Worthy Of Love
Book: Desire & Decorum (modern day AU) Characters: Veronica Dantas (F!OC), Yusuf Konevi, Annabelle Parsons Pairing: Annabelle Parsons x F!OC (Veronica) Rating: M Word count: 1215 Reading time: ~5min Summary: A visit to a place Veronica has been avoiding for years will evoke memories and feelings she’d rather ignore. Based on the prompt: @choicespride Holiday Pride Event - Religious Trauma/Crisis
Author's note:
Veronica Dantas is a creation of this author. The others are owned by Pixelberry Studios;
@missameliep‘s ask about the nice and naughty list got me thinking about Annabelle and Veronica too. This story isn’t as cute as I hoped it would be, but it still had to be written. Btw, Ann and Vee are totally on the nice list ❤
Warning: This piece contains subjects (mentions of homophobia and psychological trauma) may be disturbing for some people. Reader discretion is advised.

Veronica stopped before Saint Paul's Cathedral and shoved her hands into her coat pockets as she looked up at the Renaissant/Baroque church. Though some restorations were made on the building since the last time she had been here, to her it seemed like not a single thing had changed.
A chill coursed through her spine, but she chose to ignore it. "It's just cold weather," she told herself. Then, with quiet steps, she tentatively walked in, hoping the clacking of her boots didn't distract the children's choir rehearsal for Christmas services.
As she took a seat on the bench closest to the door, she looked at the altar to watch the rehearsal. A group of fifteen girls between six to eight years old giggled whilst the coach, a man that looked like a former member of a grunge band, made oddly funny gestures to explain how a specific part of the music should be sung.
By the piano, Annabelle calmly waited as the choir coach instructed the kids. With her shoulders back, hair tied on a low messy bun and hand placed over her legs, she looked absolutely stunning. Veronica loved that about her. Her posture, elegance, and gracefulness. Quite the opposite of herself.
At last, her eyes met her partner's and they shared a timid smile from afar. But before anyone noticed, both of them looked away and the rehearsal continued.
Mixed feelings rose within Veronica's chest as the choir began to sing Child Of The Poor. Memories of herself as a kid, also part of the choir in this same church flooded her thoughts. Raised in a Christian home, she always attended church services, Sunday school, and choir rehearsals. It was fun for a while.
When she grew older, however, things changed. People stared, shook their heads in disapproval. Good Christian girls can't do this, good Christian girls can't say that. But it got worse she moved to live next to her father's family. She did her best to do everything she was told. But it was hard to fit in when everyone told her she couldn't be herself and seek "professional help", otherwise the Lord would never approve of her. But wasn't that the same God described in the bible as Love itself? Why did others insist she wouldn't be worthy of love?
She looked down at her hands as her eyes welled up. Of all the places they could've chosen to meet up before joining their friends for drinks, did she really have to meet Annabelle at St. Paul's? After so many years of avoiding religious-related things and places like the plague, she shouldn't have agreed to be here just because someone she loves dearly wants it.
Veronica quickly brushed away the tears that threatened to roll down her cheeks. She was done with this bullshit years ago. She couldn't cry over this again.
"Is this seat taken?" A calm and deep voice she knew so well caught her attention.
"Yusuf?!"
"Hi," Yusuf answered with a broad smile and sat next to his friend.
"Hi... I thought you and Bart would meet everyone in the pub."
"That was the plan. When you said you'd meet Annabelle here, Hamid and I were a bit concerned.
"Was it that obvious it wouldn't end well?"
"No. But abi¹ and I know how much this could affect you. How are you feeling?"
"I don't know... Overwhelmed, I guess..." Averting her gaze, a rueful smile adorned her lips. "But hey, I just proved Dame Margot Aldridge wrong. I didn't burst into flames when I walked in here."
Yusuf shook his head, but couldn't suppress a chuckle.
As their smiles faded, both of them looked at the altar. The children beamed singing Oh, Come All Ye Faithful whilst Annabelle played the song with ease.
"I see why Annabelle always offers to play. These kids are quite talented," Yusuf commented.
"Yeah... Somehow, she only has fond memories of her time in church groups."
They continued to watch the rehearsal for a while before Veronica spoke up again.
"You didn't have the best experience during your time in halaqas either and you're still very Muslim. What's your secret?"
"Years of therapy."
She chuckled.
"I think it finally hit me when I learned Arab and could read the Quran myself. It doesn't say much about homosexuality, except for the Sodom and Gomorrah surahs. Which is also the only moment mentioned in the Bible. The hatred we endured and the bullying we suffered aren't encouraged by the Prophet or Jesus Christ. They tell us the very opposite. Allah created diversity. He wanted all of us to be different and still love each other."
"I wonder how bigots ever finish secondary school given how they often lack basic skills like reading and understanding a book," she grumbled.
"A very good question," he nodded in agreement. "But what really matters to us is knowing we are worthy of Allah's love. And we don't need other people's approval to do so."
A tear rolled down her cheek. Before she could wipe it, Yusuf moved closer and enveloped his friend in a warm embrace.
"You really came a long way from the days you weren't even sure if you'd ever come out," Veronica said with a small smile.
"I wouldn't have crossed to that long path if it wasn't for a psychologist/friend of mine who said I should try psychotherapy to handle all the baggage I couldn't carry on my own," he commented, nudging her with an elbow.
She pursed her lips but nodded. "Okay, okay... I got the message. I'll talk to my therapist about it in the next session."
"That's the spirit!"
As the choir ended the last Christmas carol, the small crowd watching the rehearsal applauded the girls. Veronica and Yusuf followed suit. Her eyes and Annabelle's met again.
"It'll be a good step for you, especially now that you two are planning the wedding ceremony," Yusuf commented.
"What if I don't heal fast enough to agree with this blessing thing she wants so much?"
"The important thing is that you'll finally talk about it with someone other than Hamid and me, V. Annabelle is a thoughtful person and she loves you. She will understand if you need more time."
Whilst the people began to leave the cathedral, Annabelle sauntered over to them.
"Hey! I didn't know you'd be here," Annabelle said, greeting Yusuf with a hug.
"I was driving nearby and remembered you two would be here. You made such a compelling speech about the children's choir, I had to see it for myself," Yusuf explained with a smile.
"Aren't they amazing?" Annabelle enthused.
"They are. Christmas services will be beautiful," Yusuf agreed.
"Did you like it too, darling?" Annabelle turned to her fiancee.
"Yeah..."
Veronica exchanged glances with her friend, who gave her an encouraging nod and a smile. She then moved closer to her partner.
"In fact, there's something I want to talk to you about. Can we go for a walk before joining everyone in the pub?"
"Sure."
"I'll see you two later," Yusuf declared.
As they bid farewell to Yusuf, Veronica walked out of the cathedral alongside her fiancee. This might not be the pleasant talk she hoped to have whenever she thought about their upcoming wedding ceremony. But it certainly was a necessary one.
_________
¹ Abi: older brother. Often used to refer to a friend a bit older than the person speaking.
² Halaqas: religious gathering to study the Islam or the Quran

Hii 🥰
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Thanks for the ask, sweetie! ☺️
A top 5? This is incredibly hard for me, like it must be for a mother to pick a favorite child! I write what I love, and even if they are not perfect, every fic can be so very different and challenging and special and I love them all in different ways.
I'll be cheating because Desire & Decorum, which is my favorite book to write and of my favorite pairing Elizabeth and Hamid that has my heart, so I'm making a top 5 for all the fics and another one for D&D, which could be easily a Top 10 because I love so many chapters of TPoH and Second Chances ❤️
Top 5
1. Like Poetry (Blades of Light and Shadow)
2. Safe (Wake the Dead)
3. Heart in a Cage (Blades of Light and Shadow)
4. Rainy Days - Part 1
5. Bad Liar
Top 5 Desire & Decorum
1. Netflix and Cafuné (Modern AU)
2. Is this love?
3. The Pursuit of Happiness - Epilogue
4. Desire&Decorum&Zombies
5. Somewhere in time (AU of an AU - if you know it, you know it)

Personal Favourite - Part 2: Favourite Part(s)
Author's note: Another gift for @missameliep because reasons (I may or may not be planning flood your notes with the OTP meme fics in the next few days. I don’t know for sure... 😅). Happy birthday, dear! This is also a late submission to @choicesjuly2022challenge (I hope it’s okay...)[Original characters are creations of this author. The others are owned by Pixelberry Studios]
Book: Desire & Decorum (modern day AU) Characters: MC (Daphne), F!OC (Veronica), Prince Hamid, Annabelle Parsons, Briar Daly, Edmund Marlcaster, Yusuf Konevi, Bartholomew Chambers. Pairings: Prince Hamid x MC (Daphne), Annabelle Parsons x F!OC (Veronica) Rating: T Word count: 980 Reading time: ~3min Summary: A volleyball match will bring so many emotions to the surface. Based on the prompts: Choices July Chellenge 2022 - day ten: beach / OTP ask meme #6: What is their favourite feature of their partner’s?
Tumblr media
A salty breeze blew against Daphne's face as she lay on an outdoor chaise, watching her friends play volleyball by the calm waters of the Aegean sea. She was well aware some of them were too competitive to handle having someone not so good at sports on their team, so why bother joining? It was so much more entertaining to watch the game anyway.
Whilst Hamid and Annabelle high-fived after another successful block and point against Briar and Edmund, her childhood friend complained about sand on her eyes.
"Oh, quit whining! You barely moved! Edmund took the dive!" Annabelle shouted.
"But the sand is going straight to my eye!" Briar cried out hoping Bart and Yusuf (a.k.a the match referees) would take pity on her, but both of them simply shook their heads.
“I can see you talking, but all I hear is wah, wah, wah!" Annabelle taunted.
Briar replied sticking her tongue out to Annabelle.
As everyone laughed, Hamid took his place just outside the end of the court and waited for Bart's signal to serve.
Daphne sat up and nibbled her bottom lip expectantly. She couldn't remember the last time she has paid such close attention to any part of a volleyball match. But watching Hamid play was a rare event she just couldn't miss.
Sensing his partner's attentive eyes on him, he smiled at her, winked and prepared himself to serve. His skin glowed under the sunlight, accentuating the taut muscles of his arms as he jumped and hit the ball to the other side of the court. As expected, he scored another point. From time to time, he dumped some of the water in his bottle over his head and, much to her delight, it cascaded over his bare torso, mixing with pearls of sweat running down his body. He moved such grace alongside Annabelle as they attacked and defended their side of the court it looked like they've been playing together for years.
Daphne sighed contently at the scene before her and lay down again, resting her chin on one hand. Staying on the sidelines to watch him play was, so far, the best decision of the day.
"Here you go, sweetie."
Veronica offered Daphne a tall glass of Blue Lagoon and took a seat on the nearby chaise.
"Thank you," she replied and took a long sip of the drink.
"Take this too." Veronica handed Daphne a napkin.
"What for?"
"So you can wipe the drool dripping down your chin as you gawk at Hamid."
Daphne instinctively lifted a hand to her chin and then pursed her lips as Veronica doubled over.
"Ha ha."
"Hey, no judgments here. The entire beach staring at him, Daph. But you are  the only one with access granted to all of that." Veronica pointed to Hamid and moved her finger as though she could touch his frame from afar.
"Aren't you gay?" Daphne narrowed her eyes playfully.
"Very! I'd never trade Ann with all her gorgeous curves for a guy, no matter how hot he is. But I do like to appreciate all kinds of beauty." Veronica smiled slyly. "I mean, look at that back. I can count every single muscle from here."
"Don't I know it..."
"The crazy number of the paintings and sketches you have of him speaks for itself, Daph."
The two friends giggled.
"But you know what's my favourite part of him?"
"No. What is it?"
"His arms."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Obviously they look good because they're big and powerful. But I like his arms because of how he hugs people, you know."
Veronica was so right. But Hamid's hugging skills go beyond welcoming hugs. He has a protective hug, one that he often uses to shield Daphne from the cold and unwanted attention from people neither of them liked. The comforting one, the kind of hug he offers when she's sad, tired, overwhelmed or when she didn't even realise she needed a hug.
He also has a tackle-hug. A more playful kind of hug he saved for whenever they were alone, preferably when they're in the mood for fewer clothes. And there was the "I miss you" hug. Though it has a hint of the comforting and tackle-hug, his arms grew tighter around her and followed by a relieved sigh and a “it’s so good to be home” comment.
"I agree. But his hugs aren't simply made of his arms. It’s so much more," Daphne commented as she gazed back at Hamid as he made the final point to win the match.
"Of course not." Veronica looked in the same direction. "There's also the chest..."
“That wasn’t what I meant, but yeah.”
“There are also the broad shoulders.”
"And the six-pack."
"With that V pointing towards the..."
"Uh-huh..."
They laughed again.
As Hamid left the court and sauntered over to them, Veronica stood up. "That's my cue to step in."
"Okay. Have fun at the game!"
"I have a feeling you’ll have so much more fun than I will, but thanks!"
Veronica briefly hugged Hamid and rushed to the sand to join Annabelle's team.
Once he was close enough, Daphne knelt on the chaise and greeted him with a smile. "Hi there."
"Hi..." He closed the distance between them and captured her lips in a searing kiss.
As her fingers toyed with the waistband of his swim trunks, he whispered. "We're lucky this beach is nearly desert this week. We'd cause quite the scandal with a kiss like that."
“Would we?”
"Mmhmm..."
"That would be so bad..." She purred.
“So, so bad…” He murmured between kisses.
"I think we should go back to our room then."
Hamid pulled away and gazed at her with a curious look. "Now?!"
Daphne nodded with a mischievous grin.
"I have no idea what caused this, but who am I to object?" He replied with a smile nearly as sinful as hers.
Hand in hand, the two of them left the shore and disappeared into the hotel lobby.

🛒 ⛔ ❌
Hi, Lily! ❤️ I hope you're doing well.
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I use omniscient narrative a lot because I like adding characters' body language, thoughts and feelings and some scene descriptions. My fics come to me as if there were sneak peeks of a movie and I do my best to connect those little scenes together and put into words so the reader can visualize the story as well.
I also like adding details about characters that they're not mine as I write. It's nothing that will alter their essence and make them ooc. Just a few quirks, traits and little memories to make them more realistic to me. E.g. giving Prince Hamid allergy to seafood and Rafael Aveiro had long hair until he was five.
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?
Oh, I have tons of those 😌
I had a Treasure Hunters AU fic for Kamilah Sayeed x MC that I didn't write because I realized I know very little about Kamilah and nothing about treasure hunts. My only reference was White Collar (a series that I love in which the main character goes on many "treasure hunts", so to speak 😁). I even tried watching Indiana Jones to see if I could get some inspiration, but there are too many scenes with snakes in the movie and I have ophidiophobia... So I closed the Netflix tab and said "yeah, not gonna happen..." 😅
I planned Professional Rivals AU for Miss Parsons x F!OC. Annabelle would be a professional actress and dancer making an audition for the main character of a play and Veronica (F!OC) would audition for the same part, but one of the producers of the play would suggest Veronica to play as the love interest. Lots of wlw cute scenes, some drama (because why not). But I had creative block back then and stopped writing. When I decided to continue that story, it was gone. I had to hard reset my phone a few times last year and I thought I had saved all my wips in one of my cloud storage accounts. I think I deleted it by accident while removing old outlines and first drafts. I kinda want to try again, but I don't know where to start... 🙁
There was a part of the fandom that was crazy about Niles Edison and an anon asked me to write a Niles Edison x MC for 2019 Kinktober. I wasn't crazy about him. Most of the time, I barely remembered he was there. (There's Fabien, Tillie, Rye and Eris in THM! No offense to who likes Niles, why would I care about some random white old dude?). But I was trying to be the "yay! send me fic requests, people!" kind of writer and said yes. That was my biggest mistake as fanfic writer, btw. With time, I realized I was getting overwhelmed trying to answer requests for ships I didn't like in hopes people would read my stories and they still didn't. So I hit the "fuck this shit" button and decided to write just what I know I will have fun writing and reading.
During that same year I was trying to be a people pleaser, I got tons of requests of certain person who kept sending me N*FW sentences prompts that I often found OOC for the characters involved. But since this person is no longer part of Choices fandom, I deleted the outlines I did for those requests and live my life blissfully knowing that person won't pester me with a new request 😁
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
ABO. I tried, but every time something about mating, heat cycles and bestiality came up, it became hard for me to read 😣
The only stories involving werewolves that I liked were Blood Moon IF and Lust Under The Moon (Moments). I didn't read Blood Moon enough to understand its universe (I started reading it in the very beginning. I think it only had four chapters and I read one), but in LUTM mating was a choice, not some Twilight imprinting thing.
Thanks for the ask, dear!
Have a wonderful weekend 😘
[ask me stuff about my writing, people]

Love Language
Author's note: Another late submission to @choicesnovchallenge2021. [Original characters are creations of this author. The others are owned by Pixelberry Studios] Book: Desire & Decorum (modern day AU) Pairing: Annabelle Parsons x F!OC (Veronica) Rating: T Word count: 638 Reading time: ~3min Summary: When only poetry and music can express their kind of love, Annabelle and Veronica simply feel it. Based on the prompts: Choices November Challenge - day five: Portuguese / Fanatismo
Tumblr media
The smell of fresh baked bread wafted to the bedroom, capturing Veronica's attention. She wasn't much of a fan of waking up early unless she had classes or go to work. On a day off, chances were she'd never leave the room. But this wasn't a regular morning.
Lying on Annabelle's bed, Veronica smiled to herself, glad she accepted the invitation to stay over for the first time. Not because her girlfriend was preparing breakfast, most likely to eat in bed, like they talked about the night before. Her bedroom at the sorority house was nice, but Annabelle's perfume faded with time. But at her lover's apartment, everything smelled like her.
As the smell of coffee grew stronger, she got out of bed, put on some random joggers and a blouse that belonged to her girlfriend and made her way to the kitchen. By the counter, Annabelle arranged cold cut boards in a plate and smiled proudly at her handiwork. From where Veronica was standing, she could swear her lover just made an edible collage. Veronica chuckled.
Before Annabelle noticed her, Veronica sauntered over and hugged her girlfriend from behind.
"Oh shi—" Annabelle yelped in response. "Veronica!"
"Hey, beautiful." Veronica whispered, brushing her girlfriend's hair away to kiss her neck.
"You almost made me drop the plate!"
"But you didn't." Veronica grinned and reached for the remote control of a Bluetooth speaker and a melodious song began.
Annabelle turned around and narrowed her eyes. "That doesn't mean you can just—" She trailed off as she was guided into a slow dance. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Dancing with my girlfriend." Veronica's hands ran down her lover's sides, reveling in the feeling of being so close.
"Vee, the eggs are going to burn..."
"Not anymore." Veronica reached for the stove burner with one hand and turned it off. "Indulge me, Ann," she murmured and began to sing softly as they glided around the table.
"Minh'alma de sonhar-te anda perdida, /Meus olhos andam cegos de te ver. / Não és sequer a razão do meu viver / pois que tu és já toda minha vida…"
Veronica smiled as Annabelle relaxed in her arms and followed her lead, swaying to a rhythm so familiar to her.
“Não vejo nada assim enlouquecida, / passo no mundo meu amor a ler / no misterioso livro do teu ser / a mesma história tantas vezes lida...”
"Do you remember that Florbela Espanca's poem you liked?" Veronica asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"A Brazilian singer created a song for that poem and now we're dancing to it."
Annabelle's eyes widened as she met Veronica's, who spun her around and held her close, pressing Annabelle to her chest. Though Annabelle didn't understand Portuguese, she recognized the passionate lyrics, that combined to a melodious guitar rhythm, has its meaning intensified.
"It's beautiful, Vee."
"I agree." I've always dreamt to love like this."
"Did you..." Annabelle bit down her lip nervously as they continued to sway. "Did you ever love someone like this?"
"No. But I can feel it building up inside me."
Veronica spun Annabelle again, so they gazed into each other's eyes once more. For a moment, she could swear she saw fear in her gray eyes.
"You don't have to respond to it. I know it's a lot."
"It's not that. I..." Annabelle closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I already feel it."
Veronica's eyebrows rose in astonishment, but soon a slow smile followed. "Well, aren't you full of surprises, Miss Parsons?"
The two of them exchanged glances once more, then Annabelle rested her head on Veronica's shoulder. "Can you keep singing it to me?"
Veronica nodded and sang along as they continued to dance. "Podem voar mundos, morrer astros / que tu és como um Deus, princípio e fim. / Podem voar mundos, morrer astros / que tu és como um Deus, princípio e fim."

Daphne went to each one of her classes, just like she did every day since she enrolled at Cornell University to study History of Art. Usually, she was one the best students, always taking notes, making insightful remarks, engaging on all kinds of extracurricular activities to be as occupied as possible and avoid thinking about her ex-boyfriend walking down the campus with his new girlfriend. However, during that particular day after Halloween, Daphne was quieter, distracted, lost in her own thoughts. As she walked towards the cafeteria to have lunch, she mused at the events of the previous night.
When Daphne opened the door to the cafeteria, Briar immediately spotted her and waved, signaling for her to join her at the table. During her early teens, Daphne realized that having lunch at the cafeteria of her school wasn't any different from any social gatherings her grandmother and stepmother obligated her to attend. There was always a group of people she had to impress, her small group of friends, another one she would prefer to ignore and the mean girls' group. In both situations, the latter was led by Felicity Holloway and her minions, Theresa Sutton and Donna Bowman.
In college, however, things were easier. The same group of mean girls somehow managed to follow her overseas, but there were no longer obligations to impress anyone, no relatives pushing her to socialize and have proper manners and her group of friends was bigger and more diverse. Even though she missed her father and stepbrother, the university campus felt each day more like home than Edgewater.
"But the trick is to loosen up. Your whole body goes with the flow," Briar made a gracious gesture with her hands that spread along her body like a soft wave.
"Nice moves, Bri," Bartholomew praised as Artur hungrily gazed at her.
"Thanks," she beamed.
"Ah, this is so beautiful. I wish I knew how to dance like that," Annabelle sighed.
"But that is the beauty of biodanza. These movements will come so naturally once you let go of inhibitions you won't even notice you're doing it. Come to the session, I know you'll like it."
"You know what? I'll do it," Annabelle smiled.
"Me too. This actually sounds more fun than watching the basketball practices," Bartholomew enthused.
"Why do you go to basketball practices anyway?" Annabelle queried.
"To look at tall and sweaty guys," Bartholomew winked as Annabelle gave him a sideways glance and Luke chortled.
"Luke?" Briar gave him a pleading look.
"Sorry, Bri. I'll be on the practice Bartie here doesn't think it'll be fun," he replied, patting his friend shoulder. "Maybe on the next session?"
"Okay, you're safe this time. I'm not even asking you because you can't miss it," Briar turned to Arthur and kissed him on the cheek. "Hey, Daph, are you coming to biodanza session with us?"
She didn't respond. She barely said two sentences during lunch. Daphne spent most of the time admiring the trees outside, daydreaming or glancing at her phone.
"Daphne?" Luke furrowed his brows.
"Well, I say she's coming with us, like it or not," Briar commanded.
"She isn't even listening to us. What's up with her today?" Annabelle asked.
"She's thinking about a certain Turkish prince," Briar winked.
"You don't mean a prince as in an actual heir to a throne, do you?" Bartholomew inquired confused.
"Of course she doesn't. There's no such thing as a Turkish prince. Turkey is a republic country for almost a century," Annabelle rolled eyes.
"But the thing is that he is a descendant from the Turkish sultans, so technically he is a prince. And he must be a pretty good one. I mean, look at her. They've been texting all morning and she can't stop checking the phone to see if he replied," Briar nudged her friends to look at Daphne glancing at her phone, putting it back on her shoulder bag only to pick it up and look again.
As her friends continue to talk, Daphne contemplated at the view outside the cafeteria when her phone buzzed. "Hello?"
"Hello, little angel," Hamid answered, his sweet voice making Daphne relax. "Sorry I didn't answer your texts sooner. Politicians talk too much. How are you?"
"I'm fine, thanks. How about you? Did you survive the meeting?"
"Barely, but thanks to you, I managed to have a good morning."
"To me?"
"Yes, the green smoothie and your funny texts have saved this poor foreign diplomat from dying of boredom," his voice sounded lower and enticing. Daphne immediately blushed and her friends began to mock her, giggling, pretending to swoon and making kissing sounds. "What is that noise?"
"I'm having lunch in the cafeteria with my friends and they're being jerks," she said, throwing bread crumbs at Briar, who dodged the attack giggling.
"I'd like to meet them someday," he added.
"I don't know about that."
"Why not?"
"Because if they keep being as stupid and annoying as they are right now, you're gonna have to help me finding new ones." Sshe glared at them covering their mouths to muffle their laughter.
"That can certainly be arranged." Hamid chuckled. "Anyway, as a thank you for saving me this morning, I'd like to invite you to watch a movie. I have a friend who studies Film and he said tonight there are going to exhibit some 80's classics."
"Really? Which ones?"
"Dirty Dancin’, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club... They're going to exhibit movies until 4 am."
"Those movies are great. Count me in."
"First movie starts at 8:45. Can I pick you up at eight?"
"Yes," she couldn't help but smile.
"Terrific. I'll see you at eight."
"See you then." She hung up, staring at her phone and smiling to herself. She barely knew him, but for some reason she couldn't quite fathom, there was something about him that made her heart skip a beat.
"Soooo... You're going to see him again, huh?" Briar's voice pulled Daphne out of her reverie.
"Didn't you meet him yesterday? What's with the rush?" Annabelle grumbled.
"He works fast. I respect that," Luke acknowledged.
"When is your date with the Turkish prince charming?" Bartholomew wiggled his eyebrows.
"First of all, it's not a date. Second, Stop calling him that. And third, it's tonight at eight."
"You can't go. We have biodanza session. We're all going," Briar ordered.
"I never agreed to this," Daphne protested.
"Daph, please, come with us. It'll be fun and you will be so relaxed and ready to date," Briar begged.
"It's not a date!" Daphne hissed.
"Uh-huh," Bartholomew rolled eyes grinning.
Luke elbowed Bartholomew and added. "Doesn't the session end at seven? I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to get ready."
"Not when you have Miss 'unsolicited fashion critiques and advice' as a roommate," Daphne rebuked.
"My choice of costume for you made you pretty and got you your Turkish prince charming in less than one hour at the party last night. Do not forget that." Briar folded her arms.
"Stop calling him that!" Daphne growled.
"Enough!" Annabelle spat. "Briar, settle down. She's going, I'm going, we're all going," she reasoned before turning to Daphne. "We're going to have dinner after the biodanza session and you'll go home and have the apartment Briar free so you can dress as you see fit for the occasion. We'll stop calling him Prince Charming as soon you introduce him to us and not a minute sooner. And the jury in this table will decide tomorrow at lunch if it's a date or not right after you give us the details."
"That is ridiculous," Daphne nagged.
"That's how we work and you know it. Suck it up. Now let's finish our meals before we get late," Annabelle declared and the table went silent for several minutes.
"You guys are paying," Briar mumbled and the three men looked at each other chuckling.
Tumblr media
"Okay, this is weird," Annabelle scrutinized the dimly lit room filled with patchouli scent in the air.
"Can you not judge the book by the cover?" Briar scowled removing her shoes putting them on a rack by the door. "Shoes!" She yelled at her friends, who exchanged wary glances but obliged without saying a word.
"She could've at least have told us we were about to enter a hipster sanctuary," Bartholomew mumbled and Daphne elbowed him.
A tall slender middle-aged woman entered the room and gathered the people in a semicircle. "Welcome. My name is Ruth and you'll about to embark on a journey to find your true self. The first hour we will in smalls and in the last one we will work in pairs. We don't need warm-ups, choreographies or worry about how the class will go. Our goal is to live the here and now. Relax and let the rhythm guide you," she minced across the room and turn on the music player. A lively yet slow pace experimental song come out of the speakers and the people began to spread all over the place, moving aimlessly around the room.
During the first hour, Annabelle, Arthur, Bartholomew, Briar and Daphne danced together between hushed chats, giggling and many shushing noises coming from almost everyone in the class. But as the song changed marking the moment where the session would go from group activities to pairs, Briar and Arthur began to dance together and Bartholomew promptly laced his arms with Daphne, leaving Annabelle by herself.
Bart and Daphne mouthed “sorry”, but Annabelle glared at her friends and walked away, heading towards a corner when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around rest to find a petite brunette woman smiling at her. The woman's hand ran down Annabelle her arm at the same pace of the song, then grasped her hand and squeezed it gently, guiding her to the side of the room next to the window.
The stranger shimmied her hips to the beat of the song, her hands drawing imaginary waves in the air. Annabelle watched the woman dance mesmerized by her carefree yet elegant movements. Her sand skin glowed with sweat, but she smelled like flowers. She smiled at Annabelle and held her hand, encouraging her to dance.
Following the woman's lead, Annabelle swayed into the rhythm, her eyes never leaving her the stranger's. She didn't have any complaints about her life lately, but at that moment, dancing with that woman she had never seen before, she felt lighter, peaceful, alive. And she had never met someone who could make her feel like that without saying a word. Before she knew, the session was over.
"Thanks for the dance," the woman said softly.
"Thank you..."
"Veronica," the woman added and walked away, then stopped to look back over her shoulder. "See you next class, Annabelle."
Annabelle froze, staring blankly at the door.
"So, did you guys like it?" Briar chirped, her arms wrapped around Arthur as everyone gathered around.
"So much fun," Bartholomew cheered.
"Pretty cool. But I have to go now. I'll see you all tomorrow," Daphne replied, quickly hugging everyone and startling Annabelle. "Ann?" She eyed her friend bemused.
Annabelle blinked a few times then recomposed herself and returning the hug.
"And you said I was distracted today," Daphne teased.
"She's probably still on trance from the class," Arthur grinned.
"Sure..."  Bartholomew said, exchanging glances with Daphne and smiling.
Annabelle rolled her eyes then turned to Daphne. "I hope you have fun on your date with your prince."
"If I have as much as you did with Veronica, I'll definitely call it a date," Daphne whispered.
Annabelle went pale as her friend kissed her cheek and waved goodbye.
Tumblr media
The soft beat of a pop song played on the portable speaker whilst Daphne put on a pair of earrings when her doorbell rang. She ran across the apartment barefoot to answer it. "Yes?"
"Good evening, Miss Wang. Mr. Osmanoğlu is here to see you."
"Shit, I'm late..." she mumbled.
"What?" The concierge asked.
"Sorry!” Daphne smacked her forehead. “Yeah, you can send him in. Tell him I'll leave the door open," she replied and running back to her room.
Hamid opened the door and scanned the surroundings for a moment. The living room had a minimalist yet elegant decoration and a few books on the coffee table. On the sideboard, a glass sculpture of a couple dancing and above it, a watercolour painting of a tall Caucasian man and an Asian woman in a chic white dress who reminded him of Daphne. He smiled musing at the painting when a scent of roses enticed his senses.
“I’m glad someone appreciates my paintings. My stepmother didn’t like it much," Daphne said coming out of her room.
Hamid smiled at the sound of her voice. "Not everyone likes watercolour paintings, but I think it's—" he trailed off as he turned around to see Daphne in a green long sleeve sweater, dark blue jeans, brown boots and her hair pulled into a side braid. "You look... Wow," he praised.
"Thank you. You look pretty nice too when you're not dressed as a Greek god," Daphne's eyes marvelled at Hamid in a white shirt, black leather jacket and black trousers.
"You flatter me, little angel. Shall we go?"
She nodded and they left the apartment towards the elevator. The ride to the drive-in theatre was short. He parked in the centre of the parking lot and opened the windows.
Daphne stared in awe at the perfect view of the large screen. "This spot is great and we didn't even have to arrive early. You must be very well connected."
"Eighties movies night was my best friend’s idea and I helped making it happen. I guess it's only fair I earned a nice spot," he winked. "I'm going to buy some snacks. Do you want something?"
"Yes, popcorn," she answered, reaching for her purse.
"Don't worry about that."
"But we should split the bill. I mean, this is not a date. We're two friends watching a movie together. I should pay for my part."
"Well, I invited you and I say it's my treat. You paid for most of the drinks last night."
"No, I didn't. You gave your credit card to the cashier before I could find mine in my purse."
He chuckled. "You're very slow when you're drunk. The cashier was growing old there."
"Hey!" She glared at him.
"Daphne, it's fine. I'll let you pay next time if you're fast enough."
"Hamid, I don't want you to pay for everything."
"Alright, I get it. But then again, I said I wanted to repay you for helping me deal with my hangover. If you didn't send me the smoothie recipe, a preposterous international bill that could ruin my country's economy would've passed."
"Really? But we were texting most of the time. I didn't assume that the meeting was important."
"It was, but those were the moments I was letting the other people in the room rant about it. And their fights aren't nearly as amusing as your knowledge on memes," he grinned.
"Oh my god..." She blurted, covering her eyes with one hand.
"I mean it. You might think it's silly, I'd probably died out of boredom if I paid attention to any of the discussions during the meeting if you weren't talking to me. Popcorn and a few candy bars are small prices to pay considering you helped me achieve today. So… Is that all you want now or can I get you anything else?" He asked smiling softly.
Why is his smile so alluring? Ugh! "A soda."
"All right. I'll pick up our orders," he said before leaving the car.
On his way, he was stopped by a few people.
"Osman, my dude! Nice car," a tall blond man said as he approached and they talked briefly.
From his way to the checkout counter and back to the car, five other people talked to Hamid, including Donna Bowman, who shamelessly flirted with him. Daphne took off the seat belt and watched Hamid flash his impeccable smile to everyone who talked to him.
Man alive! How many people is he going to charm before the movie starts?
Hamid made his way back to the car, carrying a tray with a large popcorn bucket, two sodas, candy bars and liquorice.
"I didn't tell me you were you're so popular," Daphne commented as she grabbed her cup of soda.
"I am not. Most of these people just know what I do for a living and think their compliments will get them something," he replied, lifting the liquorice stick to his lips.
"You deal with the attention so easily. I can barely handle my classmates asking for my notes before an exam."
"So you're popular too, huh?" He joked.
"They just want to copy my notes because I'm the class president," Daphne shrugged.
"Sure... That is exactly why your classmates go to you. Notes." He smirked.
"What?"
He chuckled. "I lost count of how many times I used that line in my life. I would've probably used the ‘can we go to my place to study?’ on you if our fields of study weren't so remotely related."
Daphne shook her hand, feeling her cheeks heat as he gazed at her with a cheeky smile. "Do you always hit on your female friends?"
"When I have friends as beautiful and smart as you, yes. And since you've mentioned, I have to ask: do you always kiss your male friends right after you just met them?"
"That didn't count. You were helping me get away from a really awkward conversation with my ex and his way too blond and mean new girlfriend."
"What about those three other kisses last night?" Hamid asked, resting an elbow on the passenger seat and staring at her.
"I was drunk and you're—" Daphne trailed off as she realized how close he was.
The fluttering sensation in her stomach increased as his eyes met hers and he leaned in, kissing her. Goosebumps formed along her back as his hand caressed the nape of her neck and he nipped her ear. Hamid dotted kisses back to her lips and she melted into his embrace.
He pulled away and smiled mischievously. "Oh, I'm sorry. You were saying?"
Daphne playfully punched him, but he grinned, wrapping his arms around her and turning to the screen to watch the movie.
"Just because we kissed, it doesn't count as a date," Daphne said quietly.
He cocked an eyebrow. "And pray tell, what would make it a date?"
"Flowers," she uttered, biting her lower lip discreetly.
"I did think of stealing a few tulips from the embassy gardens this afternoon, but the guards were there. I guess I'll have to bribe the gardener on our next date," he joked.
"It's not—" She was interrupted by another long and slow kiss that left her breathless.
"I won't tell anyone if you won't." He smiled against her lips and turned to look at the screen.
Daphne rested her head on his shoulder, eating popcorn and watching the movie as they relished each other's company until she fell asleep in his arms.

Lori's Favorite Fics - Lockdown Edition #1
Tumblr media
It's been awhile, but I'm back with the reviews!
Tumblr media
I explained a little why I haven’t written the reviews, but to sum up, I haven’t read much during quarantine and I'm still shocked it's May because it feels like March had 200 days and April lasted a week 😅 So, instead of trying to remember what day we are and when I read fics x, y and z, welcome to my favorite fics of lockdown!
Blades of Light and Shadow
Tyril x Elf M!MC drabble: I’m not going to lie, I only have eyes for Nia. But I adore how @lilyofchoices writes the relationship between Tyril and Maiele (Elf M!MC). This particular piece of Tyril waking up in the middle of the night and musing about it is truly a delight to read. Check out her other drabbles if you can.
She | Nia Ellarious x Elf F!MC:My precious priestess has fics! *pause for a victory breakdance* @melodyofgraves wrote this lovely one shot about Aurora's (MC) love for Nia and the description is simply to die for 😍
Desire & Decorum
Midnight Kisses | Mr. Chambers x Mr. Konevi: I miss these adorable characters so much and stumbling upon this piece in which @the-writerly-night-owl writes Mr. Chambers and Mr. Konevi go from a heavy make out to cuddling with Mr. Chambers's daughter is wonderful. Cutest side characters ever!
Not Goodbye | Annabelle Parsons x MC: @kenna-and-val-are-my-queens broke my heart with this one shot, but I forgive him (love you, M!) because it’s so well written and Annabelle is so character
Prince Hamid short stories - Braid My Hair | Rapunzel: My comment about these two pieces could be a long list of gifs of people fangirling, but @missameliep fics deserve a proper review 😄 To answer two requests about Hamid braiding his daughter's hair, Dani wrote two heartwarming short stories related to her canon divergent series The Pursuit of Happiness and her modern day AU Second Chances. It’s too adorable to see him braiding his talkative daugther’s hair and looking for braid tutorials on the internet as he recalls past experiences with his sisters and Elizabeth. If you're a Hamid stan or just loves fluff, you have to read them.
Open Heart
Melt My Worries | Rafael x F!MC: Based on a scene of Open Heart book one which is great because Open Heart 2 doesn't exist to me, @simplymissjulia reminded me why I love Raf writing this adorable piece. He takes Bella (MC) to the street market, introduces her to best street food in Boston, dances with her and they kiss. And this is the only sort of Rafael content I need to see.
Ride Or Die
The Bet | Logan x MC: I saw this fic a while ago and I was shook with how sexy and enticing this piece is. Based on chapter three, when Ellie bets a kiss while playing pool, Logan takes her away from prying eyes and things get reaaally steamy. This make out sesh is a superb work and still remains PG-13. Well done, @choicesarehard !
Unrequited | Ximena x MC friendship: Friendship fics are so underrated. This fic in which Ximena comforts Maria (MC) after she confessed her feelings for Toby is a lovely piece to read. @troublemakerinspace told me it was her first RoD fic in the fandom and OMG I wish my first fic here was this good.
Rules of Engagement
Football is the best | Leo x OC: When @xxrainbow-princessxx writes Leo being a dad, I know it's going to be good. But Leo being a dad and watching a football match with his daughter Natalia who mimicks all his reactions to the game is just too cute to handle 😍
The Royal Romance
Somewhere Else | Drake x MC: I keep saying I rarely read TRR fics, but sometimes I have to make exceptions. @mauldings posted her masterlist on Choices Fanfic Writer's group so everyone could read her work and I was completely blown away by her Drake x MCs. I swear I would have given Drake a chance instead of toying with his pixelated heart hahaha if his chemistry with MC was like this to me.
