Not all positive change feels positive in the beginning
There are enough Instagram accounts out there painting the world as perfect, we don't want to be another of them, we want to be honest. 🍃
It all started when my parents got a divorce. At the time, my routine was completely overwhelming: I'd spend three hours in a bus to get to university, six hours a day of classes at uni, half an hour in a bus to get to my internship, six hours in the agency and then another three hours in a bus to get home. 🗓
Having said that, I couldn't really complain as I had a dream internship at a design agency. My immediate superior was extremely helpful and she has taught me everything she could, the director of the agency was very accessible and, more often than not, gave insightful feedback on my work. 👩🏾‍💻
To make things even nicer, the office had loads of fascinating books we could read during working hours when we didn't feel productive. Of course, I couldn't ask for more whilst working in a place like this, right? 📚
Wrong.

No way out
.
I was definitely feeling lucky, especially when compared to the other students in my university and their workplaces. However, I was still frustrated at the fact that I couldn't connect with the agency's clients at all. 💔
They were usually really nice and big clients, such as Carnival parties, night clubs, international congresses or product launching campaigns but, on my end, the work would always seem like more of the same: editing small pieces of content whilst having no idea of the whole picture, of the company's purpose. 👎
My mum has always been supportive and my father, although emotionally absent, would always do everything within his reach to help me. The problem was, there was not much within their reach that could help me. My mum had been unemployed for the last three years and my father hardly earned enough to support himself. 💣
Suddenly, I would have to worry about renting a house, buying furniture, eating, feeding my dog — that happened to be allergic to dog food — paying other bills and leaving my dog alone at home all day. Even worse, my internship salary would never even allow me to support myself and study at the same time. 💥
What would you do in my situation?
