#mission update: paradox displacement

"You're Brandy, right? I'm Lark, the new transfer in from Fiore".
The young man (sort of) who has approached Brandy is in his mid-to-late twenties. His eyes are a bright, goatlike yellow, though perfectly human in shape. His hair is dark brown, except for a loose tuft in the front that's a minty pastel green. A fairly ordinary-looking mud-brown rockruff sits politely by his side. The ranger is wearing a Fiore-style uniform: black-and-white underlayer with a bright red short-sleeved jacket. The only addition is a he/they pronoun pin at the collar. He's got a capture styler on his belt near easy reach of his right hand, and a set of six ultra-balls for the off-hand on his left.
Lark saluted. He tried to make the gesture a little more casual. But being in a new region surrounded by new people and pokemon on a serious mission had ramped up his tendency to fall back on rules and order, so the gesture ended up at about 90% crisp, textbook formality.
"I've read all the paperwork the union sent over, and some Paldean ranger guides, but as the person on the ground I figure you have the best idea of where I'll be most useful."
Brandy blinked, taking a moment to take in the ranger before her. She had stopped in to check in on some reports of the most recent paradox escapees, and been informed that one of the contract hires had arrived and was waiting to check in. She knew they were coming from Fiore. She was expecting the new face. What she was not expecting was the classic, textbook Ranger From a Ranger Region walking stereotype to greet her. She'd have found it a little funny if she weren't so dog tired.
"Hey. Nice to meet ya, Lark. You super don't need to do that. I'm not much one for formalities." And true to her word, Brandy did not look the slightest bit like a professional. She was wearing her red Union-issued jacket and styler, but that was about it for the official uniform. Under the jacket she wore plain black athletic wear and some well worn boots. Her black hair was pulled back into less of a messy bun and more of a sloppy bun, the kind of which would make any MUA girly feel faint.
She pushed off the counter that she had been leaning against to talk to the operator behind it. At her feet a small, slightly fat poochyena looked up at her expectantly.
"This is Macaroon, by the way. Not my partner, just a part of my little pack. She hangs out at the base when I'm out on missions." Macaroon wagged her tail a little at the mention. A keen observer would notice a distinct lack of protruding fangs and overbite that the species was known for.
"Welcome to Paldea. And hey, thanks for offering to help out. We do really need it. C'mon, let's take a walk around outside. We got a couple pokemon out in our pastures that you'll want to meet."

Surviving Mars: Green Planet is the second major expansion for the game. Since this gives players the power to turn the Red Planet green. So you can open the domes. Thanks to the introduction of Terraforming Parameters. These Terraforming Parameters also add new layers of strategic depth. Since Surviving Mars is affected by new terraforming buildings. Also completing special projects. While seeding vegetation across the planet’s surface. Hoping to make Mars capable of supporting human life. A dditionally, Mars has become pet friendly with the Project Laika animal pack that brings a variety of pets and livestock to the alien world -- but keep an eye on those pets because some of your colonists’ companions may surprise you. Check out the Surviving Mars: Green Planet feature breakdown. Also the new gameplay features in action. The free Armstrong update continues the mission to enhance the core. Improving the Surviving Mars experience for everyone. Armstrong adds a host of gameplay features. Including landscaping tools. This allow players to change the topology of the planet’s surface. Doing so to fit their needs.
Armstrong Update includes:
5 Landscaping Tools and Buildings: Flatten terrain, create ramps, change surface texture, and construct rock formations to fit your colony’s needs. Landscaping does not require research and is available at the start of the game. Make sure you monitor your resources while landscaping the planet. All that displaced rock and dirt has to go somewhere in Surviving Mars!
3 Special Projects: Now you can capture meteors, launch high-speed comm satellites, and even launch a SETI satellite. These special projects become available when the first batch of Planetary Anomalies gets discovered and do not require previous research.
2 New Buildings: Players can build a Large Dumping Site and Rocket Construction Site for their colonies. The Large Dumping Site is available right away and gives you a place to put all the excess Waste Rock while the Rocket Construction Site allows you to build rockets after you have researched Advanced Rocketry.
20 New Events: These events add more variety at the early stages of Surviving Mars. So be on the lookout!
New Research UI: Revamped research interface.
Surviving Mars: Green Planet features include:
Terraforming: Terraform Mars and make the hostile planet habitable for humanity. Each decision you make while managing your colony. That can affect the Terraforming Parameters. Since this includes Atmosphere, Temperature, Water, and Vegetation. Also this ideally brings them closer to habitable levels. Monitor your progress on a planetary scale. Doing so with the Planetary Overview UI. Once you’ve made the atmosphere breathable. Open the domes and let your colonists breathe Martian air!
Green Mars: Seed the surface in Surviving Mars with various lichen. Also grass, shrubs, or trees and watch as they begin to turn the Red Planet green. Low maintenance plants like Lichen can improve the soil quality. Helping more complex plants grow while Trees produce high seed yields for your colony to harvest. Be sure to monitor your soil quality levels. Keep your plants healthy and growing.
Special Projects: Take on seven challenging Special Projects. Such as melting the polar caps. Also capturing ice asteroids and launching a space mirror. Begin shifting the Terraforming Parameters. Be careful, these projects will have a lasting impact on the planet. They will also trigger natural disasters!
7 New Terraforming Buildings: Construct seven new buildings. This can also help you terraform the planet or capitalize on the changes. Use the GHG factory to release greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Use the Forestation Plant to boost vegetation production. The Surviving Mars Water Pump can fill a man made lake bed, and more.
Climate Calamities: Terraforming a planet can have unexpected consequences. So if you release too many greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. You can trigger acid rain which reduces soil quality. Or if an asteroid slams into the planet. This will cause a Mars quake that can disrupt your colony’s production.
Project Laika includes:
Animal Farm: Breed up to eight different farm animals in the Martian Pastures. Including Cows, Chickens, Pigs, and more. Farm animals can be raised for food in the new In-Dome Ranches. Or Outside Ranches, depending on their size. Which can consume more water than crops.
Martian’s Best Friend: Animal Pack features 25 different pets. All ranging from your usual suspects like cats and dogs. Even rabbits, all the way to some unexpected critters. Such as llamas, penguins and platypuses. Once you terraform the planet enough. Pets will go outside to explore nearby bushes and trees.
The Surviving Mars releases the season pass on Linux, Mac, Windows PC. Which includes the Green Planet expansion. Also the Project Laika animal pack. The Armstrong update is free to all players who own Surviving Mars. Players can purchase Surviving Mars: Green Planet and Project Laika for $19.99 USD and $5.99 USD respectively. The Green Planet Plus bundle includes both for $23.90 USD. Available for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. Available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and Paradox.

The Higgs field and the resolution of the Cosmological Constant Paradox in the Weyl geometrical Universe. (arXiv:1703.09214v8 [gr-qc] UPDATED)
The nature of the scalar field responsible for the cosmological inflation is found to be rooted in the most fundamental concept of the Weyl differential geometry: the parallel displacement of vectors in curved spacetime. Within this novel geometrical scenario, the standard electroweak theory of leptons as well as the conformal groups of spacetime Weyl transformations is analyzed within the framework of a conformally covariant scalar tensor theory that includes the electromagnetic and the Yang Mills fields. The mass of the Higgs boson, which is considered a free parameter by the standard electroweak theory by our theory is found to be proportional to the mass which contributes to the measured cosmological constant, i.e. the measured content of vacuum energy in the Universe. The peculiar mathematical structure of the effective potential offers a clue towards a general resolution of the most intriguing puzzle of modern quantum field theory, the cosmological constant paradox for all exponential inflationary potentials and for all linear superpositions of these potentials. The results of the theory are analyzed in the framework of the recent experimental data of the PLANCK Mission. The experimental values of the average vacuum energy density in the Universe and the value of the cosmological constant, Lambda, are reported. The critical stability of the Universe is discussed.

I love leaking documents 🖤
This specifies rangers, but if you don't have a ranger union in your region or can't call them for some reason it's good advice, I think. Obviously always call the Rangers if you can.

(Text sent via capture styler) We should talk about this scream tail when I get back. Apparently you've caught it before.
(text reply)
That's not super surprising, we've had some repeat escapees. Glad you were able to track it down. I'm working late today, feel free to check in when you get back.

I should be selfish more often. I'm traipsing off to go deal with an Iron Valiant in the middle of Cascarrafa because that's the most dangerous one in the most dangerous spot. I could have been selfish and lazy and tackled the Iron Bundle that's chilling on a little inlet to the north but nooooo.
Could have even opted for the Iron Thorns out in the east 3 rock field and then swung by to say hi to my trees but NOOOOO.
I just had to take the worst possible one and probably get myself injured again just because I'm a weakass little bitch who can't handle the thought of someone else getting hurt.
I have got to get eviller.

Well. The inevitable has happened. Your least favourite ranger (me) is in the hospital lads. Was out investigating a report of an escaped Iron Thorns (the tyranitar lookin’ ass). Managed to capture em, but I guess something set em off and it took a shot at me. Managed to dodge the two punches, but wasn’t fast enough to dodge the tail swipe. The other rangers that were with me + Michael were able to get em to back off, and have tagged and released it back to the crater, but I’ve now got a huge gash across the side of my thigh. They weren’t kidding when they called that thing Iron Thorns, that bitch got me good.
Still waiting to actually see a doctor, but even with my basic medical knowledge I can tell this one isn’t good. Definitely cut through at least a bit of muscle, which means months of physio and me riding a desk. And to really put the cheri on top, the cut goes clean across my tattoo. My full colour, thigh length tattoo. Do yall have any idea how much that thing *cost*? It was so damn expensive, and now it’s basically ruined because I was too stupid and slow to dodge one stupid attack.
I know I’m still gonna be able to work this mission- most of it is problem solving and pattern recognition with all the data we’re collecting but like. Idk, I really, really hate not being able to go out into the field. I’m not gonna be able to hunt with Michael, or walk through my forest, or do anything other than limp around and sit at a desk for months. I knew it was only a matter of time before I took a big hit from one of these guys, I work too closely with too many of them not to, but I really didn’t think it would be this bad. I just. Ugh.
The absolute worst part is that I knowwww I just know that since I’m not gonna be in the field much now, some hoity toity top ranger is gonna swoop in at the last minute to take credit for all of my hard work. Because heavens forbid I ever get recognition from head office for anything.

Quick update on the great tusk observations. For those of you who don't know, paradox pokemon are, in summary, fuckin insane and dangerous as hell. They don't behave at all predictably, and even when captured they are super likely to lash out at whoever is closest. They are not at all like regular pokemon, despite the visual similarities.
The Asado desert great tusk tho, as far as I can tell, is behaving almost exactly like just...a fucking huge, somewhat aggressive donphan. Like, it will still lash out at people, but in very predictable ways. The few times I've managed to successfully observe it without it noticing me I saw him protecting and even feeding not just the phanpy, but all the other Asado Desert mons as well.
Its super fuckin weird. Paradox pokemon are largely solitary, and even the ones that aren't don't interact well with pokemon outside their species. But this one is acting like it's Asado desert's caretaker pokemon.

Hey all you puffed up rangers who submitted those ranger confessions this morning. If you really wanna test you mettle there are going to be some short term contracts coming up to join the crater base here in Paldea.
They are available because the other two rangers got grievously injured on the job. So fair warning, beyond being dangerous, it's fucking exhausting. But the opportunity is there, and we do very much need the help.

Down 2 staff = racking up sooooo much OT.
I am running my ass all over Paldea with the crater crew (or what's left of it at least). Love doing fieldwork, but spending this much time running around putting out fires means we are NOT going to make any headway on this mission until we get those contracts filled.
Ooooo rotumblr rangers, you wanna apply for a super dangerous short term contract. You wanna come to Paldea so bad.

Good news: my body has evolved beyond the need for sleep, I think. I stayed up p much all night slogging through the backlog of mission reports and am on active field duty today and I have noticed zero drop in performance.
I am beyond the need for sleep. Surely this will not bite me in the ass later.

Do you have a favorite paradox?
Croissant (Tross' roaring moon)
Closely followed by the Great Tusk in Asado Desert. He's such a good mom, and really gentle if you're being chill with the phanpy herd he's raising.
Massive shout out to those two. Really restoring my faith in paradox mons tbh

Hmmm okay girlypop is going to have to meet the Navi squad on her own. Just got a call in about an Iron Treads out in Zapapico, so I'm gonna go deal with that. I'm sure she will...well I'm sure she will behave exactly the same way she always behaves tbh. Hopefully Atticus isn't put off by it, but I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be fine.
Iron Treads though. Fuckin. Booooo. The robot ones are the worst. None of em are easy to predict but I find the iron family especially difficult tbh. Really hard to get a read on em.

Update
They let me peak at the successful applicants for the short term contracts to cover off the injured crater crew. We are getting
1) a guy from Fiore with no experience dealing with trainers ever. And,
2) Bo. Love the guy, I know he's gonna read this, but I don't think he's gonna make it, guys. Refuses to listen to reason type motherfucker
No disrespect to either of them. But uuuggghhhh
