ꕥ — WELCOME TO MARE COSMIA, THISTLE. 🌗
ꕥ — OOC INFORMATION;
name / alias: rose/sadhbh
age: 27
pronouns: they/he
ooc contact: @murdertart on twitter
other characters in xc: dante, charlotte "charlee" lee, kristoph gavin, shoko ieiri
ꕥ — IC INFORMATION;
name: Thistle
age: 1000+, young adult in elven terms before "immortality"
pronouns: he/him
series: Delicious in Dungeon
canon point: ch. 66
app triggers: dungeon meshi spoilers, minor self harm
personality:
Initially, Thistle comes off as a very scary and formidable foe, as no one knows much about him other than his power. But it is quickly understood that he is rather bratty and immature, acting on his own desires and plans while showing little care/understanding for others. This is directly contradictory to what he says of doing everything for the sake of others, since when they actually express that they dislike something he writes it off and even snaps back. He is prone to stressing and overthinking, a paranoia induced from what happened to the former king and his desire to stop anything like that from occurring again. While stressed, he tends to scratch at his head until it bleeds or to bite at his thumb until the same occurs. He is quick to anger and seems to get angry over the smallest things, likely due to being under a lot of stress consistently.
something your muse struggles with: letting go/moving on
your muse’s greatest strength: tenacity
history / background:
Little is known about Thistle's life before he came to the Golden Country, though he arrived when young and was set to be the court's jester. However when he arrived, he also wound up being the one to help watch over the king's son, Delgal, and wound up growing up beside the other, similar to a brother. Delgal noticed Thistle's aptitude for magic and encouraged him to pursue magic and become the court mage. The two remained close, continuing into adulthood, and eventually when Delgal took the throne after the assassination of his father, he was there right beside him to ensure his safety.
The country itself was nearby one of the old ruins from the time of the elven and dwarven wars, of which Thistle took to investigating and learning about the ancient magic kept there while still serving Delgal and helping with the country itself. While things began to become a bit dire with crops and neighboring areas threatening to invade as well as the illness of his son, Delgal expressed his fear of dying to Thistle in confidence, which ultimately led the other to go further into the ruins—now a burgeoning dungeon—and seek out the power source of it, striking a deal with the Winged Lion to become the master of the dungeon and thus use its powers to make his desires and dreams come true.
This meant for the entire Golden Country being relocated underground with the magic of the dungeon, creating blue skies that mimicked those of the surface and plenty of crops and monsters as a livestock source to the citizens. He also made it so that those within the citizenship of the Golden Country were immortal. They no longer truly aged nor did they find the need to eat or rest properly as time went.
With time, Thistle continued to expand the dungeon and learn more about the magic it used, as well as started to abuse the position of power when others dissented his decisions or expressed desire to go back to the surface. This was all under the misguided idea that he would be able to fix everything, that he was creating a perfect environment for the citizens and for Delgal in particular. Sometime in this process, the Winged Lion—actually a demon that leaked into their world—had eaten some of Thistle's desires, making him forget what he was actually doing for what reasons, and to motivate him to continue desiring more and more to expand the dungeon.
However what the Winged Lion was doing was either caught onto by Thistle, or he simply chose to take the reins over by himself and stop being influenced by it, and he sealed the Winged Lion into two tomes. These are the books he uses to control the dungeon and the monsters within.
Eventually, Delgal managed to sneak out to the surface of the dungeon and leave a task of defeating the Mad Sorcerer and in doing so, the entire kingdom of his would belong to whoever managed the task. Due to the rules of the dungeon no longer applying to the body he borrowed (that of his son's, as at this point everyone in the kingdom had become spirits out of their bodies) quickly aged before turning to dust. Thistle was unaware of this, and believes Delgal to still be out there somewhere within the dungeon, sending many monsters out to search for him so that they may continue to live in peace.
powers / abilities:
Ancient Magic — Thistle has access to ancient, considered forbidden, magic that allows one to do a myriad of things such as resurrection, change others into chimera, etc. This also has allowed him to, within the dungeon, alter his and the Country of Gold's lifespans so that they are all immortal and have no need for food/sleep.
Monster Creation — he is able to create monsters that, while they follow his commands, do still have basic instincts of being monsters. Such as a group of dragons would respond to his instructions, but ultimately they would also follow their instincts of being in competition with one another or acting in other ways that may combat the command.
Basic Magic — when serving as the court magician, Thistle picked up basic magic to do tricks as well as cast spells that can do damage such as explosions.
inherent abilities:
Being a little jester — he does have musical talent thanks to his days as court jester
Magic Knowledge — due to studying magic when younger Thistle has understanding of magic and how to utilize it outside of the dungeon
items / weapons:
Ancient Tomes — Generally the source of Thistle's power outside of basic magic as they contain the Winged Lion sealed inside of them. The books allow him to cast all sorts of magic WITHIN the dungeon as well as let him change its shape and layout. They are ultimately what make him the master of the dungeon.
Poetry Diaries
Baton — like one used by a musical conductor, it acts as a conduit for magic similar to a staff or wand
starting ability:
monster creation
starting item:
Ancient tomes (he only really carries one around, the other is hidden elsewhere)
extra:
i love a miserable clown
discord id: jinglesmiserably.
