i love your art, it reminds me of the game risk of rain 2 what are your inspirations when it comes to art and characters?
Thanks! And unbelievable, it was literally just a few days ago that I came across that game for the first time while browsing Steam's summer sale and thought, "Wow I really like this game's aesthetics, maybe I should buy it?" and today I see this. So I guess I have to buy it now!
As for inspirations, hoo boy, I guess it wouldn't be quite fair to say "everything," even though it really is the case that you can make something out of anything. I've got multiple powerpoint documents where I just store images (photos, paintings, comics, clippings of news headlines) that caught my eye enough when I first saw them that I wanted to hold onto them. And if I don't have an image of the thing that inspired me, if it was a moment I witnessed or a story I heard, I have a word document where I'll write it down.
That reminds me of a fun exercise I learned from one of my instructors where you write a list of as many things that excite and inspire you in particular as you can. Concepts, creatures, story types, color combinations, just go nuts and write everything that comes to mind. And once you've got a nice big list, pick one item from it and dig into it. Ask yourself why it excites you and what specific aspects of it draw you to it and capture your imagination. It'll help you get a deeper understanding of your own tastes so that you can bring them out to greater, more deliberate effect in your work.
Aaand I guess that doesn't quite answer the question of what inspires me in particular. Believe me it's a long list ranging from broad concepts like unlikely friendships to specific little things like black that turns blue in the light. Some of the big favorites for me are space science, animals that look alien, curious robots, and monsters that might not be what you think.
And while we're here, have a list of some of the artists that are inspiring me a lot at the moment: @modmad, @poolsofchrome, @hiziri-pro, @maximemaryblr, @juliaon, @salamispots, @doodledrawsthings, @chriskotiesen, @marionlouw, @geronimoanim, Scott Flanders, Nico Marlet, Drew Wolf, and Aurélien Predal.

My wife unknowingly chose the art for me to sketch to. We talked about how 3/4 has a very “rolling” effect rhythmically, and it match the landscape, and she said it sounds very adventurous, so overall, I think I did alright. Also, horses remind me of dorian... I know, weird, but also, kind of the correct choice, wouldn’t you say?
shout out to @marionlouw
Your art is wonderful and you inspired a pretty neat musical sketch
