Tboy or whatever would be shitty but is it just bc trans girls were joking about catgirls first? Genuinely I'm just curious and I do agree that trans men steal community jokes from trans women all the time

The whole like, it being a joke popularized by trans women that then just got stolen and had “boy” written over the same exact memes thing does personally annoy me, but it’s not my main objection.

My main issue is that so many “catboy” things aren’t just “what if a boy was a cat,” they’re specifically transmisogynist caricatures, and functionally just end up being tr/p or f/mboy memes with ears and a tail attached.

A good example would be the Jerma catboy costume. Rather than just being how he normally dresses plus ears or a tail, he specifically put on a choker, a women’s v-neck shirt, and a skirt. At worst, it’s purposely dressing like a trans woman as a joke, and at best it’s just doing the “person dressed as a girl is secretly a boy, isn’t that funny and embarrassing?” shit that underlies every transmisogynist trend online because they’re just the same shit recycled every couple years
