Midsummer Texts

Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh

Characters: Yugi Muto & Yami Yugi

Prompt: Yugi has a crush but has no idea how to talk to her. Yami offers to chat with Yugi’s crush over text. Confusion and chaos ensues as feelings go wayward.

A/N: I suck at writing romance, but this blog is a good excuse to start practising. I’m not quite decided whether this will end up to be a Yami x reader or a Yugi x reader. Maybe I will do both and make it a choose-your-own-adventure?

Once more an AU where Yugi and Yami are twins.

**Duel Online is something I came up with and totally did not name after Duel Links. Since I don’t play DL and have no idea how it works I’m going to create my own game so that I can mess around as I like without judgement. ( ‾́ ◡ ‾́ )

Over the course of a weekend a lot had changed. It started in the morning, as you got up and resolved to change your own mindset. A look in the mirror, a look of determination shared between you and your reflection.

“No backing out now.”

Your new motto lingered on within your mind as you made your way to school, where you would encounter the other change that had happened over the weekend.

“Be resilient,” Yugi said to himself as he fixed his hair, a look of resolution shared with his image reflected at the other side. Had he known about your confession to his brother Yugi would have probably chosen something else to say.

From Yami’s side there was only dread and conflict. As much as he treasured you as a friend and loved his brother there was no way in which he could satisfy the both of you, realising how both your hopes and wants were conflicting.

“Fingers crossed,” was all he sighed as he watched his brother walk down the path he dreaded the most.

“Morning [Name],” Yugi was quick to greet you, in fact, he was the first to come for you, splitting from the group to meet you at the door. “How are you feeling?” the male continued, his eyes ever so kind and genuine as he asked the rather absurd question.

Taking a moment to respond your eyes travelled over the rest of the group, meeting that of a particular older twin who was busy avoiding yours. Frowning, you returned your gaze to the other, your expression just a little confused as you couldn’t quite place the concern that was on Yugi’s face.

“Fine, I think?” you finally settled upon, wondering what this was all about. Fearing that you were saying too much you kept it vague, instead forcing a smile from your lips as you joined the rest of the group, relieved to see that the rest of the group seemed normal enough.

“I was thinking, since you left early last weekend, that I could maybe help you again with our free period?” Yugi’s voice piped up, grabbing hold of your attention once more.

You didn’t dare to express it, but there was something different about the male. Almost as if he had switched personality entirely, though you always knew that there was strength hidden within the otherwise shyer younger Mutou.

“Sure?” you let out, not sounding as confident as your answer seemed, neither did you sound as set on the idea as the beaming Yugi, whose smile couldn’t grow any wider anymore as he nodded firmly.

“It’s a date then!” he exclaimed, and before you could get anything between it the male ran off, leaving you with the rest of the gang in the corridor.

“What was that about?” Tristan mused out loud, seemingly as flabbergasted as the rest was about the sudden boldness of their friend.

“Does this mean we won’t be allowed to interfere?” Joey questioned. For once you didn’t giggle over the cluelessness of the blond, finding that you were as much scrapping for an answer as the rest of the group was.

Everyone but Yami, who kept to himself, his expression a frown once more as he gritted his teeth.

“I’m sure he doesn’t mean to imply that you aren’t welcome,” you recovered, patting Joey on the back. “I wouldn’t mind you joining if you really want to?”

You were being unfair towards Yugi, you knew that, but knowing what his feelings were while also aware of your own feelings. It was bound to be awkward and that made you feel even more undeserving of his warm attention.

“I need to catch up on homework,” Yami cut in, quickly turning down your invitation. The way his expression darkened didn’t escape you, your guilt growing to an overwhelming point. It was unfair to the older Mutou as well, knowing your feelings, knowing his brother’s, and having to stand in the middle of it.

An awkward silence, an exchange of looks, and a scrape of the throat. Nervously you were waiting for the silence to pass, for the verdict to come, for everyone to speak up, maybe even admonish you for your own insensitivity. “It’s a date,” he had said, loud and clear.

“Ah, I forgot about English,” Joey sighed to himself, for once not the last one to catch onto the situation, an arm bumping against Tristan who quickly joined in on the statement.

“I will need to borrow your maths homework, Anzu,” the brunet spoke, earning a cringe from you as you slowly watched the numbers dwindle down.

Hearing a sigh and a rustle Anzu pulled out her notebook, pushing it into the direction of Tristan with a roll of her eyes.

“I’m joining [Name] and Yugi, but you owe me.”

Winking the female threw you a reassuring smile, arm bumping against you in a reassuring way, as if silently telling you that she wasn’t going to leave you alone despite what the rest of the male population had decided.

A shot of warmth spread across your chest, a smile carefully turning on your face as you wondered how awkward it would be if you got down on your knees now to thank the angel that had descended upon you.

“I knew there was something going on between the three of you.”

During the intermission of your class you quickly explained everything that had gone down over the weekend to Tea who could only let go of a sigh, eyes turning up to the roof as she was trying to progress everything that you had just told her. “I was already wondering what had gotten the two of you so down over picking up a mere pizza,” the female continued to muse, her fingers tapping against her chin as she finally pieced together the puzzle.

Another sigh. Another confirmation over the mess you found yourself in.

“Yeah, I don’t think Yami said anything to Yugi about me confessing, but.”

Sighing, you let your head sink into your arms, cradling yourself between your elbows and hands as you just wanted this day to be over. “I feel like a jerk,” you mumbled.

“What’s wrong?”

Hearing Yugi’s voice pop up nearly made you fall out of your seat, your hands reaching for the sides of your desk as you tried to maintain your balance. “Yugi!” you gasped, more so to yourself than to the male who had surprised you.

“Hiya Yugi, what brings you here?” Tea greeted, seemingly better at recovering from the surprise than you were.

Shrugging the male threw a shy smile, still not entirely used to his new bold strategy, but pushing through nonetheless. “Just checking up if [Name] is still up for the session after the break,” he spoke, a light blush dusting his cheeks as he remembered his earlier exclamation.

Where the morning couldn’t be over soon enough for you, the first period had seemed so far away from Yugi.

“Though, what is this I hear about you feeling like a jerk?” Yugi quickly recovered, eyes suddenly glazing over in determination as an unsual frown appeared on his face. Everything within him was set ready to finely explain how exactly you could never be a jerk. Not to him, at least.

A speech you did not need to hear right now.

“No, nothing, I was just recalling some silly incident when I exited the elevators today,” you quickly brushed off before throwing a warning look into Tea’s direction. Not that the female needed one, her eyes holding the same sheen of determination as Yugi did.

“Mind if I join in?” Tea was quick to interfere instead, her smile warm as ever. “[Name] was saying earlier in the corridors that we’re all welcome to join if you’re alright with it.”

The way your friend had worded herself hurt a little, though you supposed she was only speaking the truth when she posed the question.

“Haha, yeah, I did,” you awkwardly pitched in, nodding along with each word as you turned over to Yugi. “Though the rest said that they had something else to do, so I guess it will only be the three of us,” you explained, hoping to negate the damage at least a little.

Yugi’s expression was unreadable at that, his eyes following the exchange before settling with a smile to cloud his own feelings on the matter.

“The more the merrier, not?” he chirped, undeterred as ever.

You could only hope to be half as optimistic as Yugi was.

This is going to be a long post, and I apologise for that. However I do not apologise for putting my boundaries as clear as possible, and will not apologise for doing so. All of the rules below exist for a reason, and I have them for my own comfort.

It is okay if you don’t agree with them BUT IT’S NOT OKAY TO IGNORE THEM. If you think you cannot follow the posted rules, then do not follow this blog. Thank you !!

General

These are the basics, a re-hash of rules that almost everyone has but that I like to cover anyway just in case!

Read ALL important pages: rules, disclaimer, muse list & info for the muse(s) you want to interact with

Use proper punctuation and spellings to the best of your abilities

Mark clearly whether an ask is IC or OOC

No godmodding

No maiming, killing, etc. of my muses without my permission

No choosing of thoughts or big actions of my muses without my permission

Hate, anon or otherwise, will be reported and deleted. Users will be blocked.

There may be an occasional mention that I do this if there’s some kind of repeat, but I will not place the content itself on the dash.

I do both regular capitalization and zero capitalization for threads, depending on partner and length of the thread

memes and asks will be done in whichever I’m feeling

I do small text ONCE for aesthetic, but will leave text regular size if asked

Headlines will be done in subtext size, again mostly for aesthetic

Parentheses and brackets will be BOLDED and italicized, on the whole

I will @ the url of the person who sent the ask or is part of the thread

thread partner urls may also have their muse’s name listed after a slash for further clarity

I occasionally use icons, but mostly for asks, dash commentary, or silly things

While not explicitly reblog karma, I am not a meme source and will talk to you if you always take memes from me but never send anything in or talk to me. Sometimes a meme doesn’t work and that’s fine, but there’s no excuse to never interact with me.

I often have a mix of platonic, general, and nsfw/shippy memes at my disposal, but feel free to improv something from the gist or edit sentences to suit our muses better!! Creative fun is why we’re here <3

OCS & Sideblogs & MuMus & Second-Gens

Information must be easy to navigate and read, same as for canons/single muse blogs!

Sideblogs, please list somewhere OBVIOUS what the main blog is called so I know what to look out for.

Mumus, I love you and your dedication, but I am most selective with you. Yes, even as a mumu myself.

The more fandoms covered and more muses included, the less likely I am to hop on board mostly because I prefer a clean dash.

If we’re close friends ooc I’ll likely be far more lenient

OCs with a main spn-canon faceclaim will not be accepted unless the muse has been around longer than the canon being cast or if they look/act markedly different than the canon ( Karen Gillan with all her hair vs as Nebula, for example ).

Unless plotted otherwise, they will not know my muses, but they can know of my muses

Second-Gens ( kids of the original set(s) of main canons ) make me uncomfortable for a number of reasons, and so will be interacted with on a case-by-case basis.

Canons & FCs

Again, OCs with mcu-canon faceclaims will not be interacted with unless they meet at least one of the two criteria listed above.

However, if I pick a FC for someone related to this blog that isn’t canon, it’ll likely be shrugged off as uncanny lookalike, or we can otherwise plot around it.

Animated FCs are welcome, but I’ll admit that specifically anime blogs are unlikely to be interacted with. Sorry

If a canon has an alternate faceclaim: cool! Just have it listed somewhere obvious, please

FCs I will not interact with: Mark Sheppard, Selena Gomez, Mads Mikkelsen, Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Sara Bareilles, Andrew Scott, Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Dormer. The list may be periodically updated; yes, it is okay to ask me about specific names and why these ones are listed.

Shipping

There will be a good deal of F/F, F/M, and M/M on this blog both in visual and text.

May ( read: probably will ) include three+somes.

Implication and mention to graphically clear are likely, and will be tagged.

By default, ALL my muses are single, with the noted exceptions of Frigga ( until Odin chooses to pass ) Dugan and Peggy if it’s circa 1952-after, and Sam who is widowed and single post-2012, unless plotted otherwise.

Please don’t assume there will be a ship between your muse and mine without plotting first, positively or negatively !!

Specific to Peggys: don’t be alarmed by my above warning, Dugan/Peg is my muses only and not something I expect to be followed. I will also not expect a ship with Steve.

specific to Steves: I will not expect a ship with Peggy, Bucky, or Sharon

However, Bucky loves Steve, bordering on obsessively. Whether it’s platonic, romantic, or completely one-sided pining is up to plotting and muse chemistry.

if we are writing stucky, Bucky is the one who will be in it first.

James is incredibly anxious about dealing with Steve for many reasons, and more anxious about the possibility of infringing on Bucky’s territory.

It is one of few ships that will require Bucky’s active participation if you want James involved, because James will refuse Steve otherwise.

if we are writing steggy, it will not be eg-canon compliant

Specific to Peppers: Tony cares ( depending on point in time, deeply ) for her, but I will not expect a ship and it must be plotted out.

They could be exes, almosts, currently dating, platonically attached, whatever we would like! But it must be plotted.

specifically for Janes: I do not automatically lead with fosterson! My default is somewhere between slow burn infatuation or mutual, friendly separation. Thor adores her in any type of relationship though, and supports her endeavors and enthusiasms

For Bucky and James, dating one of them does not mean you have to be dating the other.

It would be marginally easier depending on time and verse tho

Specifically for Natashas: I include the generality of James being at the Red Room, but we must plot about including the affair or not. It is not my default canon.

if we are defaulting to winterwidow, James is the one most familiar with her, not Bucky. James was the fronting personality when they originally met, and Bucky’s recollection of events will be hazy if present at all.

If you want to ship Nat with Bucky, it must be plotted and must account for the prior/continuing relationship with James

For Sharon, she has no romantic interest in men ( yes including Steve ).

if she ends up with a comics-inclined verse this may change but will still require heavy plotting.

I will not be ship-exclusive with any blogs

I will have mains but it’s on unofficial terms

For all my writing partners: I will happily plot ships, and details! But I won’t have an assumed prior romantic/sexual history between our muses.

PERSONALITY TRAITS:

( + ) : Charismatic - Daisy has a certain charm with which she deals with people. They tend to be drawn towards her warm, neutral attitude in which she never favors one person over another (unless of course you’re talking to one of her best friends, that is). She is overall trying to be a much nicer, open and welcoming person and she has no problem using that natural charisma to do so.

( + ) : Creative - Whether it’s a masterpiece painting worthy of sitting next to a Monet or an expertly spun excuse as to why she was strolling the grounds late at night (typically it was because she was trying to find her reflection in the stars), Daisy is a very creative person. Ideas and imagination flow past her lips like liquid gold, which can sometimes lead to her being found with her head in the clouds.

( + ) : Organized - While her creative streaks can sometimes leave her having gone days without sleep in favor of restless nights writing poems or doodling, she never fails to have exactly 3 quills lined up an inch apart on her desk. Her extensive shoe collection is arranged by color, size of heel and weather in which it can be worn and her outfits are lined up every Saturday evening for the upcoming week.

( - ) : Perfectionist - Control, control, control. It’s Daisy’s mantra, every single day she keeps hold of every moving piece in her life - at least as much as she can. It’s lead to some toxic coping mechanisms and is not a trait that she’s found herself able to shake.

( - ) : Fearful - Perhaps the reason she has yet to pick a side in this impending disaster of a war is because she hasn’t yet decided which side would win. Even more likely is that she hasn’t taken the time to think about it because it absolutely terrifies her. The reality of what is going on around her and in her world in particular has given her far more to work through than she can handle, and fear is not an emotion that Daisy does very well with.

BIOGRAPHY: *Trigger warnings for Eating Disorders & Animal Death*

Expectations.

Expectations. The word weighed upon Daisy Hookum’s shoulders for as long as she could remember. Born to a family who loved their supremacy and their blood status and the balls they hosted at their homes. It was all she thought she could care about. All she was ever allowed to care about.

Her first memory was running after a butterfly in her family’s garden. She was young, a short pink dress flowing around her as she ran barefoot through the grass. Right as she reached the butterfly, when it was mere inches away from landing on her finger - it burst into flames. She turned to see her father with his wand outstretched. “Don’t be silly Daisy, little girls don’t run like heathens.” So she no longer ran through the grass like a heathen.

The first breaking point came when she began destroying herself in order to have control over her own life. She wasn’t able to make her own decisions and was, in fact, discouraged from doing so. So she stood up after dinner one evening and excused herself to the bathroom where she shoved her finger down her throat until her stomach was empty. Ironically, she felt full for once. Full of power and control and an ability to make her own choice. It became a compulsion. She was only thirteen.

The second breaking point came when she was 14 and her dog died. Her beloved poodle had been with her since she was two years old. She learned of his death via a cold and emotionless letter from her parents. The only person who comforted her while she sobbed in the hallway was a Muggleborn. None of her Pureblood “friends” so much as blinked an eye at the mess she was on the cold concrete floor. She wasn’t supposed to respect Muggleborns, but how could she possibly keep hating them when the only person who bothered to care about her grief was a complete stranger whose affection she’d done nothing to earn?

The third breaking point was when she overheard her father absolutely shredding the family of the Muggleborn who comforted her. She burst through the door and went on a tirade against her father. When she finished he did nothing but laugh and walk her out, belittling the opinions which she’d barely been brave enough to share.

Daisy was tired of hating Muggleborns. She was tired of having thoughts that she had to swallow and tired of eating food she had to get rid of in order to feel some semblance of normalcy. So in her Sixth Year at Hogwarts, Daisy Hookum smiled at Muggleborns, Half Bloods, people of all walks of life. At times she returns to her old ways, sneering at the little Hufflepuff who tripped in front of her, shoving her wand down her throat to feel something other than a desperate need to find herself after all of this change.

Change.

A new word on her shoulders, but it weighed much less.
