It was just the two of them, but Cole couldn’t resist pulling out his new game ‘These Cards Will Get You Drunk’ as Maddy and him waited for the Bells. The window of his top floor apartment was open, so they could hear the distant sounds of partying all around Baberton and the generic New Year’s Eve show on his tv provided background music. Cole flipped over a card that was clearly intended for a larger group, so tossed it aside with the other discarded cards and flipped over a new one. He read it out, “The person after you can ask you any question. You can either answer truthfully or refuse to answer and drink.” Cole smirked, looking over at Maddy. “Ask away.”

Name: Freya Powell Age: 32 Sexuality: Bisexual Gender: Female Portrayed By: Elizabeth Lail Availability: Closed
“This town seems like a nightmare.”
→ Background
Born in Essex, Freya had two younger siblings, Oscar and Madeline. Freya was also a rather sullen and quiet girl. Not like her sister, who was bright as the sun. Her brother was a bit of a drifter, but at least he had a passion for his music, knew what he wanted to do. Freya was just sad. Maybe she was just born that way. She wrote a lot of moody poetry and she always had her headphones on so she could block out the world. Her parents were at a loss as to what to really do about her. Her father would try and get her involved in extracurriculars and her mother would push her to get social. She just wasn’t that type of girl. Freya wore a lot of black, listened to a lot of sad music, and generally didn’t have the best time growing up. The bullies certainly didn’t help matters. Getting out of high school was Freya’s dream come true, but then when it happened, she found she was still stuck. Still sort of drifting along and not sure where she belonged. She sent a few of her poems off to publishers and competitions but got nothing back really and eventually she sort of gave up on the idea altogether. Freya decided that she didn’t want to continue on to college, it just wasn’t for her, so Freya started looking for a job. Her propensity towards shyness made it difficult for her but she eventually landed herself a job in a clothes shop and she drifted along, doing what she needed to, but not enjoying life very much. Then, one day, Freya packed a bag and she disappeared. Ran away from home, at the age of nineteen. She didn’t tell her boss, her parents, her siblings, anyone where she was going. And no one saw her again for many years.
→ Back to Baberton
For the last ten years, Freya has been travelling. At the beginning, Freya simply drifted around, town to town, random couch to random couch. She stayed in some pretty skeezy motels but, as time went on, she got herself the odd job here and there (and even took up pick pocketing and shoplifting to keep herself afloat). Eventually, she was able to support herself a little better and she started to itch for adventure. Freya found herself booking cheap train and plane tickets, going backpacking and travelling, experiencing the world. As the years passed, she became more confident and even a little more emotionally stable. For the last two years, Freya has been living in London, in a little studio apartment where she writes poems and takes nature photography for an online magazine. It’s not much, but it’s something and it pays the bills surprisingly. She had no idea about her parents’ deaths until she came across an article on the internet recently. It was years old and she felt beyond sick and guilty. She had never gone home, she’d never called anyone, sent a letter... they probably thought she was dead and she hadn’t been able to tell her parents she loved them one last time, or that she was sorry. Freya found herself throwing things into a bag and catching a train to Baberton, where she figured out is where her brother and sister are now. She feels guilty for being out of touch for so long and for being selfish. She wants to reconnect but she isn’t sure if they’ll even recognise her, or forgive her.
→ What’s Her Secret?
The reason she ran away from home was simply that she felt like a massive disappointment. Freya was actually suicidal at the time that she ran away and planned on jumping off a bridge a few miles from home. She ended up chickening out at the last minute and going to get trashed at some bar, but she didn’t feel like she could go home, so she never did. She felt too ashamed.
On her travels, Freya met Duncan Hale. It was at some party and she barely remembers any of it, thanks to the little pills he slipped into her drink. All that’s left is flashes of the rest of that night and, honestly, Freya figures it’s better that she doesn’t remember any of the details.
Freya also met Jamie Kirk and had an affair with him while he was also travelling all over like she was. It’s the first she ever heard of Baberton and it was the first time she’d ever kissed a guy. It was like a passionate summer romance, on the beach in Bali. Freya felt like she was falling quickly for him but one morning she woke up and he was gone. She never saw him again. She never heard his name again until she looked into Baberton after finding out about her parents deaths, and she’s horrified that such a gentle, perfect man who shed loved, could be such a monster. It makes her sick to her stomach.

elephant - Official Trailer from Damian Paul Daniel on Vimeo.
elephant is a short film about Nicole, a woman in her late 30s who appears to have it all; a caring husband, two children and a good job. But Nicole is suffering from a crippling depression that, due to the stigma attached to mental illness, she is trying to keep secret. Set over 24 hours, The Elephant shows how a series of otherwise minor events, coupled with Nicole’s dissociation from family and friends, lead her to a state of utter desperation.

Get to know the writer tag
I’ve been tagged by @luckycatsidereus!
1. If you could spend the day with one of your OC’s who would it be and why?
Oh man, it depends on what sort of activity we’d be doing!
If we were just hanging out over a coffee, I’d want to meet my man Resdin, because he is the funniest character of mine that I know. (evidence)
If we were meeting at an art gallery or concert, or just doing something craftsy, I’d go with Anoosha, because she is super creative. (Another character of mine, a makeup artist named Liana, is also quite creative, however she’s very shy and I wouldn’t be able to get past her shell in a day!)
If somebody was teaching me how to survive on a battlefield, or use a sword, I would go with my protagonist Ahrin because she’s quite a patient and understanding teacher... and I love her so much x3
2. Which of your own worlds would you most/least like to live in?
Most: Um, all I’ve written so far are terribly dangerous dystopias and fantasy worlds so none??
Least: All of them; I literally wouldn’t survive *nervous laughing*
3. What is your favourite trope to write?
The chosen one c;
I just love the idea of someone being destined to do something because it raises so many questions: Do they actually have any control over their lives? Would they complete their destiny, even if they actively tried to avoid it? Do all of us have destinies, and therefore no control over our lives?
I also tend to write stories that either require protagonists that have immense political power (so kings, lords, politicians) so that they can literally change the world or that involve powers (usually inherited) that would destroy the world if they were spread amongst the general population, so I’m automatically forced to use the “chosen one” trope. I mean, really though, who can get enough of the last of a line of kings possessing immense power that gained them the throne in the first place and that could spell its end???
4. Do you have a favourite writing snack?
Anything that is salty + crunchy, combined with tea (even though the caffeine makes me go hyper/shaky xD)
5. Which of your OC’s is most like you?
While a lot of my OCs possess certain characteristics like mine, none of them are close to me in personality. For example, while Anoosha is quite creative and enjoys experimenting with visual art, music, and writing (as well as having an interest in hair, makeup, and clothes) like me, she is rebellious and a bit feisty where I am not (and actually bothers to learn about how to do hair, makeup, and dress well lmao).
They’re all people very separate from me; I frequently wonder where they come from and whether I would get along with them at all xD
6. Follow up from 5: Does this make them easier or harder to write for you?
My characters show up when they want to and give me only just enough information about themselves for me to write them. In that way, I find it quite easy to connect with and write them because it feels like they act independently to whatever is going on in my head.
7. Describe yourself using only vine references
I don’t know my vines, sorry :’D
8. Which authors/artists/musicians/creators have inspired you?
Some favourite authors: Laura Gallego Garcia, Patrick Ness, Laini Taylor, Suzanne Collins, Madeline Miller, Garth Nix
Some favourite musicians: Steve Jablonsky, Michael Giacchino, John Powell, John Williams, Lorne Balfe, Marcin Przybylowicz, 2Cellos, The Piano Guys, Lindsey Stirling, Ruelle (*coughs* movie soundtracks)
It’s funny though, because most of my ideas come from the most random places and the inspiration from my favourites mostly has to do with world-building vibes!
9. Favourite song/album?
Blasphemy to make me choose!!!
I go through song/album obsessions every few weeks. Yes, there are some songs that have endured (Rey’s Theme from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Elementalist Lux login screen music by League of Legends, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt soundtrack) but for now my current favourite song is “Journey” from the Destiny 2 soundtrack.
Yeah, my family hates it when I get to put on a song in the car xD
10. What kind of pet do you most want?
Almost three years ago, I was able to get my two babies (cats), Jimi and Hermione. I couldn’t ask for anything more!
11. (Bonus Thing!) What is your favourite line from your current wip?
I don’t have a favourite line, but I love it when I can pack symbolism into a line. For example:
“For now, she would fall asleep in this pool of red. Maybe when she woke up, all the blood she had left would be blue.“
I won’t elaborate on what the symbolism is because of spoilers, but it is based on symbolism used in normal speech, so you could figure it out if you wanted to lmao
These are actually such great questions to get to know people, @luckycatsidereus is it okay if I just ask some other people to answer them instead of coming up with my own (boring) questions??
I don’t know many people so I’m going to tag some people from my dash and hope that’s okay (feel free to not participate in the tag!) @cjjameswriting @supersaiyansadie @scripturient-manipulator @nicholewrites ?? @sweetcatminteareblog I would always tag you but please don’t feel pressure to keep responding LMAO

3, 11, and 12 please?
3.) Three songs you were recently obsessed with:
“Ta ga Tame no Sekai” --- Shigaki AkikoI’ve actually been picturing this as an OP to one of my longer works whenever I listen to it. I put it to Paradigm Shift most often, though it would probably fit the Keitor Big Bang fic I’m writing a bit better. Either way, though, it has that sweeping, epic feel that I love.
“Ichirin no Hana” --- HIGH and MIGHTY COLORThis was actually a re-discovery; I’ve known and loved this song since high school, but somehow I lost it over the years and only recently acquired it again. Still know all the words, too. ♥ (Maybe I’ll sing it in karaoke next month . . .)
“Open Your Eyes” --- Snow PatrolI wouldn’t say I’ve necessarily been obsessed with this one recently, but I refuse to skip it every time it comes up, and I still consider it to be the quintessential happy!Keitor song. So I still love it a lot.
11.) Three favourite songs from movie or TV series soundtrack:
“Toothless Found” (How to Train Your Dragon 2) --- John PowellWords honestly can’t describe how perfect this track is. The chorus in the beginning, and how the music segues into a slow, emotional rendition of the second movie’s leitmotif as Hiccup tries desperately to break through the Bewilderbeast’s control to get his platonic soulmate back . . . the way the leitmotif swells triumphantly (that chorus returning!) as he succeeds, and they both go plummeting toward the ocean, Hiccup throwing himself down after Toothless . . . the percussion beats as Hiccup finally makes it onto Toothless’ back and they prepare their counterattack (along with the way the second movie’s leitmotif is used again, agh) . . . and the way the first movie’s leitmotif plays at the end as they succeed in knocking Drago’s staff away from him . . . on a soundtrack that is honestly incredible with pretty much every track, this one in particular stands out. It makes me feel things every single time I listen. It’s perfect, 100/100.
“Battle Scars (Plugless Ver)” (Blue Exorcist) --- Sawano HiroyukiNot quite as epic, and possibly not even my favorite track on this honestly incredible OST, but definitely the one I’ve listened to most often recently and the one that I never skip. This song gets me pumped and is fun to sing, as a bonus, despite being written for Okumura Rin, it is the perfect song for Keith Kogane. The lyrics hit the mark on practically every beat; it’s incredible.
“Trisha’s Lullaby” (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) --- Senju AkiraAgain, probably not my favorite song on this OST, but certainly one that makes my heart squeeze with emotion every time I hear it. It’s so beautiful, sad, heartwrenching and heartwarming in the same beat . . . and it really speaks to the heart of this show, so I have to give it a special mention here.
12.) Three favourite songs from video games:
I’ll have you know that this is probably the most difficult one, because there are so many that I want to list here (as in, probably upwards of ten from the Legend of Zelda series alone . . .). I’ll only list three, but bear in mind that there are plenty more that I would absolutely list as my favorites.
“My Half is Unknown” (Mystic Messenger) --- Flamming HeartIt should honestly be illegal for a visual novel dating sim made for cell phones to have an OST has phenomenal as Mystic Messenger does, but it’s not and so here we are. Honestly, so many tracks from Mystic Messenger could earn their place on this list, but I have to give it to “My Half is Unknown” for how heartbreakingly beautiful it is, especially with the way it builds up to the crescendo, beginning at 2:45. My heart.
“Don’t Speak Her Name” (Fire Emblem: Awakening) --- Kondo ReiApart from being a beautiful track, what’s notable about “Don’t Speak Her Name” is that it plays throughout the entire battle. It doesn’t break once, and it really adds to how frought with emotional tension that entire situation is---the grief, rage, misery, and pain of everyone involved. It’s a beautiful piece that perfectly encapsulates the moment and I will probably always love it.
“Sealed Vessel” (Hollow Knight) --- Christopher LarkinThis one is a new discovery (obviously, haha), and it’s possibly the newness of it that has me so grabbed by it, but it’s incredible. The way the music kicks in with an epic punch at 0:45, but especially the way it tapers off and switches to an agonized, slow, painful tempo at 2:15 as . . . well . . . it’s major spoilers, but let’s just say that at that part in the battle, I actually didn’t attack because I was so shocked and stricken with sadness at what I saw. The music matches it perfectly; it really is beautifully done.
And three honorable mentions because, honestly, I was very close to slotting these ones in instead:
“Hyrule Castle” (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) --- Kataoka ManakaThe entire Breath of the Wild soundtrack is amazing, and in fact I was originally going to list the “Main Theme” here for how beautiful it is at the start, and then for how it sweeps into a crescendo that takes my breath away every time at 1:12, but “Hyrule Castle” deserves the mention because of how incredible this track is for how many different important themes it incorporates into it. It has the standard Hyrule Castle music featured in several different games (A Link to the Past and Wind Waker to name a couple), “Zelda’s Lullaby,” “Ganon’s Theme,” “Song of the Hero,” and even “Ballad of the Wind Fish.” They’re all put together in one masterful medley, so it definitely deserves its mention here, even if I still adore the main theme as well.
“Overture” (Pokémon) --- Masuda JunichiLook, whatever my issues with Masuda right now, the fact remains that I pretty much burst into tears the second I hear this song start up. (I actually did cry when they started playing this during my live Symphonic Evolutions concert.) Words can’t really describe how many emotions this makes me feel; it’s the song that feels most like coming home, like it’s where I belong. It’s certainly worthy of an honorable mention, even before all the other incredible songs in this series.
“Resurrections” (Celeste) --- Lena RaineThis one amost replaced “Sealed Vessel.” Celeste has a great soundtrack in general, but I particularly love “Resurrections” for how much it incorporates. We have the nice, even, pretty tempo throughout the beginning as Madeline makes her way through, prior to releasing Badeline (Part of Her) from the mirror. Once Badeline has been released, and the true challenge starts, the music grows louder. It’s still not too frantic yet, as Madeline’s mental state hasn’t driven her to that point yet, but you can tell that things are harder now, they’ve gotten more real. (And it’s music to groove to, too; I love it.) And then, of course, there’s that switch at 4:26 to Badeline’s Theme as Madeline confronts her for the first time, and can I just say that I love that melody; it’s haunting, eerie, and emotionally wrought all at the same time. It perfectly encapsulates how Badeline represents Madeline’s insecurities and mental illness. And then, of course, the tempo picks right back up (with some build-up!) at 5:52 as Badeline begins outright attacking Madeline . . . god, this track is just so good! The whole OST is, really, but special mention goes to “Resurrections.” It’s no doubt my favorite.
