Deciphering the “Lobpk clnv spqs, Srlqghawhu. Lry thr’k pzenbw etzv hcurrrb xpjt hw jdxza mk ucz lry.” Ask

Under the cut is going to be a quick step by step guide on deciphering that post (ask and answer).

Quick Note: This is the Version that is suppose to be present. (A more complicated answer was accidentally posted initially until I realized I copy/pasted the wrong one, and a brief explanation on that is at the bottom.)

Hint: The ask is important in deciphering the answer.

1 ) You should decrypt the ask using a typical 3-back Caesar shift.

will turn into.

Ilymh ziks pmnp, Poindexter. Iov qeo’h mwbkyt bqws ezroooy umgq et gauwx jh rzw iov.

Hint: Poindexter is an important word! It will be used in some form for a Vigenere cipher.

2) Use “Poindexter” as the key to decrypt the ask. However, use the original ask, not the ask after it went through the caesar cipher.

Watch your back, Fohtndjhtm. You won’t always have someone else to watch it for you.

Hint: That “Poindexter” word is still important to solving the answer message! Consider a plausible twist to it.

3) Finally, to decode the answer use the encrypted “Srlqghawhu” which is the original word from the ask before the caesar shift changes it to “Poindexter.”

And there’s the code!

For those curious about the INITIALLY posted cipher. The pass code was “Fohtndjhtm“ (which is “Poindexter” AFTER the ask message went through the Vigenere cipher of well “Poindexter”).

I worried that was a tad too complicated to do at this stage though.

As well the sentences about Stan were in the tags, but I figured there’d be a lot of confusion with trying to decode that because of the difficulty with copy/pasting tags. Plus, people could easily think it was the start of a different code.

I hope this was coherent enough to follow along! I tried to format text so it wouldn’t be as much of a huge wall of text.
