call it noco in 7 hours 🥁 Yeah, the title is kinda a relic at this point. The first chapter of this fic was conceptualized as a one-off idea, just a little drabble where I laid out everything I liked about noco and the potential I saw in it. Like an argument (partially motivated by the anti-noco posts I was seeing at the time). And then I got entranced by my own argument, and was like no... I *need* to fulfill the potential! Thus, it became a multi-chapter monster of a fic. Thank god for noco antis, amirite? (Tho, the 7 minutes in heaven premise was also inspired by the lesbian movie Crush, and the lesbian show First Kill. Having never played the game before, I had a lot of questions - and just like any fandom obssessed person, I decided to test it out on my OTP. So maybe thanks should go to WLW, aka the true pioneers.)

Okay so I actually just read this really amazing and emotional noco fanfiction so I thought I'd share to give you a better picture of where we're coming from. it's a high school au and essentially it's friends to lovers and one-sided pining (and then mutual pining) if you're looking for tropes.

(Spoilers)

Noah and Cody sit near each other in math class and Noah has a crush on Cody, but they're only friends. Emma is in it and she likes Noah, and they have a really complex on and off again relationship. imo the characterization is perfect, Emma liking Noah and him having conflicted feelings because he also likes Cody is so *chef's kiss*. There's also some elements of alenoah, it's implied that Alejandro has a thing for Noah and they have a cute little fake dating plot and end it as friends. The main antagonist is not even a woman getting in the way of their relationship like it is with other mlm pairings, it's actually their math teacher who's a religious conservative. I think he's honest commentary on the rancid state of blind hatred towards gay people. Anyway, in the end, the math teacher kidnaps Noah and Cody to take them to Bible camp, but he loses control of his car and drives into a helicopter, exploding and killing everyone instantly. It's such a heartbreaking subversion of the bury your gays trope, and the fact that the math teacher died too is obviously symbolic of how hatred is harmful for everyone. It's a really beautiful fic and you can read it on @total-noco-takes. Couldn't recommend it enough.

(Full video at the link in my profile). It's crazy - when we first realized we were going to be moving to Northern Colorado from Denver, I was not thrilled. I went to junior high and high school in Fort Collins - and those years were great - but I felt I had somehow grown out of FoCo and wasn't sure I'd really fit in up here anymore, especially with how much I've grown and changed since leaving in my early 20's Yet somehow, I have managed to find the most crazy, creative, proactive, fun people I've ever met in my entire life up here. People who do crazy shit, put on shows, dream big, truly think and believe outside the box. It's like there's a creative magnet in NoCo that brings all of you in!! So happy we made the change. And, in a way, it's ironic. I left NoCo a bible-thumping, cautious, modest, conservative, religiously-devoted zealot and returned a bikini-clad, risk-taking, liberal, agnostic pole dancer. Life is awesome, isn't it??? All of this is to introduce this awesome video Casandre Elyse Medel put together of my last performance with Vertical Fusion - aka, the happiest place on earth.
