The golden blade whizzed through the air lightning-fast and embedded itself up to the hilt in the driftwood target.

THUNK!

"Woah." Ripley mumbled, and she saw her mother's fins twitch as she heard her.

"Ripples, is that you?" Goldie ducked down to look beneath the benches that surrounded the training arena.

"Over here, Mom." Ripley peeked out from the bench she was hiding beneath, claws scraping on the rough sandstone. Goldie grinned.

"What are you doing under there, ya goofball?"

"Watching you." Ripley said.

"Hiding 'cause you didn't finish all your chores yet?" Goldie teased.

"Maybe." Ripley scuffed her feet in the sand. Goldie laughed.

"I won't tell, don't worry."

Ripley grinned and pointed at the target. "How'd you do that?"

Goldie tugged the knife from the target with a grunt. "I'll show you if you want."

"Really?" Ripley tottered closer. "But Dad says I'm too young to play with weapons."

"Well you should never play with weapons." Goldie giggled. "But there's no harm in giving you a demonstration. Here."

She held the knife out. "Hold it by the blade, carefully. That's it. Now take your aim and throw with your wrist."

The knife wobbled a foot or so and spun into the sand. Ripley turned to her mother with a frown.

"I don't think I did it right."

Goldie chuckled. "Well, it takes practice." She handed the knife back to Ripley. "But you'll get it."

Flashback momence!! Ripley's mom is one of my less fleshed out characters (I think she's my newest one actually) and Ripley herself is pretty new as well, so I had fun working these two out! Thanks for the ask 🧡

Finally finished Malakai's character sprite re-draw, the tattoos took a while to hand-draw. For size comparison, I put Izaiah next to him. While around the same height, Malakai bulks a lot more at the gym...whereas Izaiah is more athletic lean.

Lovestruck never gave us much info on Izaiah besides he's Malakai's younger brother, so I took elements from Malakai and Lazareth to design Izaiah for my story. From hints in the story, I think Lazareth is in his 30s?

(I'm taking the hint that SWM MC's mom is in her 40s, and she joked to Lazareth "if you were a decade older" lmao...)

I remember I asked a question to Lovestruck during those QA and Izaiah hangs around his brother a lot, they go surfing together. So, it's possible for a MSC crossover in Ripley's story perhaps? Troupe takes a trip to Los Angeles beaches!
