both by Neil Gaiman) are gloriously creepy but so compassionate. The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey features one heck of a complicated parent-child relationship; it’s kind of my gold standard for that sort of thing.
 23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
Without going into too much detail, a lot of the difficulties I’ve had with my own relationships sneak into my stories and influence them in interesting ways. This isn’t exactly obscure, but I also come from a pretty big family, so writing big, chaotic groups of characters is no problem for me.
25) copy/paste a few sentences or a short paragraph that you’re particularly proud of
I have to admit, I’m very happy with this snippet from my Mag7 fic:
Emma Cullen was born in dust, and to dust she’ll return. She knows this. But the knowing…well. It doesn’t make the returning any easier.
I figured I should probably include a WIP, though, so here’s something from the Kastle witchcraft AU that should be finished soon…ish:
Spells aren’t words. That’s the first thing Ben taught her. There are words to go with some spells; words better left unspoken, andsometimes even unthought. Those words are the doorway in. Spells are the reaching. The holding. The binding of something that doesn’t belong to you, or in thisworld.
