The Big Move - Finished Edition

We're done! Took the 2 of us 5 days - using 2 grocery carts. The help we were supposed to get didn't show up, but you know what? It.got.done. *dusts off hands* Do I feel like I've aged 100 years in 5 days? Maaaaaybe. :D

I do wish that someone had been taking pictures, I'm sure there were parts that would win on a funniest video show. Like Matt pulling my mattress AND me - I was only there to support the other end of the mattress I guess and I can't walk as fast as I used to. Or me ending up as the filling in a mattress sandwich. I'm still kind of sore from that, lol.

All in all, things went better than I expected. I know I did things I shouldn't have but what can you do? Nobody wants to help, you roll up your sleeves (or pretend to in my case, I hate sleeves!) and do what needs to be done.

There were a few mishaps. My sheets got ruined moving the mattresses. My bedroom rug got ink spilled on it - I SAID to watch out for my craft cart! The air mattress we had (as a backup when Matt didn't want to sleep on the futon or for company) got popped.

Now that we're moved and settling in, I've been keeping track of things we either need, will need soon or would like to get. I'm going to post links to 2 lists. One is Walmart and has small things on it. The other is Amazon and has bigger things on it - like a frame and mattress for Matt since he has a "room" (actually a BIG walk in closet) now. And a table since we have room - eating on my bed kinda sucks. I'm going to start chipping away at them as I can - the lists are to keep track of it all. I'm sharing because I wouldn't say no to a pack of toilet paper, lol.

Thinking about "your weakness is how you always want to be the hero" and how the series returns to this at the end

Li Lianhua hated how he acted as Li Xiangyi and spent years trying to distance himself from it, but ultimately he still fell back into the similar patterns, for all his added experience

His main priority was always to "do the right thing" regardless of how that would impact on those around him. And it *did* impact those around him. From Qiao Wanmian and Shan Gudao as Li Xiangyi to Fang Duobing and Di Feisheng as Li Lianhua

Giving the Styx flower to the emperor so he could use it as leverage to guarantee Fang Duobing and his family's safety. Using the last of his power to save Yun Biqiu. Constantly putting others above himself whilst actively refusing to recognise that his self-sacrificial nature would hurt those he cared about most

And sure, he thinks he's going to die anyway. They're going to be hurt regardless and he can't do anything about that. His odds are low of the Styx flower even working. But ultimately, he refuses to even consider trying. Li Xiangyi has been dead a long time and Li Lianhua is just there to tide things over. What value is the life of a ghost

To the end, he lives and dies a hero. To the end, he refuses to live for himself.

Writing the amnesiac!dfs au I mentioned a while ago and wow. (a) it's the first thing I've written in years that has plot, (b) it's going to be much longer than I originally thought, and (c) it's all a little ooc due to the amnesia and post-canon elements but. When did fdb get so mature?

Like yes, all of the care he's showing a-fei is likely redirected care that he never got to give to llh. But isn't he basically caring for llh too by caring for the only other person who carries the true memories of him? (And is he grieving llh, or is he okay because he's denying that face that he might be dead? Does he think that llh is just simply gone, and that if he hopes long enough and hard enough he'll come back?)

It was a surprise when Fang Xu came over late that night in a drunken stupor, when it was just Shen Yilang and Receptionist Yue closing up. But Bai Chuan laoshi isn't here, he bit back, watching as the other stumbled to Bai laoshi's office. As always, with everything 9-Dan Fang Xu related, the other staff did not bat an eye.

"Fang Xu qianbei is still in there," Shen Yilang protested when Receptionist Yue ushered him out, "We can't just lock him in," 

"He has a key, it's fine," Receptionist Yue said dismissively, "it's best not to question it," she added, patting him awkwardly on the arm.

Humans had a habit of glorifying the dead, he learns. Society has spun tales about Li Xiangyi, projecting him as a peerless hero, who went wherever the chaos was, saving others at risk of his own life. They paint him as an untouchable, larger than life figure.

They forget that Li Xiangyi was only 20 when he died.

Li Lianhua eventually curbs the urge to meddle in people's arguments, to look the other way when a fight occurs, and stills his tongue when someone slanders the Baichuan court.

I'm gearing up to do a rewatch of MLC to eyeball the fight scenes and whatever else I missed and then remembered that I'd chatted in the past with @difeisheng about DFS wearing FDB's clothes (with possible LLH middle and under layers) -- while I strongly suspected that DFS was wearing FDB's clothes, I didn't really know why?

So here is our handsome anti-hero-villian-nemesis at Caillen Manor, and then here's a shot right before he changes clothes --- it's night and FDB has just punted him into the pond. Look at him all wet and cranky.

And here he is the next morning.

...I think he had to borrow clothes because he didn't have any spares.

And then he just went back to Jinyuan Alliance with them.

Also, have some bonus shots of DFS in action. Check out the detail on the sleeve when the light catches it just right. Shaoye's taste isn't bad.

The time has come for all MLCs to say farewell. When I got Boop I promised his foster/rescuer that I'd make it work and I have - at the cost of a few cancelled streaming services (no big loss) and the internet and that has been cut off (haven't paid that since we got him). Add to that the fact that since Amazon changed which receipts they accept for their Shoppers Panel, I'll have a hard time making that whopping $10 a month. So every extra penny I'll ever get will be going towards my Boop. Love yas but sometimes it's time to know when to bow out gracefully. Or in my case, semi-gracefully. (Ok, less than that, stumbling out the door is more like it. Haha.)

Note: I'll still have my phone at least. And no, I don't regret getting Boop. I love him, he loves me and he's been so good for my mental health. He's worth it.

absolutely entranced by shows that are majorly silly but still manage to nail the angst

#this is the formula unfortunately that has both mlc and wcl still spinning around in my head #I keep writing wcl posts especially and having to relegate them to my drafts because I'm going on so many tangents #and having seen donghua and live action for wcl keeps me drawing so many comparisons but it's so fascinating #to see which aspects they retained vs which aspects were introduced. and ofc been making my way properly thru the manhua too #(as opposed to reading random panels and checking for donghua comparison reasons) which is just letting me appreciate that #honestly both adaptations are really good at what they do (donghua wrt qsj + lang bailing. cdrama wrt qiubing + side charas) #but yeah for both wcl and mlc they both know and engage with the ridiculousness so when the tone shifts you pay attention #trigun further down the angst scale as default but also a good example of silly-angsty ping pong #ooh dw too actually. okay I shut up now but yeah

A work in progress, but I thought I would share the contents of my spread sheet so far.

I've focused more on the boys so far just because I am more familiar with the BL GMMTV shows. But! I want this to be as inclusive and wide ranging as possible so any expertise in het or other QL GMMTV shows would be much appreciated, as well as those familiar with older GMMTV BL. Mlc au where li lianhua just. Doesn't re-enter the jianghu. He has a couple of Big Realisations and disassociates so hard that li xiangyi is permanently dead now and he's not touching that shit with a ten foot pole.

He still meets fang duobing except they meet during on of fdb's probationary cases because he's like, sprained his wrist. He's also bleeding a lil' bit everywhere so when he sits down at the booth where llh has set up shop llh is like who is this yucky boy. Fdb is like daifu I'll pay you x amount of money to heal me. Llh ups his first impression to yucky rich boy.

Anyway it turns about when llh isn't there to guide him fdb is really reckless. But guess what! He always meets li-daifu wherever his case is! Isn't it a miracle? (Llh is long-suffering. Why does this (his, unfortunately) yucky little rich boy keep coming back to him)

Very soon fdb starts giving him gifts instead of money (because he has no money management skills). He starts off small like flowers and little soaps then desserts and then suddenly he's showing up with a set of fancy robes for llh (who had seen fdb looking at him all intently when he was estimating his measurements and thought he was checking him out. It was the start of a minor - soon to be major and ongoing - crisis) (but it turns out he likes the fucking robes).

At some point fdb runs into A Spot during one of his cases and declares, to everyone in the vicinity, that he's li xiangyi's disciple. This is overheard by di feisheng's spymaster (I CANNOT remember what his name is) who reports it back to dfs, who is like hmm, interesting.

And obviously, the most logical response here is to kidnap him and announce that he has li xiangyi's disciple held hostage.

Llh hears of this, scoffs because xiaobao can take care of himself, paces for ten minutes, and then grumbles to himself while grabbing his sword and booking it. He bursts onto the scene and it's all like:

Dfs: ...li xiangyi? You're alive?

Fdb: li lianhua-daifu!!! ...why do you have a sword.

Dfs: oh, i get it, you went into hiding. *shaking fdb* is this your new boytoy

Llh: di feisheng! Unhand him, he's a paying customer!

Dfs, nodding: I see. Boyfriend then. But you haven't had the balls to court him properly, huh

They have an argument that is actually just them exchanging small talk. Fdb is slowly dying because this is dfs, villain of the jianghu, so why is he having a reaction to him scruffing him like a kitten? Also, is li-daifu actually li xiangyi???

Long story short about three weeks later dfs arrives for dinner. And then he just. Keeps showing up. The third time he shows up fdb is there also having dinner with llh. They bristle at each other like street cats but eventually it becomes a Thing That They Do.

(In the background dfs is picking up the fucking slack and destroying the whole nanyin revival plot. Fdb keeps unintentionally and accidentally foiling related plots as he takes cases)

(Fdb: I found this in my latest case and I don't know what it is. *holds up the Rama heavenly ice shard or whatever it is*

Dfs: ...it's a screwdriver.

Fdb, who has never seen a screwdriver in his life*: oh, okay *sticks in a drawer of the lotus tower and immediately forgets about it*)

(Dfs thinks it's amusing bordering on ridiculous because fdb just keeps bringing these artifacts back. But he doesn't know what they are and neither does llh so the lotus tower is turning out to be a really safe place to put them)

Also because this version of llh actually knows from the start that he wants to live. He just never actively looked for a cure because he didn't have much to live for in his little life. But now he does so he accepts the Styx flower or whatever dfs finds for him and they all live happily ever after.

(*Edit: oh I'm an idiot. Of COURSE fdb knows what a screwdriver is. He lives with the Queen of Inventing Clever Things (master he my beloved) for god's sake. I think if he knew dfs was lying to him he wouldn't be able to let it go, since we all know how he is. So I don't know what dfs would actually tell him lmao)
