i have a genuine question its not really about mhj per see but since this whole drama i've been seeing also newjs being brought up in the conversation and i genuinely wonder what do they bring to the table? to me their success is fully dependant on the timing of putting out that y2k concept (not an original concept ofc but fresh in the kpop sphere at that time) and having the platform that is hybe and being given the means to get successful and riding on that whole the new bts agenda. Because aside from things that are simply tailored by others and manufactured for them there is nothing else to me, even as performers/presence they give nothing as artists either like its all very interchangeable you could get any other 5 pretty girls do the same and you'll get the same result. Not to be that person but this is also the reason why i can get into many other kpop groups beside bts because bts have a certain individuality and smth real as a group. Maybe its also because njs are still young but its also why i always find myself finding groups with grown up women in kpop more interesting so i'm not the target audience idk

Artistry wise? Nothing tbh. They’re more performers to me than anything and that’s pretty much the story with most kpop groups. I mean they can sing and have great stage presence, but like you said that doesn’t really differentiate them from the other groups out there that have those same attributes.

Like take Jimin for example. He’s known for his specialized dancing. The specific way he moves nobody can replicate that, it’s unique to him, but with njws yea you could put another set of 5 young pretty girls on stage with their same concept and you wouldn’t feel an absence. All that being said though, I don’t think they need to be bonafide artists. Cause at a certain point it comes off a bit pretentious. Everybody doesn’t need to have deeper meaning in their music, not everybody has to be a creative of their own merit. I think it’s okay to have groups that are just surface level vibes or simply cute.

I relate about not being able to get into other acts. For me it’s mainly cause the music isn’t good. Outside of that, I can appreciate any good song. I still tend gravitate towards people who naturally are artistic when it comes to their music though cause I appreciate good storytelling and extra thought in any type of work. I also get what you mean about older female k artists too. The Mamamoo girls come to mind especially Hwasa. There’s still older k idols who make cute music too though, like Twice. And imo njws music doesn’t target a specific age group, more like people who like a certain aesthetic, but I can definitely see why younger people would flock to them. Cute doesn’t always necessarily equate to younger. It’s really all just preference.
