I missed yesterday of @thestemsquad august photo challenge so allow me to catch up! My name is Andrea, I have a degree in Computer Information Systems and currently work as a cloud application developer. I also compete in pageants as a hobby so I am strong believer in brains and beauty and an advocate for #WomenInSTEM. Society is changing and not only are more women joining the stem community, but being a woman in stem doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your femininity. I write code on a daily basis but I'm also obsessed with makeup and talk with beauty queens everyday. My journey hasn't been easy but I am proud of who I've become and where I'm going. The criticism I've received over the years has only made me stronger. Whether it was a teacher telling me girls don't do computer science, or a co-worker telling me to leave my "pageant model stuff" at home, or pageant contestants thinking I'm too geeky; all of the trials have made me into the woman I am today. I knew I wanted to go into computer science since the beginning of high school. I grew up playing video games with my stepdad and loved watching him build computers. I started to help him assemble these machines and my passion just continued to grow.
