BikeFlights.com gave $16,000 to the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), Amy D. Foundation, Trips for Kids and Little Bellas through our Buck Up for Bikes program at Interbike in Reno, Nevada, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Representatives from all four nonprofits accepted $4,000 per organization during a check presentation ceremony at the BikeFlights.com booth.
Tumblr media
“Giving out $16,000 was a great way to kick off Interbike,” said BikeFlights.com President William Alcorn. “We started our Buck Up For Bikes Program to give back to cycling and to get more kids on bikes. We love all the good work being done by Trips for Kids, NICA, the Amy D. Foundation and Little Bellas and are proud to support them.”
Tumblr media
Created in 2016 to benefit the Amy D. Foundation and NICA, BikeFlights.com’s Buck Up for Bikes program has been growing ever since. 2018 year-to-date program contributions are up 60%, and since the program’s inception, BikeFlights.com has raised and given out more than $40,000.

"We are delighted that BikeFlights.com continues to support our efforts to serve youth in every community,” said Trips For Kids Executive Director Robert Ping. “Their generous gifts allow us to develop resources and trainings for our chapters and help us teach children about self-confidence, self-discovery, independence and much more."

Had to introduce sunset photos into my feed to counterpoise the sunrise pics. This extraordinary sky was seen while bringing my son home from @nationalmtb practice. Second pic without his bike for full perspective. #sunrise_sunsets_aroundworld #sunset #clouds #bike #bikelife #bikeart #lakeville

The T-Town Throw Down Recap
The second race of the season was a great success. The League Director Eddie Freyer said we had about 100 more racers than we did last year.
“This year the race definitely was smoother. We had more experienced people on staff and they know exactly what they need to get done,” Freyer said.
Freyer said the volunteers are more experienced than last year because now they know what to expect and have already done the same race once before.
“The volunteers tend to come back and do the same positions week to week, not only do they have last year’s experience but now they've got one race this year under their belt. Things are a lot easier this year,” Freyer said.
The third race of the season is on April 3 at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

“Giving back to organizations that help get more kids, young adults and women on bikes is important to us,” said BikeFlights.com President William Alcorn. “We’re grateful and proud to have this opportunity to support the excellent work being done by National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), Trips for Kids, Little Bellas and the Amy D. Foundation.”
Created in 2016 to benefit NICA and the Amy D. Foundation, BikeFlights.com’s Buck Up for Bikes program has been growing ever since. Since the program’s inception, we’ve raised and given out more than $63,000.
“We are thrilled to be a recipient of the BikeFlights Buck Up for Bikes program!” said Trips for Kids Executive Director Robert Ping. “Our partners at BikeFlights.com continue to support our efforts to get kids outside and active and earn bikes of their own. BikeFlights.com helps us to change lives, two wheels at a time.”
"NICA is incredibly grateful to be included in BikeFlights.com’s Buck up for Bikes program," said Steve Matous, NICA President. "Their support is enabling us not only to get #morekidsonbikes across the country, but also help our student-athletes, coaches and staff easily and safely transport their bikes around the country!"

NICA Hold 8th Annual Conference
BikeFlights.com Buck Up for Bikes partner National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) held their 8th annual national conference last week, and we invited their Communications and Marketing Manager Emily McDonald to tell us what went down in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) recently held its 8th annual National Conference at Sun Valley, Idaho. The NICA National Conference is an annual event that brings league leadership, NICA coach supporters, national staff, race production partners and sponsors together for professional development, strategic planning and discussion of best practices. This year the conference was attended by over 150 participants representing nearly all of NICA’s 27 leagues.
“The best takeaway was the in-person connections and interactions throughout the conference, on the trails riding bikes and around meals,” said NICA’s President, Steve Matous. “Getting to know people from all of our leagues and speaking in person was extremely valuable - the human touch is always the best method of connecting. Secondly, the quality of the presenters, their material and the engagement of our participants was incredible. We had a mix of detailed operational topics and more global and philosophical topics of concern, so everyone came away from the conference enriched and positively challenged.”
This year’s conference focused on leadership, character development and diversity, equity and inclusion, with special presentations by Rebecca Rusch, World Champion, Adventure Athlete, Author and Activist; Lou Bergholz, a Character Development Partner from Edgework Consulting; and Kat Smithhammer and Allison Bergh of Leadership at Play, and Risha Grant of Risha Grant, LLC. Additionally, there were two special presentations on NICA’s impact from Zack Rundell, a NICA student-athlete from the Pennsylvania League and the Hurst Family of the Idaho League.
“The 2019 National Conference was an invaluable experience. It is not often you have the opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals from across the country who are all working towards a common goal - to get more kids on bikes!” said Stephanie Chall, Director of Strategic Growth for the Maryland League. “The NICA team built-in opportunities for participants at all levels -- from inspirational coaching sessions to seminars on recognizing unconscious bias to working with people with disabilities to building community by riding with colleagues, there were important lessons to learn, and connections to be made, around every corner. I walked away with fresh ideas to build existing programs and inspiration to leverage new programs NICA has built for the coming year.”
For more information on the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, please visit www.nationalmtb.org or follow @nationalmtb on social media.
And don’t forget to add a buck (or four!) to your next BikeFlights.com order to contribute to NICA’s mission to put #morekidsonbikes.
