Rung sleeps very, very deeply.

Deeply enough that it takes a lot to wake him. He used to be carried around in his sleep during the War, when he was remembered, because they couldn't wake him up and needed to move.

His guard, during that time, was mindful of their charge's Forgetfulness so they actually set an alarm to 'go check on the room next to you before you leave the area. Bring the person there with you.'

He got kidnapped in his sleep once, hence the reminders.

he does not recognize this voice. he thinks that it may be for the best ( how long has it been since his soul rested in this body? / edlendír had vanished, but it seems he has not changed at all ). so, he turns with a soft gasp, KINDNESS RESPONDS TO KINDNESS, or perhaps to sorrow ( deep / it threatens to swallow him whole ). she must think him a poor wanderer unaware of changing tides. he does not have the heart to say otherwise. he opts for expected concern — ❛ what if you fall in, too? ❜ but, after a quick assessment, he realizes that she’s already in the water. somewhat, at least. 

        typical; another person swept up in his agony. one more weight on his soul. 

so he takes the offered hand, finds stable ground beneath his hooves before the river seems to calm. he’s calmer, too, isn’t he. ❛ you know, you could’ve been swept up in that, too ... but thanks. i must’ve been distracted, not knowing how temperamental the waters are ... i owe you one, really. ❜

development questions.

he does. eventually. he learns in his thirty-fourth year, after he kills his parents. they were the only ones committed to keeping it a secret from him. no one else cares to maintain that charade. the elders always have the interests of the land in mind, so they were quick to tell him about the importance of his role before the rest of the town chased him out, hoping it might convince him to stay in the wood to protect them. he’s a grown man now, so he can take care of himself out there. except he can’t. because he never learned how to.

this is a stage of archie’s journey that i’m still working out the kinks for, but i know that he does remain in the wood, because that’s where the monsters are supposed to live. and i think one of the other monsters takes pity on him, even when they know what he is and what he’s destined to do.
